Through the Lens: Dallas Arts District Call for Entry Juried Exhibition
To support the Dallas Arts District (DAD) and give back to our community, HALL Arts is encouraging all artists - pro-fessional, emerging and students - to submit images for this exciting project, Through the Lens: Dallas Arts District. Im-ages selected will be featured in a hardbound book, as well as considered for display in a prominent downtown location in the DAD, within the new HALL Arts Hotel. The challenge is to capture a glimpse of the life and vibrancy that surrounds the Dallas Arts District. The DAD is the largest urban arts district in the United States. Spread over 20 square blocks, it is the hub of artistic creativity featuring award-winning museums, performing arts venues, entertainment merchants, as well as an arts high school. Images will be accepted from May 1 through April 30, 2018. Each photographer may submit up to 8 unique high-resolution images. There is no fee for entering the competition. One day God noticed a racket going on around a man in Italy. I don’t want people to forget what you did for us.” The Lord replied to Michelangelo: “In times past I stayed in many different places. I don’t remem-ber living in that stone you’re working on.” “Lord,” said the sculptor, “when your Son came to us, he left your Holy Spirit everywhere; we have to search it out, dis-cover it, and reveal it to others.” The Lord was pleased with Michelangelo’s answer and left him to chip away. Slowly, very slowly, the sculptor set free the figure of a woman holding the body of her dead son in her lap.

Bishop Burns disappointed by House passage of SB 4, “Anti-Sanctuary Cities” legislation
The Texas Catholic Conference of Bishops (TCCB) is disappointed by the Texas House’s vote to pass SB 4, which will punish local police officers if they do not fully cooperate with detainer requests issued by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). SB 4 would also allow local peace officers to inquire into the legal status of people who are arrested or detained.
The bishops commented on the last-minute amendment which allows police to inquire into the status of detained persons, in addition to those who are arrested: “We are deeply disap-pointed that the House revised SB 4 to include people who have committed no crime that merits arrest or citation,” said Bishop Joe Vásquez of Aus-tin, who also serves as chair of the US Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Committee on Migration and Refugee Services. “This will not help peace officers build trust with the migrant community, which is critical to keeping all our communities safe.”
Acknowledging governments have the right and responsibility to maintain their borders, Cardinal Daniel DiNardo of the Galveston-Houston Arch-diocese added, “Immigration law should be en-forced in a way that is targeted, proportional and humane. This bill does not meet the standard.”
“Immigrants who come to this country to work or to flee violence are not a threat to our safety,” explained Archbishop Gustavo García-Siller of the San Antonio Archdiocese. “Sadly, this legisla-tion will suppress their ability to contribute to our society and economy, and as a matter of prin-ciple, the unity of families must be safeguarded.”
"In light of SB4 passed by the State House, I stand with my brother bishops in Texas", added Bishop Ed-ward J. Burns of Dallas. "This also gives me the oppor-tunity to support the need for immigration reform in our country and advance the Christian teaching to welcome the stranger as our brothers and sisters in Christ regardless of race, ethnicity or religion. I pray that all people of goodwill will see immigrants in our community as beloved children of God."
The bishops expressed gratitude for the legisla-tors who lead the opposition to the bill, as well as Catholics and others from throughout the state who opposed it. “Thousands of Catholics joined with fellow Texans to testify, rally and encour-age their representatives to stop this legislation,” explained Jennifer Carr Allmon, executive direc-tor of the TCCB. “We thank those who have taken a principled stance in solidarity with immigrants, and who have worked so hard in this cause.”

"Esto no ayu-dará a que los oficiales del orden se ganen la confian-za de la comunidad migrante, lo cual es fundamental para mantener seguras todas nuestras comunidades".Reconociendo que los gobiernos tienen el derecho y la responsabilidad de mantener sus fronteras, agregó el Cardenal Daniel DiNardo de la Arquidiócesis de Galves-ton-Houston, "La ley de inmigración debe ser aplicada de una manera que sea dirigida, proporcional y huma-na. Este proyecto de ley no cumple con el estándar"."Los inmigrantes que vienen a este país a trabajar o huyendo de la violencia no presentan una ame-naza para nuestra seguridad", explicó el Arzobis-po Gustavo García-Siller de la Arquidiócesis de San Antonio. "Lamentablemente, esta legislatura su-primirá su capacidad de contribuir a nuestra so-ciedad y economía, y como cuestión de principios, la unidad de las familias debe ser salvaguardada".“En vista de la aprobación del proyecto de ley SB4 por la Cámara de Representantes, me solidarizo con mis hermanos obispos de Texas”. Agregó el Obispo Edward J. Burns de Dallas. “Esto también me da la oportuni-dad de apoyar la necesidad de una reforma migrato-ria en nuestro país y promover la enseñanza Cristiana de dar la bienvenida al forastero como nuestros her-manos y hermanas en Cristo, independientemente de su raza, etnia o religión. Información Sobre BautismosPara Niños Menores de 7 Años de Edad
Las próximas clases pre-Bautismales en Español se lle-varan a cabo el 18 de mayo y el 1 de junio a las 6:30 pm. Pueden tomar las clases antes de que nazca su bebe. Las próximas fechas de Bautismos son el 27 de mayo y el 17 de junio. Requisitos Básicos: Uno de los padres puede regis-trarse en persona en la oficina principal; traiga la acta de nacimiento original, presente documentación sacramental de los padrinos. Los papas y padrinos necesitan asistir a una clase pre-Bautismal. Los padrinos deben ser (1) plena-mente iniciados a la Iglesia Católica con el Bautismo, Pri-mera Comunión y Confirmación. (2) deben tener al menos 16 años de edad, (3) deben estar practicando la fe, y (4) si casados, tienen que estar cazados por la Iglesia. No es necesario estar registrado como parroquiano en Catedral, pero los invitamos a ser miembros y a participar en la vida de la Iglesia en Catedral. Ministerio ShalomEl ministerio Shalom es un ministerio de ayuda para per-sonas que están dispuestas a parar sus adicciones al al-cohol y las drogas pero sobre todo a recuperar una vida sana y feliz. Ofrecemos un espacio fraterno, serio y con-fidencial; damos la oportunidad de descubrir el por que de nuestra enfermedad: resentimiento, odio, ira, intole-rancia, amargura, depresión o tristeza; damos apoyo, re-cuperación y sanación a la persona adicta y sus familia-res y amigos que lo necesiten. Las reuniones se llevan a cabo los primeros cuatro domingos del mes a las 3:00 pm.

Yeshua Grupo de Jóvenes Adultos
Si usted es un joven adulto entre 18 y 32 años de edad, soltero, y sin compromisos los invitamos a nuestro grupo de jóvenes adultos. Las reuniones se llevan a cabo cada domingo en el salón de conferen-cias en seguida de las oficinas principales de 5:00 pm a 6:30 pm. Inmediatamente después de nuestra reunión participamos en la Misa de 7:00 pm. Todos son invitados a participar como lectores, acomoda-dores, servidores del altar o Ministros Extraordina-rios de la Comunión. También somos responsables por la Hora Santa cada primer lunes del mes a las 7:30 pm donde tenemos la oportunidad de estar un tiempo con Jesús, donde podemos hablar con El desde lo mas profundo de nuestros corazones.
