Anna Netrebko opens her third consecutiveMet season in her company debut as Tatiana,the naïve heroine from Pushkin’s classicnovel. Irish actress Fiona Shaw directsDeborah Warner’s new production ofTchaikovsky’s romantic tragedy. Conductedby the great Valery Gergiev, MariuszKwiecien portrays the title character,and Piotr Beczala plays Lenski.

William Kentridge’s dazzling production of Shostakovich’s hilarious surrealist operaabout a beleaguered Russian official and his runaway nose returns to the Met for thefirst time since its sold-out 2010 premiere.Pavel Smelkov conducts a cast led by PauloSzot as the hapless Kovalyov, with AndreyPopov as the menacing Police Inspectorand Alexander Lewis as Kovalyov’s nose.

Patricia Racette portrays the tempestuousdiva Floria Tosca in Luc Bondy’s productionof Puccini’s enduring favourite with audienceseverywhere. Roberto Alagna sings Tosca’slover, the painter Cavaradossi, and GeorgeGagnidze is the corrupt, lustful Scarpia.Riccardo Frizza conducts Puccini’s sweeping,dramatic tale of murder, lust, and politicalintrigue.

Verdi’s brilliant final masterpiece Falstaff has its first new Met production in nearly 50 years, conducted by James Levine and directed by Robert Carsen. AmbrogioMaestri sings the iconic title role, AngelaMeade is Alice Ford and Stephanie Blythe isMistress Quickly in a cast that also includesLisette Oropesa, Jennifer Johnson Cano,Paolo Fanale and Franco Vassallo.

Renée Fleming sings her first Live inHD performance of one of her signatureroles, the lovelorn mermaid Rusalka, in Dvorák’s sumptuously melodic opera. Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducts a cast thatincludes Piotr Beczala as the handsomePrince; Dolora Zajick as the cackling swampwitch; Emily Magee as the foreign princessand John Relyea as the Water Sprite.

Director Richard Eyre returns to the Met witha new staging of Massenet’s Werther, starringJonas Kaufmann and Sophie Koch in theirfirst Met performances as the brooding poetWerther and his unattainable love, Charlotte.Lisette Oropesa sings the role of Sophie,Charlotte’s sister; David Bižic debuts as Charlotte’sfiancé, Albert; and Jonathan Summers is Charlotte’sfather, Le Bailli. Alain Altinoglu conducts.

An exciting young cast stars in FrancoZeffirelli’s classic production of La Bohème,the most-performed opera in Met history.Italian tenor Vittorio Grigolo stars as Rodolfo,and Romanian soprano Anita Hartig makesher Met debut as Mimì. Susanna Phillipssings the flirtatious Musetta and MassimoCavalletti is Marcello in a production led byrising conductor Stefano Ranzani.

James Levine conducts the first Live inHD performance of Mozart’s barbed comicromance Così Fan Tutte. Lesley Koenig’ssleek production will star Susanna Phillipsand Isabel Leonard as the sisters, MatthewPolenzani and Rodion Pogossov as theirfiancés; and Danielle de Niese as their feistymaid Despina.

Joyce DiDonato sings her first Metperformance of the title character in Rossini’sCinderella story, La Cenerentola, with belcanto master Juan Diego Flórez as herdashing prince. Met Principal ConductorFabio Luisi leads a cast that also includesPietro Spagnoli, Alessandro Corbelli andLuca Pisaroni.

Alexander Borodin’s epic has its first Metperformances since 1917 in a new productionby director Dmitri Tcherniakov. GianandreaNoseda conducts the lush score, famous forits celebrated Polovtsian Dances, and IldarAbdrazokov sings the title role. The stunningcast also includes Oksana Dyka and SergeySemishkur, Anita Rachvelishvili, MikhailPetrenko and Štefan Kocán.

THE GOLDEN AGEIn 1923, in a seaside town in the south of theSoviet Union, where trade and the mafia areflourishing, Boris falls in love with Rita – acabaret dancer at The Golden Age, and thegirlfriend of the local gangster. Audiences willbe thrilled by this dazzling jazz-era ballet withits musical parodies, frantic pace, passionateintrigue and variety of dance styles.

SPARTACUSThe great epic of the rebellion against Rome of the slave-turned gladiator Spartacusis one Khachaturian’s most famous works. It is one of the greatest ballets in the Bolshoi repertoire since the 1960s. SLEEPING BEAUTYWith glorious music by Tchaikovsky andbased on the classic fairy tale, SleepingBeauty is hugely popular. Cursed at birth bythe evil fairy, Princess Aurora descends into adeep slumber on her 16th birthday. Only thekiss of a prince will awaken her. This classicballet will captivate fairy-tale lovers and thewhole family this Christmas.

JEWELSInspired by the famous jewellers of NewYork’s Fifth Avenue, this triptych is a tributeto women, and to the cities of Paris, NewYork and St. Petersburg using music by threegreat composers. From 1967, the ballet withits jewel-like costumes celebrates the threegreat cities and the three dance schools thatforged the elegance, aesthetic and style ofchoreographer George Balanchine.

LOST ILLUSIONSLucien, a young provincial and buddingcomposer, sets out to conquer the Parisianscene in search of glory. His success soonblinds him, and he betrays his friends and hislove. A story of thwarted love, ambition anddisillusionment, with 19th century Paris as itsbackdrop, this is a fabulous new ballet in thegreat Bolshoi tradition.

JOHN PASSIONAfter the extraordinary performances of Bach’s St. Matthew Passion in Berlin in 2010, thecollaboration of Sir Simon Rattle and opera director Peter Sellars is repeated in what promises to be an equally memorable, theatrically-enhanced performance. The orchestra is joined by the Berlin Radio Choir and a cast of magnificent soloists for what should be a deeply moving musical experience.
