Water/Wastewater Operator Certification Preparation Program10 Week Program

Program Information Can you picture yourself beginning or restarting your career in the water industry? There is a growing demand in communities across Ontario for certified operators to operate and maintain water treatment and distribution systems, as well as wastewater collection and treatment facilities.

This program aims to provide committed individuals between the ages of 18 and 29 with the knowledge and skills needed to successfully pass the operator certification exam, which is a prerequisite for employment in this exciting field. Both in-class and hands-on training will be utilized.

Program Overview This 10 week youth training-to-employment project for the water industry will provide participants with a unique, in-demand set of skills and knowledge for employment. The skills learned in this program will assist graduates to attain employment in a wide range of settings.

Water/wastewater operators have an important role in protecting public health and the environment. As such, operators must be familiar with water and wastewater treatment processes, wastewater collection and water distribution system operation and workplace safety. In addition, the operator must have an understanding of basic and applied math and science, equipment basics and government requirements.

Admission Requirements• All potential students must have a minimum of Grade 12 and

complete a Test of Workplace Essential Skills (TOWES).

• The project will target youth aged 18–29.

• All potential students must fill out the appropriate application forms and assessments prior to training.

Course Information This course will run daily from 8:30 am – 4:00 pm from Monday to Friday for 10 weeks.

Evaluation Appropriate testing will be administered throughout the program. The instructor will provide an opportunity for improvement based on this feedback. Arrangements will be made for all eligible students to write the OIT exam.

Credentials At the successful completion of the program, participants will receive a Confederation College “Recognition of Achievement” credential. Students successfully completing the OIT exam will receive the Operator-in-Training Certification through the Ontario Water Wastewater Certification Office (OWWCO) on behalf of the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change.

***CATERING CONTRACT OPPORTUNITY*** November 11th, 2015

The Fort William First Nation is currently inviting Quotation Submission from Members of the Fort William First Nation Community to provide all the necessary materials, labour and equipment to provide CATERING SERVICES for the Fort William First Nation Remembrance Day Ceremony-Feast located at the Community Centre. CATERING EVENT – REMEMBRANCE DAY FEAST The scheduled date for this event will be November 11th 2015 with lunch being served for 12 noon. Interested individuals are asked to submit to two menu options with an expected attendance of approx. 350 people.

Position Title: Jury Roll Administrator-Ministry of the Attorney General – Temporary Employment (Immediately-November, 2015)

Position Description:

• Fort William First Nation is seeking an individual to participate in a short, temporary project, starting immediately and continuing intermittently in October. The successful candidate should have some administrative ability.

• To collaborate with the Ministry of the Attorney General to help increase the number of members from the community on the 2016 Jury Roll. It is important that First Nations individuals be represented on the jury roll so they may serve as potential jury members and so other jury members can benefit from First Nations’ wisdom and experience.

Major Responsibilities:

• Deliver the jury questionnaire letters to individuals in the community who have been chosen to receive a questionnaire;

• Review Band Electoral List and provide only names of on reserve individuals who are 18 and older, as well as mailing addresses.

JOB POSTING Position Title: Native Inmate Liaison Worker (NILO)

Casual / On-Call Position Description: Under the general direction of the Director of Youth and Social

Development, the Native Inmate Liaison Worker will assist inmates serving terms of imprisonment in their successful reintegration into the community by providing culturally relevant programs, services and activities aimed at promoting Aboriginal Healing and Wellness.

Major Responsibilities: • Plan, organize and facilitate Native Programs and activities on a regular basis, providing an itinerary

of events as requested by the institution. • Interview all Native inmates upon admission to inform them of programs and services available. • Complete a NILO Programming Intake form on all offenders, record all client contact information on

the NILO client contact sheet and submit monthly statistics on the NILO Statistics Form. • Attend and participate in meetings at the institution such as staff meetings, case conferences,

program committee meetings, temporary absence committee meetings and other meetings as requested.

• Act as a resource to the Parole Board if requested with respect to native programming, cultural and spiritual issues.

• Assist native inmates with the development and verification of Temporary Absence plans for work, education or treatment etc.

• Act as a liaison between Native clients and staff/community groups. Probation and Parole services, Elders, and Spiritual Teachers., Native community corrections workers and other service providers.

• Assist corrections staff in developing an awareness of the Native Culture by providing training sessions to staff as per request by the institution.

• Facilitate communication between Native inmates, their families, institutional staff and other agencies.

• Assist with the development of discharge plans for Native inmates. • Prepare and submit regular reports and statistics pertaining to programs, activities and clients to the

Superintendent or designate and agency Executive Director as required. • A full job description is available upon request.

Qualifications: • Demonstrated knowledge of Aboriginal Culture and spirituality • Demonstrated experience/education in counselling men and women of Aboriginal descent • Experience in program facilitation and demonstrated teaching skills • Experience working with First Nations individuals • Demonstrated knowledge of the principles surrounding care and control of inmates and experience

working in a correctional facility. • Skills in prioritizing tasks, managing time • Good writing and organizational skills • Demonstrated working knowledge of computers and associated software • Related post-secondary degree or diploma Conditions of Employment: • Valid Ontario Drivers License and use of personal vehicle. • Must be able to provide satisfactory CPIC • Must be willing to take training as required. • Subject to a pre-employment drug test.
