Dear Chronicle Readers, Last week was another wonderful time for our community. I had the utmost pleasure of sitting with some of our students as they learned in their classes. During one visit I silently cheered on a Kindergarten child as she worked out dates and numbers. I also sat with one of our Senior School classes and listened to the way authors weave narratives around a formula to result in an interesting read for their audiences. Ive seen tennis classes, running classes, science, and maths. Throughout it all I ve seen lots of joy, laughing, encouraging, and questioning. We have great teachers here, and great students. If you are ever interested in hearing more I d love to welcome you to a Friday morning drop in time. (9:00 - 9:30am) Congratulations to the College Mountain Bike Team who competed at the NSW All schools MTB Competition in the lower Blue Mountains. The Senior College Mixed team came second in their division, while the Junior Boys, most of them participating in the competition for the first time, showed great stamina and an encouraging spirit. Well done on their remarkable achievements, and thank you to the people who supported them. Turn to page 3 for a full report of their weekend. This week continues the opportunity to be involved in your child's education with several assemblies including our Formal Assembly on Thursday 20 June at 10am. The Year 11 2020 Information Night is on tonight at 7pm in the TLA. Parents and students will have the opportunity to ask questions of staff at the conclusion of the evening. There will be tables and subject areas labelled at the base area of the TLA where families can connect with teachers after the formal part of the evening is over. During the formal section, KLA Coordinators will give a very brief rundown of each subject they supervise and afterwards specialist staff will be available to answer questions that are more specific. Another exciting event this week is our K-6 Athletics Carnival this Friday 21 June. It will be a time to celebrate with those who have gifts in this area as well as a time to encourage those who struggle. Please come and join us on the day. I was asked a question recently about why our carnivals are K-6 and 7-12 versus Junior, Middle, and Senior schools. I realised it was a great question and the answer may be useful to others in the community. While we successfully split the College into three sub- schools our carnivals stay as the traditional Primary and High School to fit into the carnivals that follow on (Zone, State, etc). It is wonderful to see our students try their hardest, and we wish them well. The Riverina Christian Convention is coming up on June 28 and 29. There is an excellent set of speakers and presenters who will open up the scriptures and lead a selection of workshops. Register online for this event. Our school community stands firmly on the Word of God as revealed in the Bible. Biblical literacy is too often a forgotten discipline – even amongst Christians. The convention is a great way to sharpen your skills in this area and then apply your knowledge into action. Dear Chronicle Readers,

Last week was another wonderful time for our community. I had the utmost

pleasure of sitting with some of our students as they learned in their

classes. During one visit I silently cheered on a Kindergarten child as she

worked out dates and numbers. I also sat with one of our Senior School

classes and listened to the way authors weave narratives around a formula

to result in an interesting read for their audiences. I’ve seen tennis classes,

running classes, science, and maths. Throughout it all I’ve seen lots of joy,

laughing, encouraging, and questioning. We have great teachers here, and

great students. If you are ever interested in hearing more I’d love to

welcome you to a Friday morning drop in time. (9:00 - 9:30am)

Congratulations to the College Mountain Bike Team who competed at the

NSW All schools MTB Competition in the lower Blue Mountains. The Senior College Mixed team came second in

their division, while the Junior Boys, most of them participating in the competition for the first time,

showed great stamina and an encouraging spirit. Well done on their remarkable achievements, and thank you to

the people who supported them. Turn to page 3 for a full report of their

weekend.

This week continues the opportunity to be involved in your child's

education with several assemblies including our Formal Assembly on

Thursday 20 June at 10am.

The Year 11 2020 Information Night is on tonight at 7pm in the TLA.

Parents and students will have the opportunity to ask questions of staff at

the conclusion of the evening. There will be tables and subject areas

labelled at the base area of the TLA where families can connect with

teachers after the formal part of the evening is over. During the formal

section, KLA Coordinators will give a very brief rundown of each subject

they supervise and afterwards specialist staff will be available to answer questions

that are more specific.

Another exciting event this week is our K-6 Athletics Carnival this Friday 21 June.

It will be a time to celebrate with those who have gifts in this area as well as a time

to encourage those who struggle. Please come and join us on the day. I was asked

a question recently about why our carnivals are K-6 and 7-12 versus Junior, Middle,

and Senior schools. I realised it was a great question and the answer may be useful

to others in the community. While we successfully split the College into three sub-

schools our carnivals stay as the traditional Primary and High School to fit into the

carnivals that follow on (Zone, State, etc). It is wonderful to see our students try their

hardest, and we wish them well.

The Riverina Christian Convention is coming up on June 28 and 29. There is an

excellent set of speakers and presenters who will open up the scriptures and lead a

selection of workshops. Register online for this event. Our school community stands

firmly on the Word of God as revealed in the Bible. Biblical literacy

is too often a forgotten discipline – even amongst Christians. The convention is a great way to

sharpen your skills in this area and then apply your knowledge into action.

A weekend adventure in the lower Blue Mountains was enjoyed last weekend by two College Mountain Bike Teams. The rain didn’t put them off as they competed in a four hour relay cross country race against schools from across the state. The teams were comprised of a mix of students, some who have participated for the last five years, and to whom the tracks are like a homecoming, to students in Stage 3 who had never previously participated in a mountain biking race. These beginner students were ‘riding up’ meaning that they were riding against competitors who were at least one, maybe two years their senior. Quite a challenge! The Junior team of riders put in an enormous effort with each rider completing three laps of the 4km course, and Liam Meddens pulling in an extra 4th lap, the last rider to make it home in time. For the Senior Mixed team, two riders were also ‘riding up’ instead of riding in the Intermediate section. This also meant they were riding a harder course than they otherwise would have been - a great effort Jacob Riley and Amy Combs! The Senior Mixed team came second in their division and another great spurt of effort from Jacob Mills allowed Calvin Combs to complete an additional lap with only seconds to spare! There was some great cheering from the team. Congratulations to the team as a whole. The organisers of the event gave a shout out to Wagga Wagga Christian College over the PA, congratulating our team on contributing significantly to a fantastic, encouraging atmosphere. We did have an excellent team of supporters. Angus Tait, Greta Tait and Abigail Combs deserve a special mention for their shouts of encouragement as the team members rode by. Massive thanks to the team of parents, grandparents and teachers involved in the event. You are an essential part of the maintenance, care, food provision, transition and general support team. The riders could not do it without you! Thank you to Hamish Tait, Chris Meddens, Russell Avery and John and Jenny Avery. If you are interested in finding out more about Mountain Biking, riding socially on a Saturday afternoon in Wagga or participating in the next MTB Allschools in August in Canberra contact, Cycling Student Leader, Jacob Mills or Mrs Heidi Combs in Community. See you on the track!

This Friday the Stage 3 students will be participating in the K-6 Athletics Carnival here at the College. The

program for the day was sent home on Friday and is also available here. If you would like to help, please see Mr

Cunningham on the day.

Notes were sent home last week to Stage 3 students about the Ballarat Excursion next term, find the note here.

This will be an amazing trip and we strongly encourage all students to attend. The permission slip and deposit for

this trip is required by Thursday 27 June. If you have any questions or concerns, please talk to your child’s

teacher.

Next Thursday 27 June, the students of Middle School and their families are invited to attend an evening of

Astronomy and Ping Pong. The night will be held at the MPC and College oval, from 6:30pm – 8pm. The

Stage 3 students have been studying Space in Science and this is a great opportunity for the students to make

use of the College telescopes and have a closer look at the stars, moon and planets.

To add to the fun, we also plan to get in some practise for the Ping Pong-a-thon which will occur later in the year.

There will be a variety of games and competitions in the MPC for the students and their families to participate in.

Come and enjoy the end of term with some fun and a mug of hot chocolate!

Miss Heather Mansley, Head of Middle School

This term Stage 3 students have been investigating Australia’s

global connections. Students were fortunate to listen to Wagga

identity and missionary to the world, Mrs Isabel Baker, share her

adventures and stories. Isabel showed us numerous pictures of her

overseas trips to summer camps in Russia. She has been there 12

times as well as to the Philippines and Laos.

We learned about the ‘ring of fire’ locations,

Isabel’s grasshopper eating experience,

jeeps being used from WW2 as public

transport and what life is like for children in

third world countries.

Isabel, thank you for dedicating so much of

your life to sharing the love of God with

children around the world. What a wonderful

ambassador you are for Wagga!

Mrs Kim Heath, Stage 3 Teacher

Students from Middle and Senior School recently attended one of

the Riverina Conservatorium of Music’s Lunchtime Concert

Series ‘Unsung Heroes’ featuring violinist Lauren Davis and

pianist Hamish Tait. The concert was held in St. Johns Anglican

Church.

Two violin and piano sonatas were on the program, one by

Ludwig van Beethoven and Dora Pejacevic. The performers

played with virtuosity and sensitivity.

It is wonderful to see our Music Program being supported by

excursions like this, and to see students being inspired in their own

music practice.

On Saturday 15th June six College staff took part in training conducted by the Australian Literacy Educators Association (ALEA). International speaker, David Hornsby, delivered a day of in-sightful training titled, 'Understanding English Orthography'. Teachers travelled to Charles Sturt University in Thurgoona to discuss the implications for teaching phonics and spelling through reading and writing. It is wonderful to see teachers having regular opportunities to learn together!
