ALL SAINTS DAY Since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of

witnesses, [the Saints] let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with

perseverance the race that is set before us. Heb. 12:1 Today is the Solemnity of All Saints, which according to our Catholic Tradition celebrates those who are officially “listed” as saints (“canonized”): (1) a deceased Christian, (2) investigated by competent Church authorities, (3) and found to be worthy of imitation. * * * * * * * *

New Spanish-Speaking Priest Father Antonio Almonte, Dunwoodie Class of 1994, has volunteered to celebrate the 12:30 Spanish language Sunday Mass here, starting on November 22nd. His full-time, priestly ministry is that of Catholic Chaplain at Lenox Hill Hospital on the Eastside. Muchas gracias, Padre Antonio! * * * * * * * *

Long-handle Collection Baskets Today we return to the practice of having the sacristans take up the Sunday collection following the Prayer of the Faithful. The sacristans will wear gloves and will have sanitized the baskets before each Mass. Thank you for your continued, generous support of Holy Trinity—OUR parish.

Congratulations, New Catholics! Received into the Catholic Church & Confirmed

    Mark Totten, Sarah Hassan

Baptized, confirmed and Received First Eucharist Zev Joffe, Howard Bernstein, Nicolas Moore

and Jennifer Ballenger (Jennifer’s newborn, Elias Ballenger will also be baptized)

N.B. Damien Jungermann is being baptized at his new parish in Florida, where he now permanently

resides. Holy Trinity Parish rejoices at the good news of new adult members of our Church. At the 5:30 Vigil Mass last night, (1) two Christian Candidates were received into the Catholic Church, and (2) four Catechumens were Baptized, Confirmed and given their First Eucharist. These loyal people had participated in our parish Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (R.C.I.A.), the process of being absorbed into our Faith Community by Christian “thought, word and deed” begins in the fall and usually terminates at the Easter Vigil. This year we finally, we will have the pleasure of seeing a half-dozen men and women being received into our Church after the homily at the 5:30 Mass this coming Saturday, October 31st. What an All Hallows Eve this will be! Glory be to God in the highest! * * * * * * * *

    Bulletin Insert “SAINTS AMONG SAINTS”

Biblically, everyone who has been baptized into Christ’s Body are HOLY ONES or SAINTS (see below)

In today’s Bulletin you will find a beautiful, one-page, alphabetical location chart of 92 saints who appear in stained glass, statues, bas-reliefs and mosaics in our church. We often take for granted the dozens of “Holy Ones who surround us”

One hundred, German-made, stained glass windows have brightened the Upper Church of Holy Trinity Parish, in light and in faith, since 1912. We gain comfort and encouragement as we think of all the happy souls connected to Christ by Baptism: EARTH “Holy Ones” still on the journey HEAVEN “Holy Ones” at home with God PURGATORY “Holy Ones” still at Heaven’s doorstep

“Bury my body wherever you want; do not be worried about it. One thing I ask – that you REMEMBER ME AT THE ALTAR OF THE

LORD.” – The last words of St. Augustine’s mother, St. Monica, on her deathbed

November is the special month we pray for the souls of the dead who are “at Heaven’s doorstep” [Purgatory]. They are those whom God is purifying of any “remains” of the very serious sins they committed and egotistically hold on to. (Think of the natural resentments and hatred we retain when we say, “I will forgive, BUT I will never forget.’) ALL SOULS ENVELOPES ARE AT THE BACK OF THE CHURCH. PICK ONE UP, FILL IN THE NAMES OF YOUR DEAD, AND DEPOSIT THEM IN ANY SUNDAY COLLECTION. THEY WILL BE PLACED ON THE ALTAR THROUGHOUT THE MONTH OF NOVEMBER.

    Vote! Its’ a Moral Duty!

Forming Consciences for a Faithful Citizenship, Part 1. U.S. Bishops’ Reflection on Catholic Teaching & Political Life

7…. The responsibility to make choices in political life rests with each individual in light of a properly formed conscience, and that parti-cipation goes beyond casting a vote in a particular election. 58. The Church is involved in the political process but is not partisan. The Church cannot champion any candidate or party. Our cause is the defense of human life and dignity and the protection of the weak and vulnerable. 59. The Church engages in the political process but should not be “used.” We welcome dialogue with political leaders and candidates; we seek to engage and persuade public officials. Events and/ or photo ops can’t substitute for serious dialogue. 60. The Church is principled but not ideological.
