WARNING: Remove fuel cap slowlywhen refueling.
HELPFUL TIPTo obtain the correct oil mixratio, pour 3.2 ounces of2--cycle synthetic oil intoone gallon of fresh gas.
This engine is certified to operate on unleadedgasoline. Before operation, gasoline must bemixed with a good quality synthetic 2-cycleair-cooled engine oil designed to be mixed at aratio of 40:1. Poulan/Weed Eater brandsynthetic oil is recommended. Mix gasoline andoil at a ratio of 40:1. A 40:1 ratio is obtainedby
mixing 3.2 ounces (95 ml) of oil with 1 gallon (4liters) of unleaded gasoline. DO NOT USEautomotive oil or marine oil. These oils willcause engine damage. When mixing fuel, followinstructions printed on container. Once oil isadded to gasoline, shake containermomentarilyto assure that the fuel is thoroughly mixed.Always read and follow the safety rules relatingto fuel before fueling your unit.
IMPORTANTExperience indicates that alcohol blendedfuels (called gasohol or using ethanol ormethanol) can attract moisture which leads toseparationand formationof acids during stor-age. Acidic gas can damage the fuel systemof an engine while in storage. To avoidengineproblems, empty the fuel system before stor-age for 30 days or longer. Drain the gas tank, start the engineand let it rununtil the fuel linesand carburetor are empty. Use fresh fuel nextseason. Never use engine or carburetor clean-er products in the fuel tank or permanent dam-agemay occur. See theSTORAGE section foradditional information.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONSIt is recommended that the engine not beoperated for longer than 1 minute at fullthrottle.OPERATING POSITION
Cut from your left to your right.
ALWAYS WEAR: Eye protection
Long pants
Heavy shoes
WARNING: Always wear eyeprotec-tion. Never lean over the trimmer head.Rocks ordebris can ricochet orbe thrownintoeyes and face and cause blindness or otherserious injury.Do not run the engine at a higher speed thannecessary. The cutting line will cut efficientlywhen the engine is run at less than full throttle. At lower speeds, there is less engine noise andvibration. The cutting line will last longer and willbe less likely to “weld” onto the spool.Always release the throttle trigger and allow theengine to return to idle speed when not cutting. To stop engine:S Release the throttle trigger.S Push and hold the STOP switch in the
STOP position until the engine stops.
TRIMMER LINE ADVANCEThetrimmer line will advance approximately2inches (5 cm) each time the bottom of thetrimmer head is tappedon the groundwith theengine running at full throttle. The most efficient line length is the maximumlength allowed by the line limiter.Always keeptheshield in place whenthe tool is beingoper-ated.To advance line:S Operate the engine at full throttle.S Hold the trimmer headparallel to andabove
the grassy area.S Tap the bottom of the trimmer head lightly
on the ground one time. Approximately 2inches (5 cm) of line will be advanced witheach tap.
Always tap the trimmer head on a grassyarea. Tapping on surfaces such as concreteor asphalt can cause excessive wear to thetrimmer head.If the line is worn down to 2 inches (5 cm) orless, more than one tap will be required to ob-tain the most efficient line length.
WARNING: Use only 0.080! (2 mm)diameter line. Other sizes of line will not ad-vance properly and will result in improper cut-ting head functionor cancause serious injury.Do not use other materials such as wire, string, rope, etc. Wire can break off duringcutting and become a dangerous missile thatcan cause serious injury.
CUTTING METHODS
WARNING: Use minimum speedanddo not crowdthe line whencuttingaroundhard objects (rock, gravel, fence posts, etc.),whichcandamage the trimmer head, becomeentangled in the line, or be thrown causing aserious hazard.S The tip of the line does the cutting. You will
achieve the best performance and mini-mum line wear by not crowding the line intothe cutting area. The right and wrong waysare shown below.
Right Wrong
Tip of line doesthe cutting.
Line crowded intowork area.
S The line will easily remove grass andweeds from aroundwalls, fences, trees andflower beds, but it also can cut the tenderbark of trees or shrubs and scar fences. Tohelp avoid damage especially to delicatevegetation or trees with tender bark, shorten line to 4--5 inches (10--13 cm) anduse at less than full throttle.
S For trimming or scalping, use less than fullthrottle to increase line life and decreasehead wear, especially:S During light duty cutting.S Near objects around which the line can
wrap such as small posts, trees or fencewire.
S For mowing or sweeping, use full throttle fora good clean job.
TRIMMING -- Hold the bottom of the trimmerhead about 3 inches (8 cm) above the groundandat an angle. Allow only the tip of the line tomake contact. Do not force trimmer line intowork area.
Trimming
3 inches (8 cm)above ground
7
SCALPING -- The scalping technique re-moves unwanted vegetationdown to theground. Hold the bottom of the trimmer headabout 3 inches (8 cm) above the ground andatanangle.Allow the tip of the line to strike thegroundaround trees, posts, monuments, etc. This technique increases line wear.
MOWING -- Your trimmer is ideal for mowingin places conventional lawn mowers cannotreach. In the mowing position, keep the lineparallel to the ground. Avoid pressing thehead into the ground as this can scalp theground and damage the tool.
SWEEPING -- The fanning action of the rotat-ing line can be used for a quick and easyclean up. Keep the line parallel to and abovethe surfaces being swept and move the toolfrom side to side.
MAINTENANCE
WARNING: Disconnect the sparkplug before performing maintenance exceptfor carburetor adjustments.
HELPFUL TIPIMPORTANT: Have allrepairs other than the rec-ommended maintenancedescribed in the instructionmanual performed by anauthorized service dealer.
If any dealer other than an authorizedservice dealer performs work on theproduct, Electrolux Home Products,Inc., may not pay for repairs under war-ranty. It is your responsibility tomaintainand perform general maintenance.
