WEEK 5 NEWS Primary | Secondary | Whole School
Sfanta Macrina Orphanage
Charity Collection
-Clothing/ School Stationary
Thank you to everyone who donated to the
Sfanta Macrina Collection this week. Ms
Becký’s class is full with clothing and
stationary which will all go to the good
cause in helping those less fortunate than
others, reminding us all that we all have a
duty to care for each other in this world.
Ms Becky said she will be taking everything
to Sfanta Macrina on Monday so be sure to
check website for an article on the website
with a few pictures of the students delivering
your many donations.
Parent of the Week
Mr Marius Ghenea
A big ‘THANK YOU’ from the A level
Business Studies Students and all the
students in Key Stage 3 for two wonderful
sessions run on starting your own business
and becoming an entrepreneur. Your
inspirational presentation left many students
excited about their future.
Dear Parents,
It has been another eventful week both on campus and off
campus at IBSB. Once again a group of IBSB students have
been enjoying the pleasures of the great outdoors- this time
it was Year 10 who have been on their Duke of Edinburgh
Trip undertaking their preparation Bronze Expedition
Journey Trip. We had our first practice fire drill of the year on
Wednesday, with all students and staff safely out of the
buildings and lined up for registration in less than 3 minutes.
Well done everyone! Ms Becky has been busy all week
receiving donations of clothing and stationary for the Sfanta
Macrina Orphanage . The Year 7 students had a lunchtime
jewellery sale to raise money for charity. The Year 2 students
enjoyed a tour of the Bucharest aboard a Bucharest City Tour
Bus and spent an enjoyable sunny morning at The Village
Museum and had lunch in the park. Our Under 9/11/13
football teams headed off to ISB to complete their final
league games for 2014-15 season, winning the Under 9
League and coming Second in the U13 league. Well done to
all players and the team coaches, Paul Georgescu and
Ciprian Iacob for this fantastic result. We had a university
visit in school on Friday and also celebrated the European
Languages Day. The only damper in the entire week was
Mother Nature not playing ball on Friday, sending our
students back to school early without having enjoyed the fun
morning of House Sports the teachers had planned out for
them. Let’s hope the warm spring weather remains a little
longer allowing a few more outdoor activities.

DOE Silver Expedition
Congratulations to all those students who
successfully completed their Duke of
Edinburgh Silver Expedition.
A special thank you to Ms Johanna Croci for
supporting the students throughout this
experience.
This weekend Mr Georgescu joins a group of our students-
and this time parents also- for the Happy Triathlon, being
run from Mogosoia Palace. Good luck to all those taking
part in this.
There is also the Casiopeea Fun Run on Sunday in
Tineretului Park, where you can join the many families
gathered and dressed in a pink shirt ready to run, job, or
walk two laps of the lake to raise money for cancer
patients. A fun day out of all and a worthy cause!
Looking a little further ahead, we have a Non-Uniform Day
coming up on Thursday, October the 9th, to raise money
for Light in Europe, who work tirelessly to improve the lives
of the sight and hearing impaired in Romania. And in three
weeks time we will have our annual United Nations Day,
complete with an international buffet, provided by our
parents, a colourful programme of entertainment on offer
from our students and the visiting schools, and a number
of guests here to celebrate the day with us. We hope you
will all be able to join us.
Next week we will be sending out information about the
Parents Questionnaires that we ask you all to complete
each year at the end of Term 1a. This is your chance to tell
us what we are doing well, as well as an opportunity to
give us feedback on areas where we can improve what we
do. We hope that you will all take a few minutes to
complete this questionnaire before October 17.
The weather is supposed to improve tomorrow and be fine
on Sunday so take the opportunity to enjoy the parks while
you still can.
Have a wonderful weekend, and a good week next week.
Sincerely,
Ciprian Tiplea Kendall Peet Aura Bogdan Deputy Head Head of IBSB Executive Director

PRIMARY Dear Parents, Celebrations are always a very special part of school life, particularly for Primary school children. Birthdays and name days are shared with class mates on a regular basis. At this time of the year there are many different religious festivals. This week our Jewish families celebrate Rosh Hashanah and Year 4B were most fortunate to be able to share the Rosh Hashanah Eve meal of apple dipped in honey, pomegranate and fresh dates, whilst learning more about the customs associated with this festival and being able to hear the shofar blown by Zohar. Shanah tovah to all – may you have a good year ahead, and thank you very much to Zohar and Mrs Cohen. Next week is the festival of Dussehra or Dasara, when the victory of Lord Rama over the ten-headed demon king Ravana is celebrated throughout India and Nepal. Year 4A enjoyed this story very much in the first week of term; the return of Lord Rama to his kingdom features once again in another very important Hindu festival in 3 weeks’ time – Diwali. Back to this week, however, the children’s work has been enhanced by Year 2’s Educational Visit to the Village Museum and around Bucharest, looking at houses in the past and present, a football tournament and then the intention was to have the whole school House Games. Exercise is a vital part of the healthy life we wish for all our community, and the teamwork and sportsmanship engendered by these events are of immense value. It was such a shame that the weather prevented Primary from taking part, but we look forward to the next time! We continue to share all that has been achieved in our assemblies and on our display boards around the school and shall warmly welcome parents to the Parent Teacher Meetings on Tuesday and Wednesday. Best wishes, Stephanie Jones Head of Primary

SECONDARY
A Few Words from the Head of Secondary
Thank you to our parent helpers
Last week Marius Ghenea, most well-known for his popular TV
show Dragons Den, stopped by on Monday to speak to both our A
Level budding Business Studies students, and on Tuesday to speak
with our Key Stage 3 Students about starting up a business and
being a successful entrepreneur. It was a captivating session on
both occasions inspiring the next generation of entrepreneurs into
action. A big thank you to Marius for taking time out of his busy
schedule to support us in making the educational experience here
at IBSB a real world experience for our students.
If other parents are willing to come in to speak to our students
about their specific work industry and career, I would be very happy
to hear from you.
Mr Robert Hewett
Head of Secondary

Year 10 IA Year 10 have been in the mountains
learning how to survive, cook,
navigate and carry out first aid. There
had to be some minor changes to the
programme due to the inclement
weather and fitness levels, but all are
well and despite the challenge, appear
to be enjoying the experience.
Interschool football league IBSB had a very successful morning of
football with students winning many of
their matches and increasing their
standing with other international
Schools. Many thanks to Paul
Georgescu and Ciprian Iacob for
supporting this as well as Mihnea
Radulescu for the photos and of course
the students for playing so well.
