Thank you for your commitment to partner with OLGC Parish School as we strive for all to come to know and act upon all that God has done for the world in Jesus and to equip our students to lead the transformation of the culture. As Archbishop Vigneron says, “God calls our children to become joyful missionary disciples of Jesus Christ, and our schools to equip them for their sacred missions.” At OLGC Parish School, faith is at the core of everything we do. Thank you for your sacrifice to send your child(ren) to our Catholic school. There is no greater success and no greater gift than to give your child(ren) a relationship with Jesus and His Church! The Archdiocese of Detroit has shared the next step in the Unleash the Gospel movement: “Unleashing Our Catholic Schools: A Strategic Vision for the Future of the Archdiocese of Detroit.” This new vision is the fruit of prayerful discussion and one that will guide our school as we move forward with our mission. Please take a moment to read this Detroit Catholic article ( https://bit.ly/2sUKo5E), which also includes a link to the new vision both a mobile and PDF version. The OLGC Staff read the article and vision with enthusiasm for what God is doing in our midst. This new vision fuels us to provide the ongoing dedication required of us to do His great work at OLGC Parish School. The new vision from the AOD will guide our strategic planning process. We have the opportunity to gather and discuss the progression of our school mission at a Coffee Chat this week. Please plan to attend on Tuesday at 10:00 AM in the Parish House or on Wednesday at 7:00 PM in the JPII Rooms at the church. An update will be provided on our school budget and strategic plan. It’s hard to believe, but it’s now time to pay your deposit for the 2019-2020 school year! We look forward to our continued partnership in offering a life-changing encounter with Jesus! To secure placement for your child(ren), please register in FACTS and pay a $200 deposit per child by Friday, February 8th. You will find the FACTS Tuition link on our new school website. Our Open House event was a huge success! We had over 50 new families come see our school. We will be opening up placement for new families after the February 8th deadline. Please contact the school office if you have any questions regarding the FACTS registration. In Christ, Melissa Hunt, Principal

What a week to take a step back and count how blessed we are. With such frigid weather, I've found myself drawn to gratitude in prayer. With a warm house, layers of clothing to keep warm, daily Mass, and never a worry about having enough to eat, my heart goes out to the families we are collecting clothing for.

With the short week, we are going to extend the drive at least until Monday. Thank you to those of you who have already donated, the generosity of this community is shining through. The service squad student leaders are loving going to the classrooms and collecting all the donations. Hopefully we can fill my entire office!

Speaking of gratitude, a special thanks to all the altar servers. You continue to shine the light of Jesus to the school and parish. Thank you!

-Angela Maile Campus Minister

IN ROOM 2

SCHOOL SAFETY GRANT

The Michigan State Police has issued another School Safety Grant available on February 1st. It must be completed by March 1st. Is someone available to write the grant? An incredible sample will be provided! The money would be used to fund a visual signal in our commons and gym when we have drills. These areas of our school are noisy at times of the day and can not hear a PA announcement. The visual signal would allow these areas to be notified of a drill.

Thank you for your consideration of yourself or a member of our parish community who would be willing to do this for our school!

Here is more information: https://files.constantcontact.com/7958be5f201/

A letter written by a third grade student (signed by numerous other students) asked if students may play in the snow at recess. After discussing with the recess supervisors, the decision has been made to support this request with the following expectations:

1. This student leader will be in charge of an "open" and "closed" sign for playing in the snow.2. Students may play in the grass area only (not on the snow banks).3. Students may only play in the snow if they are wearing appropriate winter clothing (boots, snow pants, gloves, etc.)4. Students are not allowed to throw snow.5. Snow creations are to be destroyed at the end of recess.

This will be announced over the PA on Monday! Thank you for helping enforce safety and honor student voice at OLGC Parish School!
