It was amazing to see over 120 students celebrating their own and others’ cultures. It was quite a term with students and staff putting a huge amount of time into practising during their break times. A big thank you to William Uele who led the festival. His enthusiasm and drive was amazing. A big part of term 4 is the transition process with half of our school leaving and half of the school arriving in 2020. This can also prove a very stressful time for students. Please make sure that you discuss the process with your child and talk through what they are worried about. If you feel you need extra support please contact our Deputy Principal Mary Pretorius. Transition to Western Springs College We are meeting with Western Springs College tomorrow to discuss the transition of our Year 8's for 2020. In these meetings we discuss student's learning, behaviour and strengths. WSC will be holding a parent information evening for incoming Year 9's on Wednesday 4th December. We will be taking some small group visits to WSC for students who require additional support in their transition to high school. Please contact the DP, Mary Pretorius on [email protected] if your child requires extra support. Enrolment If you are a parent or caregiver of a Year 6 who is intending to enrol in Pasadena next year, we are in the midst of our transition meetings with local primary schools and are beginning to plan classes for 2020. We recommend that you enrol as soon as possible to ensure the best fit for your child. Hats It is compulsory for all students to wear a school hat at break times. If they do not wear a hat they will need to stay in the shade. Hats are available for purchase for $18 at the office. Student Reports Teachers are currently busy writing the Term 4 School Reports. For teachers, this is a time to reflect on each student’s achievement for the year as well as identifying next steps. Teachers will be giving students an update against the end of year expected curriculum level in Reading, Writing and Mathematics, as well as comments for our Specialist subjects covered in Terms 2 and 3. Students have also updated their learning goals, setting future goals that they would like to achieve whether it is for College or Year 8 at Pasadena.

Eco Store Thanks for the great support for our eco store bottle return programme. Our bin is being emptied this week and it is overflowing. Keep them coming.

The Great Pasadena Cupcake Bake Off Last week, as part of this term's Unit of Inquiry "How We Express Ourselves" we had a decorative cupcake competition. The standard was very high and many students brought in entries. Each class decided their entry and

then a carefully selected panel of judges inspected and tasted the delicious dishes. The rest of the cupcakes went towards a sugary morning tea for their class! After much discussion the winning cupcake came from Room 9; but overall a very successful competition that the judges have said they are happy to do again!

Sports News Ski Team In week 6 of Term 3, the Pasadena ski race team went to Mount Ruapehu for the 2019 North Island Primary and Intermediate school ski champs. We all had lots of fun. On Monday the racing was cancelled due to bad weather. The next day the racing was cancelled once again but we still got a bit of skiing in. Finally, on Wednesday the racing was able to take place. It was a giant slalom race and we went one by one. The races were held in the valley. All the girls slipped their course and the boys slipped theirs. Everybody raced twice. At the end of the day, we all deserved a big sleep. The weather was still too bad to do more racing the next day. We might not have been the best on the day, but we sure tried and in my opinion, we came first in having the most fun category. Grace Room 5

Girls Basketball On Wednesday 23rd October, the Pasa Basketball Girls team participated in the Auckland Champs of Champs tournament at the North Shore Events Centre. This is the first time, Pasadena has been eligible to participate in this tournament as they had won the central zone tournament last month. The team had several close losses and some good wins. They played with determination and enthusiasm throughout the tournament. They finished 4th in their pool and won their last game against Kelston Intermediate to finish 5th out of 9 teams overall. A big thank you to Mr Brown, for coaching and organising the team throughout the past month. Here is the team: Koewtaa Rm 1, Willa Rm 2, Niesha Rm 5, Kate Rm 5, Skylah Rm 6, Harmony Rm 7, Poko Rm 9, Faith Rm 10, Danii Rm 11 and Genesis Rm 11

Growing Leaders On Thursday 24th October, 13 Pasa students were selected to represent the school as Basketball referees at the annual Primary schools Basketball tournament at Trusts Stadium. They had several sessions on how to referee and what it takes to be leaders. Each student was given the daunting responsibility of officiating and scoring the bench with over 180 kids from different primary schools including Pt Chev, Bayfield, Newton, Grey Lynn, Richmond Road and St Francis. The feedback was extremely positive with several parents commenting on their professionalism and passion. Thanks to Taylor from Sport Auckland and Mr Brown, for organising these students: Blake Rm 1, Hugo Rm 3, Bede Rm 3, Cody Rm 3, Max D Rm 3, Amaan Rm 3, Joel Rm 4, Emil Rm 4, Aaron Rumaki, Kaea Rumaki, Brooke Rm 10, Seiji Rm 11 and Isaac Rm 12 Athletics Thursday 24th October we had our school athletics day at Mt Smart Stadium. There were some amazing performances and fun had by all. Students signed up for their events ahead of time so everyone knew what they would be doing on the day. Each child had the opportunity to participate in competitive or non-competitive events, which included discus, shot put, long jump, high jump or track. We ended the day with class relays. There was some stiff competition, but in the end Room 11 took away the big win! We had one new record set and that was in the year 8 girls discus. This was set by Xzvyae Rm 5 with a throw of 21.85 metres, the previous record was 14.31m.
