Term 2 Week 3
May is a busy month for us at Holy Rosary! There’s our Mother’s Day Cake Stall, Mother’s
Day Breakfast, voting at Holy Rosary, Earn and Learn, NAPLAN and the usual Learning and
Teaching, excursions and meetings, including two Parish Education Board meetings. Thank
you to all our parents who contribute to our school so positively and in so many ways. You are
very much appreciated.
All Mums are invited to breakfast this Friday morning from 7:30am-8:30am. Egg and bacon
rolls, tea and coffee will be served from the hall for all Mums. As this is a celebration of our
Mums there will be no catering for children. Please ensure that your children have breakfast at
home before coming to school. We request that Mums bring along their own cups for
coffee/tea to help us care for our environment.
The concert band and choir will perform. These students will need to be at school no later than 8.00am for a warm up in the music room before the event.
Bali
As I shared last week, I spent a week in Ubud, Bali attending a Principal’s Conference with my
peers from the local area. The focus of the conference was on personal and community
wellbeing and the sustainability of our earth.
I have had a keen interest in enhancing children’s wellbeing by through the science of positive
psychology since attending a conference with Dr Michael Carr-Gregg several years ago. Our
work with Andrea Downie, as a principal network has focused on these practices and reaffirms
much that we are doing at Holy Rosary.
The week in Bali involved input from Andrea each day, and spending time at The Green
School in Ubud. This school seeks to provide learners with the opportunity to grow through
connection with head, hands and heart. Students cover the basics of the curriculum but are
provided to grow in their learning in a natural environment which connects them back to
what’s truly important; their personal wellbeing, their spirituality and our earth.
Their goals for their learnings come from the heart; their passions. They pursue this
learning with their head; their intellect, and their hands are used to benefit creation
and the earth.
What a privilege this conference was for me! These days provided a deeply spiritual
experience that helped fill the well of myself; it provided the opportunity to socialise,
grow and learn with and from my peers, to be immersed in the beautiful Balinese
culture and to learn from the experiences of the staff, students and parents of the
Green School.

The visit was very affirming, too. With the assistance and hard work of parents, and that of staff, our
students, too, have had the joy of rewarding experiences that have focused on ‘no walls’ and allowing
us to think globally but act locally. Visits to Gregory Lodge, the Op shop, singing at the Kensington
Community Festival and our Mercy Giving are just some of these examples. It also reminds me of a
myriad of ways we can extend this across the school, particularly in the areas of sustainability and
sharing our gifts and talents; working on meaningful projects that make a difference.
So I return with a new lens that reaffirms our practices at Holy Rosary, and allows our students to
participate in a brighter future for us, our parish community and our Kensington community; ultimately
helping to make our world a richer place.
School Closure Days Term 2, 3 and 4

School Photos
Some parents have enquired about school photos. Anne called to follow up and we were
informed that they are still a number of weeks away…they haven’t forgotten us! It is usual
practice for photos to take a couple of months to be returned. Stay tuned!
Learning and Teaching Leader
Andrew Caminiti has tendered his resignation and we will shortly advertise for a new leader.
We wish Andrew every success in the future.
Holy Rosary is once again participating in Woolworths Earn

Mother’s Day Cake Stall
The Holy Rosary Mother's Day Cake Stall is this week!
This is an annual event where the culinary talents of our parents shine to deliver a stylish,
contemporary stall selling an exquisite range of homemade goodies to the Kensington community. In
2018 we raised an amazing $5000 which was used to purchase supplies to enrich our school programs.
Apart from cakes, slices, biscuits and other sweet treats, our stall also sells preserves such as jams,
curds, sauces, relishes, pickles, tomato passata and pesto. If you can help cook up any of these best
sellers please collect new jars and lids from the School Office.
Thanks again for your ongoing support.
