1 Dynamo Leaders Nineteen of our students took part in a “Growing Young Dynamo Leaders” programme on Wednesday, 25 th March 2015. The aim is to develop student leadership and provide the opportunities for our young leaders to demonstrate communicative skills in working with team members and other students through planning and leading activities. This group of students will organise and manage lunchtime activities with groups of students in the school. This engagement supports the Key Competencies, “Relating to Others and Participating and Contributing”, where student involvement means to take care of younger members of the school, participate positively in group activities and further provide the opportunity for these leaders to accept responsibility for assigned tasks. Our students will have the opportunity to act as role models for the children in younger classes. They enter another phase where they can have a go at new things positively and can persist with repetitive activities. Amy, Sport Bay of Plenty, facilitated the training and introduced several new games and provided valuable teaching guidelines to the leaders. Amy commented, “…they were a great group of students to work with who seemed passionate about delivering to the other students in the school”. It was the first time the Waldorf World Records played team sport. After learning the rules with the first two games, they went on to win every other game. They all thoroughly enjoyed it and grew as a team. The Waldorf Warriors flippaball team have had great fun with their first season in the sport. Winning our first two games put us in the A grade and while we were outfoxed in a few games we have enjoyed practising and honing newly found skills to make it into the play offs.. A great achievement by all. (absent Pepper Rose and Max Packard) The C4 TWS Tigers had a fantastic first term of Volleyball. The mix of new players and those who had played before worked so well together, and they all involved each other out on the court. Great team work, plus they had a load of fun! The team spirit of the Happy Pineapples has been awesome this season and they have stepped up to super volley with a great attitude. WEDNESDAY WINDOW 1 st April 2015

Dynamo Leaders Nineteen of our students took part in a “Growing Young Dynamo Leaders” programme on Wednesday, 25th March 2015.

It was the first time the Waldorf Wor ld Records played team sport. After learning the rules with the first two games, they went on to win every other game. They all thoroughly enjoyed it and grew as a team.

THE EASTER FESTIVAL TABLE

We do not speak to a young child directly about death and resurrection – a young child is joyfully connected to life, the living. Abstract intellectual explanations need to be avoided if the pictures and symbols are to acquire importance as living experiences for the children.

We can tell stories, sing songs an dplay games, for example, the caterpillar eats and eats, spins a warm cradle, goes to sleep and wakens as a butterfly. Stories of transformation are good for children at this time.

One of the ways we can bring Easter into our home is through the Festival Table.

We can choose from a wealth of traditions and symbols for celebrating Easter, those that have been handed down over centuries and combine with nature’s offerings from our own surroundings.

We can start building our festival table some days before Easter with preparations in which the children can take part without being prematurely brought into the Easter experience.

An Easter nest woven from grass can be placed on the table in anticipation of the Easter eggs it will hold. In the week before Easter, bird or grass seed can be planted in a bowl under a thin layer of soil. On the table a bare branch stands ready to hold the coloured eggs. As Easter arrives, a riot of colourful felt or tissue butterflies can flutter up towards the sun. These can be pressed against the backdrop of cloth – red and green are Easter colours.

Flowers can be contrasted with an arrangement of berries or twigs from a thorn tree.

On Easter morning the Easter Hare may be found in the growing grass seeds or at the nest of some fluffy chicks and a mother hen. Perhaps an Easter picture or postcard can be found of a hare or hen and chicks or butterflies. (Representations of the crucifixion are not appropriate for the young child, nor should explanations to the meaning or background of the festival be given – this can come later. For now pictures from nature should be used).

Finally a white candle completes the Easter Festival table..

We hope this gives you some ideas and inspiration to help make Easter a joyful occasion for you and your child.

From the Office Earlier this term school parents were invited to complete a Parent Opinion Survey. Thank you for your time in completing and returning these to me. I received a 46% response. I am now in the process of collating responses and preparing a draft report which will be presented to the Chair of

the Board of Trustees for discussion and review at the next Board Meeting. I hope to publish the final report early Term Two. However, on behalf of the Board and teachers, I would like to remind you that if you feel that your child is not safe it is imperative that you ensure that teachers know your concerns so that they can be acted on. Should concerns of any sort go unattended please would you use the School’s complaints policy which is on the website on the Board of Trustees tab. Cathy
