The choir records the Nondgl School song On Tuesday the 20th of September our school choir had the opportunity to record a new school song for the Nondgl school in Papua New Guinea. The recording will be sent over to The Nondgl school for their students to learn. It was a wonderful opportunity for the choir to gain some recording experience and to also keep the partnership alive between EMPS and Nondgl School. Thank you to all of the wonderful choir people who participated!

Telegraph Spelling Bee The daily telegraph online spelling bee has been a fun and educational game for students in stage three. Two lucky students (Declan Donnelly and Jake Hughes) from our school have one won weekly hot shotz prizes. Luckily Declan has been consistently playing the spelling bee at home and at school and Declan made the grand final on the first Monday of the holidays at Surrey Hills in Sydney. The winner on the day wins an apple Ipad 2 and a capilano hot shotz pack. Runners-up will receive a capilano hot shotz pack too. Written by Declan Donnelly. Regional Spelling Bee Griffin Heydon, Declan Donnelly, Ethan Hart and Rory Owen were all successful in making it through to the Regional Spelling Bee. Griffin Heydon has submitted an account of the day. Declan Donnelly and I participated in the Regional Spelling Bee hosted at Woodberry Public School. Declan was placed equal 20th with approximately 15 other students, while I was placed 4th. Declan made an unlucky mistake on the word ‘browser’. I made an unexpected mistake on the word ‘metallurgist’. We both represented our school very well, however neither of us will be progressing onto the next stage. Written by Griffin Heydon (or Griffin ‘Hegden’ as they called me at the spelling bee!) Term 3 ends Term 3 ends this Friday at 3 o’clock. Please make sure you remind your child to look for any lost property that they may have lying around . Term 4 begins for staff and students on Monday 10 October. Have a great holiday Regional Athletics On the 2nd of September, 9 students from E.M.P.S went to Hunter Sports Centre to compete in the regional athletics Carnival. These students showed excellent sportsmanship and upheld all the school values. Although it was the first time for most of the competitors they all did very well.

Congratulations to all these participants.

By Zak Taylor.

P and C Matters The P & C meeting held last week was full of energy. The group who attended the meeting were very enthusiastic and pro- active in doing things for our school. They are making changes to the operation of the uniform shop so that it becomes more accessible for everyone. Details are available elsewhere in this newsletter. They have also decided to use some of their funds to give the canteen a spruce up. Long overdue some of you may say. Perhaps.... but funds need to be available for this to happen. Next meeting: Thursday 13 October at 1.30pm in the library. All welcome.

Lost If anyone has lost a bracelet or watch in the school grounds this week please come to the office as we have had these two items handed in to us.

P&C News EMPS P & C Invites applicants to apply for a Canteen supervisor’s assistant. It is an on call position and hours will vary. Applications can be dropped off at the office. Sara Kasteel Stockland Star - Closing Ceremony

Wow! What a great final week of voting! Tomorrow, the 22nd of September, Stockland Greenhills will be holding the official Closing Ceremony to announce the winners of the competition. The ceremony will be located near the Customer Care Centre.

Scooby Doo will be available to meet all children from 4.30pm, with the official ceremony commencing at 6pm. Miss Lewis and Mrs Dron will be attending the Closing Ceremony and would love to see students there supporting our school.

Thank you to everyone that voted for our fantastic star! Miss Lewis Penpal Update We received out second batch of letters from our penpals at Kajonkietsuksa School Phuket in Thailand. Children are excitedly writing letters back this week so we can mail them before the holidays. Mrs Harkness Girls Soccer On Wednesday 7th September, the girls soccer team participated in the final round of the PSSA knockout competition. It was a hard fought 2-0 loss over Tamworth Public School at Tamworth. We were very unlucky not to score in the dying stages when Jenna Kennedy’s shot was deflected over the bar. Tamworth Public School team were a very strong side and our girls did a fantastic job at defending. A big thank you to the girls for all their hard work and dedication throughout this competition and also a big thank you to the parents who supported and assisted us with travelling. Miss Roe
