LEADERSNEWS All classes are excited in readiness for the End of Year Concert next Tuesday, and at this stage the weather is looking promising, though pack a jacket! Special thanks to Caroline Fitzgerald who has filled in for Joy Groves this term and is responsible for much of the planning for the night. We encourage families to bring a picnic tea and we will be cooking a Sausage and Burger Sizzle available from 6pm for families who come straight from work. The Canteen will serve snacks, soft drinks and coffee before the concert starts. A reminder that chairs shouldn't be placed before the end of the school day, and only in designated areas marked with chalk. I was fortunate to join 50 Year 6 students and some Year 5s to participate in the Kickstart for Kids No Breakfast Breakfast held in Victoria Square this morning. It was an early start with Simone our Pastoral Care support and Laura Potts; we were hosted by radio 102.3, as well as learning more about the valuable programme this organisation runs, solely on donations. Invitations have been sent to all those who have helped in the school in any way throughout 2018. We value your time and efforts and wish to thank you with a special afternoon tea. We hope you are able to join us from 4-5pm Monday, December 10th. This event will incorporate the opening of our Nature Play space. While we understand students will be present, they will be asked to play either on the asphalt or oval, and won’t be catered for with refreshments. They will be the responsibility of their parents. Student Reports will be sent home Wednesday, December 12th, giving you the opportunity to discuss your child's progress with their class teacher before the end of the year. This is a summative report about your child's learning this year, so none of the information should be new or surprising. The report includes achievement levels for all learning areas (except Receptions), as well as an effort level to indicate their attitude and application to their studies. Learner Powers of self- managing, collaborating, communicating, thinking and researching are reflective of your child’s ability to work independently, creatively and positively to develop life learning skills. Self- reflections are written by the students and highlight strengths and growth areas across the year. Teachers have worked hard to place students in appropriate classes for 2019, and this information will be sent home with the Reports once students have met their new teacher. We will publish names of teachers, year levels and room numbers in the week 9 newsletter once they are finalised. Judy, Helena and the Year book team have once again done an amazing job producing a quality book of memories. We are able to keep the cost at $25 so if you haven't already ordered one I suggest you do. Kathy Papps

STEM – Room 14

Room 14 has been working hard throughout Term 3 to complete their STEM project partnered with their chosen industry link. Last week the students officially presented their completed STEM design solutions back to Commercial & General. They were lucky enough to be able to present to the companies CEO, Construction manager, Marketing manager and Site supervisor for the construction of the new Bunnings in Melrose Park. We were all blown away by the depth of understanding presented by all students, as well as their high levels of creativity and confidence when giving a business style proposal. The students were working on a multi-faceted problem which involved designing a carpark that would flow correctly, meet safety standard and contain over 400 carparks! Alongside this the students also had to consider Australian building standards and implement a design for entering and exiting the building, placement of lifts and travelators and lastly present two business models with marketing strategies for other potential companies that could lease the building from Commercial & General if needed in the future. Congratulations to students for another successful STEM program in 2018.

Hot Noodle Cups will NOT be available at the Canteen without pre-order.

End of year wrap! WOW! What a fantastic busy few weeks!

Term 4 without a doubt has to be the busiest time of the year, in the last 2 weeks here are some of the things we have done.

Year 7 transition seminar - There are many feelings that Year 7’s encounter as they go through the change that going to

high school brings; excitement, anticipation, anxiety and many more. Through interactive

storytelling, video clips games and activities, our Year 7’s were taken through strategies that can

help them tackle these challenges during transition, providing further skills that they can also

use as they navigate their way through life.

Christmas presentation & lunchtime craft We were treated to a humorous and engaging presentation, important elements of Christmas were shared, gift giving, trimming of trees, sharing, and joyful friendship – and in a sensitive inclusive and relevant way we were also taken through the Christmas story.

It was so much fun! , there was plenty of tinsel lots of games, plenty of singing in a lyp sync battle and quite a bit of dancing!

Following on from the Christmas presentation, Colonel Light Gardens Uniting Church kindly came along and had some

lunchtime fun creating Christmas crafts with the whole school, tree making with pipe cleaners at it’s best! They had such a

good time and the kids always really enjoy the time they get to ‘create’. Special thanks to Rev Lawrie Lingood and his amazing volunteer helpers.

Kickstart for kids ‘No breakfast breakfast’ 50 year 6 and some year 5 students from 4 classes were taken to

Victoria Square in the city for the annual, Kickstart for kids, ‘No breakfast, breakfast’ fundraiser. What an amazing and special treat, not only were the kids given breakfast, they were also able to take part in many

activities and games. Thanks Mix 102.3 and Kickstart for kids!

A note from Pastoral Care – Simone
