Our student reports will soon be going home and they show the tremendous growth and achievements of our wonderful students and teachers. Over the next few weeks we will be gathering to celebrate our year. I am incredibly proud of our school and I know you are too. I am also deeply grateful for the support you all give to me in my leadership role here at St. Matthew’s. Whenever we have needed to move in a different direction or take on a new initiative, you are there in support. I always value your input and respect how wonderfully generous you are towards all our staff here. Our teachers have again excelled this year. They give tirelessly of themselves and invest everything they have in their students and each other. We have a dynamic and professional group of teachers at St. Matthew’s and our children love them. Our office ladies are second to none, welcoming, professional and efficient. I am lucky to have such fabulous colleagues to work with. Our children are the best! Incredible students and beautiful young people. They make our school Holy Ground. It is with much pleasure that I inform you of the class teachers for 2014. Much deliberation with the school leadership has gone into the class teacher arrangements for next year. We have been able to put together a very strong team for our students. KINDERGARTEN: Mrs. Victoria Cole and Miss Michaela Cullen YEAR ONE: Miss Alexandra Trefoni and Mrs. Susan Cividin YEAR TWO: Mrs Fiona Baldock, Mrs. Joanne Digwood and Miss Noreen Keane YEAR THREE: Mrs. Annette Larnach, Miss Jessica Grima and Mr. Brian Hafsteins YEAR FOUR: Mrs. Ann Climpson YEAR FIVE: Mrs. Ann Burke YEAR SIX: Mrs. Rachel Usher As you can see, we welcome Mrs. Cole who joins us from the Sydney diocese and we welcome the return of Mrs. Larnach. Our brilliant Learning Support Teachers will continue their invaluable role in working with students and teachers, where it matters most – the classroom. 2014 is certainly looking like an even better year. We will have some exciting developments around parent participation to explore together and I am very much looking to opportunities to work with our generous parents around this. My thanks to you all for everything that we have achieved together so far. It is my eleventh year at St. Matthew’s next year and in that time we have gone from strength to strength with your openness and support. From my family to yours, I wish you all every blessing of this season of Advent and Christmas. Our Lord came that we might have life to the full. Fullness of life is when we recognize and share God’s ever-present love and grace. Dear Parents, What a year! Our student reports will soon be going home and they show the tremendous growth and achievements of our wonderful students and teachers. Over the next few weeks we will be gathering to celebrate our year. I am incredibly proud of our school and I know you are too. I am also deeply grateful for the support you all give to me in my leadership role here at St. Matthew’s. Whenever we have needed to move in a different direction or take on a new initiative, you are there in support. I always value your input and respect how wonderfully generous you are towards all our staff here. Our teachers have again excelled this year. They give tirelessly of themselves and invest everything they have in their students and each other. We have a dynamic and professional group of teachers at St. Matthew’s and our children love them. Greetings everyone! Peace Be With You! Christmas is quickly approaching. During this first week of Advent, we prepare ourselves for the coming of Jesus. We fill our hearts with hope and peace as the weeks progress through Advent. Everyone is invited to our school End of Year - Christmas Mass. When: This Friday 6th December Time: 10.00 am Where: St. Matthew’s Church. The teachers and students have prepared a wonderful Mass to celebrate all our gifts and achievements. After Mass, anyone who has helped in the classroom, school events, excursions, etc. are invited to a special morning tea. St. Matthew’s would like to thank you for your support and generosity. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the teachers at St. Matthew’s for their dedication and support of the faith development of all our students. Thank you to all the students of St. Matthew’s who participate with reverence at all Masses and Liturgies. Additionally, thank you to Tara Galea and Taya Hili for organizing the saying of the Angelus everyday. They worked with a very dedicated group of Stage 2 and 3 students, who led us in prayer everyday. Thank you very much! Altar Servers - Thank you to Andrew Sultana, Isabelle Touma and Bethany Dimech, for serving at each school Mass so reverently. Lastly a thank you to Luke Zahra, Jacob El Hendy and Ryan Galea, for your excellent technology skills working the power points. Wishing everyone a very Holy and safe Christmas and New year.

Health and Safety Matter The paint finish on the eaves of the Stage 2 building are starting to peel revealing asbestos fibro sheeting. The sheeting has not been disturbed but as a safety precaution we have restricted access to the area. The eaves will be inspected this week and resealed when students and staff are offsite. CANTEEN MATTERS It is highly possible that we may not be able to provide some products ordered. We are reducing our stock for the Christmas break. Today we had to close our Canteen due to lack of volunteers. There is a meeting being held on Monday 9th December at 9.00 am. Invitation to participate in Vatican questionnaire

Family life will be the focus of an extraordinary general session of the Synod of Bishops that will meet at the Vatican from 5-19 October 2014. Around 150 Synod fathers will take part in the meeting to discuss the "pastoral challenges of the family in the context of evangelisation". To help the bishops prepare for the Synod you are invited to give your feedback through a Vatican questionnaire. Diocese of Parramatta Bushfire Appeal

The Diocese has launched an emergency appeal to assist people who have been affected by the NSW bushfires. St Thomas Aquinas Parish at Springwood is one of the areas hardest hit. The impact of the fires will be felt for months and years ahead. Donations of $2 or more are tax deductible and can be made through CatholicCare Social Services Parramatta: www.ccss.org.au

Seeking Mentors: Do you want to give something back to your community?

Catholic Education Diocese of Parramatta’s Post School Options team provides one on one mentoring for secondary students. We are seeking new mentors who would like to give something back to their community and join this valuable and worthwhile program. The volunteer mentor hosts the student in the workplace for one day per week (May to September excluding school holidays). The mentor is both a personal and professional role model for the student. All mentors are offered free TAFE mentor training and receive a TAFE Certificate of Attainment ‘Mentoring in the Community’. Mentors can be from any industry, an individual in any trade area: clerical and administration, hairdressing and beauty or a large company, e.g. Bunnings. Fertility Educators Needed

Natural Fertility Services is looking for suitable applicants in the Parramatta and greater Sydney area to train as Fertility Educators. Thorough, in-depth training over a 12-month period is provided to successful applicants. Some prior experience of Natural Family Planning is desirable but not essential. Sessional work is available to those who complete the training and become accredited educators. The 2014 training will commence in March. Feast of the Holy Innocents: 28 December

The Conventual Franciscan Friars invite you to join Bishop Anthony Fisher OP for the annual Mass for the Feast of the Holy Innocents at Our Lady of the Rosary Parish, Kellyville. Campion College Summer Program: 12-17 January

Campion’s Summer Program gives interested students the opportunity to live College life at Campion for five days and nights before making any long-term tertiary decisions. Each morning, participants taste Campion subjects: Literature, History, Theology, Philosophy, Science, Maths and Latin. This is followed by various activities including a beach trip, sport, bush walking, trivia and ballroom dancing. Schoenstatt Girls’ Camp: 14-17 January 2014

Girls aged 16 & 17 are invited to a four-day camp at Mt Schoenstatt. We will explore topics such as human dignity, mod-esty and relationships. Program also includes prayer, craft and fun activities.
