COURSE CONTENT STUDENTS’ REQUIREMENTS LIST A full requirements list will be sent to students well in advance of the course start date Tunisian Crochet is a hybrid craft between knitting and crochet and great fun to do. It opens up a whole new world of possibilities in yarn crafting. Amazingly simple to learn, for beginners or experienced crocheters and knitters alike, there are thousands of Tunisian stitches to try out that will take you far beyond the basic stitches, producing all manner of textures, colour work, cables and lace. The Victorians used the most basic Tunisian crochet stitch to make background canvases for their cross-stitch work, but you will go much further. During this two-day course you will learn and practice the Tunisian simple knit and purl stitches and what happens when you begin to combine them. You will discover how to increase and decrease, and also do some colour work. And you could well come away with a completed small project. Your tutor will provide all the yarns and hooks you need, but feel free to bring your own if you prefer. Perhaps you have three reasonably smooth (not hairy) pale-ish coloured yarns that go well together. And if you can make a slip knot and simple crochet chain before you arrive, you will make progress very quickly. However, if you are just a confident learner with no crochet experiences, it won’t take you long to get up to speed. Lindy Zubairy trained in Fashion Design and Textiles, gaining two awards for her illustrations and fashion reporting. With a PGCE from Goldsmith’s College, she now teaches crochet to adults as well as passing on her knowledge to trainee teachers at the University of East London where she achieved a Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy. Lindy also contributes to Inside Crochet magazine as a features writer and crochet designer, and published her first book Popcorns, Bobbles & Puffs to Crochet in late 2016.
