Presentation Software Teachers often use presentation software such as PowerPoint to aid them in their lessons. Most students have a basic grasp of PowerPoint. For this lesson, I want you to go beyond the basics. I want you to make a PowerPoint presentation with all the bells and whistles. You probably won’t use all these features in your teaching, at least not all of them in one presentation, because it would be too visually distracting. However, I want you to show me what you can do with PowerPoint. Watch this quick tip on PowerPoint to get your creative juices flowing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6tGq3tH4qSw or Stand-up routine about Power Point Here are some other PowerPoint presentations that show some of the things PowerPoint can do. For example if you wanted to play Jeopardy in your class, you would just need to get the Jeopardy template and then adapt the information on each slide to fit your needs. Make a PowerPoint presentation about a story you make up (like for a children’s book). Your presentation only needs to be a few slides long, but it should be packed with the features PowerPoint is capable of doing. Have objects flying around, pictures rotating in, text whizzing across the screen or suddenly appearing, sounds blaring, transitions between slides, and so forth. Your presentation only needs to be a few slides long, but it should be packed with the features PowerPoint is capable of doing. Have objects flying around, pictures rotating in, text whizzing across the screen or suddenly appearing, sounds blaring, transitions between slides, and so forth. Make me say, “Wow!”

Give me your opinion of how well your teachers at BYUH use technology in the classroom, especially the use of PowerPoint.

Opinion: In my opinion, my teachers at BYUH use PowerPoint well in their classrooms. Many of my teachers use PowerPoint to help us review reading assignments. They also use it to aid in their lectures. I think it is useful to have lectures presented on PowerPoint, because it is helpful to have another representation of the material as the teacher is talking to the class.

What experience have you had with presentation software and how do you envision yourself using it in your teaching.Thoughts: I have used presentation software in my classes when I am presenting to the class. I think that I can use it in my teaching by using it to present information I may be lecturing about. I think for many students, it helps to have a visual representation of the audio they are hearing. It also helps to have something to refer back to when they are studying.
