EXCELLENCE AUSTRALIA MY COUNTRY WRITING COMPETITION
This week we welcomed Avalon RSL Sub Branch President Commodore Graham Sloper to our K-6 assembly to present prizes to our students in the Australia My Country writing competition. Many of our senior students entered this competition and I would like to congratulate James Wainwright (1st place in writing), Daniel Glass (1st place in poetry) and Kelly Xu (2nd place in poetry) on their outstanding achievements. Several students also gained highly commended places: Chloe Bracher, Lorenzo Grillo, Alex Wright, Ciara Smith and Jordan Anderson. Well done to all students.
INNOVATION BYOD INFO EVENING On Tuesday evening we held a BYOD information evening for parents in our Stage 2 (Years 3 & 4) classes. The evening was well attended by parents and lots of interesting questions were asked regarding this initiative currently being trialled in Stage 3 (Years 5 & 6).
Many thanks to Mr Matt Kelson, Miss Peta Gorman and the Stage 2 staff for organising this evening for our community. We are looking forward to moving this initiative into our Year 3 and 4 classes next term.
COMMUNITY ROAD SAFETY
The ongoing issue regarding road safety around our busy school was once again discussed at our P & C meeting on Tuesday evening where Mrs Michelle Carter, Road Safety Officer from Pittwater Council, presented several options which were currently being considered regarding parking around our school perimeter. Meetings to develop solutions will continue into next term, however in the meantime there are many simple steps we can take to assist in keeping our children safe:
Take advantage of the many footpaths currently being constructed around the school perimeter by parking further away and walking on the footpath – additional exercise is an added bonus for all!
Avoid doing u-turns whenever possible as they are highly dangerous – particularly in Wangarra St.
Whilst it is not illegal to do a u-turn into a driveway, it is an incredibly dangerous practice due to the number of children using footpaths who are hard to see behind parked cars.
Make proper use of our Kiss-n-Drop zones around the school by stopping, kissing your child goodbye and allowing them to walk into school independently – a great activity for developing confidence in children.
Do not enter the school carparks to drop off your child, or walk your child through the carparks – please use the internal footpaths instead to avoid accidents.
Please take a moment to look at the road safety posters attached to this newsletter for further ideas and information. Children’s safety is everyone’s responsibility.
WELCOME BACK MR JONES! It is with great delight that we will welcome Mr Jones back to Mona Vale PS next week as he returns from his long service leave abroad. He has had a wonderful time away and I know he is looking forward to saying hello to all the children when he returns.
I would like to thank the school community for their support during my period as Relieving Principal. It has been an honour to lead the school through a very busy and exciting time and I have thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
Kind regards
Leesa Martin Relieving Principal
