    A much larger entry again met a flying trade and still more hoggs could have been sold to an advantage as buyers orders were left

    unfilled. Overall average on the day was 206p/kg, numerous pens

    over 215p/kg and to a top of 222p/kg from two vendors Messrs

    C & A Smallacombe & Son, Butterlands, Bow 44 kilos £97.50 and

    Julian Bowen 44 kilos £97.50. Geoffrey and Simon Grigg, Weach

    Barton, Bideford had a smart run of Charollais x which topped at

    218p/kg for 45 kilos £98. Rex Blewett of Moor Farm had two pens

    of 44 kilos at 217p/kg £95.50. 17 Pens realised £100 and over to

    a top of £107 from Dean Summersby, Little Acres followed by Colin Davey, Stoke Barton, Hartland with two

    pens 50 kilos realised £106.20.

    388 DRAFT EWES

    A good entry met a strong trade throughout with again 80% of the entry being plain and half meat ewes on

    offer which reflected on the overall average. The few heavy ewes sold to a top of £95 from three vendors.

    54 STORE HOGGS

    A small entry again saw all much sought after with the

    top being £78.50 from Messrs A & D King, East Pyn

    Farm, Iddesleigh.

    COUPLES – 23 EWES & 31 LAMBS

    A stronger trade for all on offer, doubles realised a top

    of £168 for two pens sold by Daniel Norman, Dolton

    who also topped the singles at £150.

  • What a day! A nice entry of baby calves saw a superb trade from start to finish

    with plenty of buyers ready to spend. Top

    call of the day was £470 for a 6 week old

    British Blue in from DJ Bray of

    Parracombe on the edge of Exmoor, with

    other smart British Blue bulls from the

    same farm at £455 and £395.

    John Elliott & Family of Henscott near Bradford

    had major success topping at £415 for the best of

    his team of 2 & 3 month old British Blue bulls

    seeing others reach £390, £360 and £350 from the

    same good home. Messrs LJ Goaman & Son of

    Hartland saw their team of young 25

    day old plus British Blue bulls to

    £375 whilst other vendors reached

    £348 and £335.

    Both Limousin and Charolais bull

    calves were in short supply and as a

    result met a flying trade with John

    Elliott topping the Limousins at £390

    and Messrs WS Jose & Son of North

    Tamerton topping at £370 for the

    best of the Charolais. A really good

    entry of Aberdeen Angus bulls saw a

    high number of buyers very keen to purchase particularly if they have named sires, the top four prices came in

    from Messrs W & N Furse of Sutcombe reaching £328 with others at £312, £285 and £280. A lovely run of

    very young 20 day old Aberdeen Angus calves from RJ Aston of Pyworthy topped at £258 and Messrs George

    of Buckland Brewer at £245.

    A pair of Fleckvieh bulls from Wrangworthy Dairy sold to a marvellous £250 each whilst a strong entry of

    Holstein bulls hit the best trade seen for a long long time with black and whites between £75 - £130 with five

    buyers competing well.

    Several heifers forward topped at £285 for a Charolais from Messrs WS Jose & Son with a nice entry of British

    Blue heifers seeing a top call of £275 in from Messrs Poole of East Wonford with Becky Mills of Petersmarland

    close up at £270. Messrs D & W Oke of Bradford also at £270. Best Aberdeen Angus heifers hit £200 twice

    for Messrs W& N Furse of Sutcombe with others at £195 and £190 from the same farm.

  • A good entry of stores this week saw a huge crowd of

    buyers in attendance with a consignment of 23 well bred single suckled 8 – 10 month old Limousin steers from Mr

    James Melville, Bradworthy saw a flying trade with the best

    to £1010 averaging £910. Younger Dairy x Continentals

    again sold well 13 month old British Blues from Canal Farm

    Partnership to £790 and Limousins of the same age also

    £790. Young 9 month old British Blue steers from Messrs

    JA & RS Mills, Petersmarland saw some very strong bidding topping at £660 and more could have sold well on

    the trade.

    Very few forward cattle saw a consignment of well farmed cattle from Mr John McInerin, Broadwood with a

    24 month old non farm assured British Blue reaching £1255 other Limousins to £1160 and British Blues to

    £1100 with heifers from the same farm reaching £1010 for a Limousin.

    Younger 18 – 20 month old Continentals in short supply, Limousin from Messrs J & M Britton, Luffincott saw

    steers to £970 and heifers to £900. British Blues 14 – 18 months old from Messrs GP & JA Kirk, Higher

    Larkworthy sold to £930, a good trade!! Natives again in demand especially young Aberdeen Angus steers, an

    annual consignment from Mrs J Starr, Bradworthy saw 11 month old steers reach £790 with others at £750.

    A shorter entry of Friesians topped at £840 for three British Friesian types from Messrs WH Tripconey &

    Sons, Helston with others from Messrs DF & ER James, Higher Stowford also fetching £840.

  • A consignment of quality in calf pedigree Devon cows

    from Mr C Wilkey, Venton, Westward Ho saw a top

    of £1165 for a Devon cow due April with others to

    £1081 and £1029.

    A flyer !!!! Top price of £860 for a Friesian from Messrs J & M Britton, Luffincott. Younger Holstein cows from

    Messrs TJ Boughton & Son, Bradworthy to £750, Norwegian Red x cows from the same farm to £800. Lean

    older cows £335 to £500 and more required.

    A short entry with the top being 129p/kg for an Aberdeen Angus cow from Messrs SI & A Barkwill of Milton
