Fabric  Requirements  

Panel  –  3/4  yard  Dark  Pink  feathers  –  5/8  yard  10  colored  prints  –  1/6  of  each  2-­‐3  white  prints  –  1/8  yard  of  each    Cutting:    From  firefly  panel  trim  down  to  24  1/2”  x  30  1/2”    Dark  Pink  Feathers:    Cut  four  strips  1  1/2”  x  width  of  fabric.  Trim  two  strips  to  1  1/2”  x  30  1/2”  and  two  strips  to  1  1/2”  x  26”  Cut  four  strips  2  1/2”  x  width  of  fabric.  Save  for  binding    Colored  prints:    From  each  colored  print  cut  one  3”  x  3”  square.    Cut  three  strips  2  1/2”  x  18”  from  each  colored  print.  Cut  two  2  1/2”  x  2  1/2”  squares  from  each  colored  print.    From  white  prints  cut:  Total  of  five  2  1/2”  x  2  1/2”  squares  Total  of  ten  3”  squares  

Sewing:    Use  consistent  1/4”  seam  allowance  throughout.    Sew  two  1  1/2”  x  30  1/2”  dark  pink  strips  to  either  side  of  the  center  panel.  Press  seams  toward  the  borders.  Sew  two  1  1/2”  x  26  1/2”  strips  to  top  and  bottom  of  center  panel.  Press  seams  toward  borders.      

 Star  blocks:    Match  up  a  colored  3”  x  3”  square  right  sides  together  with  a  white  3”  x  3”  square.    Draw  a  single  diagonal  line  on  the  back  of  each  of  the  10  white  squares.  Sew  a  1/4”  seam  allowance  on  either  side  of  the  diagonal  line.                        Cut  on  diagonal  line.  Open  up  20  half-­‐square-­‐triangle  blocks  and  press  seam  toward  the  darker  color.  Square  up  each  half-­‐square-­‐triangle  block  to  2  1/2”  x  2  1/2”.      

     Lay  out  star  block  in  rows  of  three  as  diagramed  above  alternating  2  1/2”  squares  and  2  1/2”  half-­‐square-­‐triangle  blocks.  In  each  row,  press  seams  away  from  the  half-­‐square  triangle  blocks.    Remaining  blocks:        Sew  three  different  2  1/2”  x  18”  colored  strips  together  to  make  a  strip  set.  Mix  the  color  combinations  and  placements  to  make  10  different  sets.            From  each  strip  set  rotary  cut  seven  2  1/2”  x  6  1/2”  3-­‐block  units.  You  will  need  57  units.          

Sew  3-­‐block  units  and  star  blocks  into  blocks  as  diagrammed  below:
