Traditional Moroccan Clothing
Traditional clothing differs from town to town in Morocco depending on which civilisation influenced that area for example the French or Spanish.
The Moroccans believe that the personal style and the clothes they wear give an insight into their life. Moroccans make it a point to always dress well, as clothes show whether they are rich or poor.
Morocco’s traditional outfit is called djellaba.
A mans djellaba is a loose, full-sleeved, flowing gown with a head cover.
The women’s djellaba is made from bright colours and its patterns are made from beads and embroidery.
Moroccan women try to buy at least one each year. It will be worn for all social and religious occasions, all festivals and especially during marriage ceremonies.
Traditional Moroccan Clothing
Footwear consists of flat leather slippers
called baboosh and are generally
yellow in colour
This Moroccan garment is called a gandora. The gandora doesn’t have a hood and doesn’t have long sleeves like a Moroccan djellaba. For a convenient use, this garment has one slit on one side and one pocket on the other
side at the waist level. It should be worn 4" above the ankle. You can wear it on its own or with a shirt and baboosh
During special events men generally wear a cap,
which is known as a tarbouche
Kaftan’s have been in fashion for centuries. They are hand made using luxurious materials like satins, silk, metallic threads or velvet. You can add belts, sashes and other accessories. The Kaftans can be easily customized to fit any personal style. There are many ways to use them: the Kaftan can be worn on the street on the beach or as evening wear.
Tahruyt or head covering shows the most common motif found on embroidered head coverings, a small triangle that is called
takhbasht, which means "claws." This looks like the marks animal claws make on the ground. The triangle motif is always there.

False – during the day when the Earth is facing the Sun, we cannot see the stars because of how bright the Sun is.
Day and Night
The Earth is tilted and spins on an invisible line called an axis.
Only half of planet Earth faces the Sun at any one time. The side facing the Sun is in daytime.
The side facing away from the Sun is in darkness and so it is night time.
It takes 24 hours for the Earth to rotate once on its axis.
If it is night time in New Zealand, what will it be in England?
Answer: It will be daytime as England is on the opposite side of the world to New Zealand and will be facing the Sun.
The PlanetsIn our Solar System, there are 8 planets.
Can you remember the order of the planets?
Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune
A mnemonic is a way of remembering something. We can make a sentence out of the first letter of each word in a sequence to help us remember it.
For example, we can remember how to spell ‘because’ by remembering the mnemonic: Big Elephants Can Always Understand Small Elephants.
TASK: Create your own mnemonic to help you remember the order of the planets.

Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat and sauté the onion, celery, and carrots until the onion turns translucent and begin to brown, about 5 to 10 minutes.
Add the turmeric, cumin, harissa or chilli flakes, 1 teaspoon of salt, 1 cup each of the parsley and coriander, tomatoes, and the stock or water and bring to a boil. If using the soaked chickpeas, drain them and add to the pot. Simmer uncovered for 25 minutes, then add the lentils, another teaspoon of salt and a teaspoon of pepper and continue simmering until the chickpeas and lentils are cooked, about 20 minutes more. If using canned chickpeas omit the first 25 minutes of simmering and add with the lentils.
Whisk the flour, egg, and lemon juice into 2 cups (470 ml) of water. Stir into the soup. Simmer the soup about 5 minutes more and serve, sprinkled with the remaining coriander and parsley. And don’t forget to have some extra harissa in a plate on the side!
