In bargaining with God, Abraham demonstrates a real persistence in prayer (1). Jesus invites us to persist in prayer as well, to “ask…seek…knock” (3). May our prayer open us to God’s will, and so build up his strength within us (Ps.). In baptism we have died to Christ, and have been raised to life with him (2).

SUNDAY READINGS SYNOPSIS

Increase of Faith, Hope and Love Jesus encourages to pray with persistence. Not just to keep asking, but to have a rhythm of prayer in our lives – times when we pray, places, spontaneity during the day. He also gives an indication of what it does for you. It brings an increase in faith, hope and love. We may not get the specific intention we ask for, but we always get the Holy Spirit. In asking, knocking on God’s door, in seeking, we always find God opening to us, giving us something, and finding a new rootedness in live.

The Gabriel Project

The Gabriel Project is our new Parish-based program

to help pregnant women in crisis.

The mission of the Gabriel Project is to offer support

to pregnant mothers and their infants by providing

for their spiritual, emotional and material needs. This

mission is accomplished through the work of

compassionate and selfless volunteers, who assist

through mentorship, prayer and the distribution of

gifts. Our objective is to see that every mother and

child who seeks assistance is provided the

opportunity to experience authentic care through

compassionate and necessary support.

Christian Meditation Group. In an age of rush and noise, it is essential that we find time to be still and quiet. “Be still and know that I am God,” says the Psalmist. In this prayer of silence called Christian Meditation we find God who dwells in our own heart. And, in finding Him, we find our own selves and thus, are renewed. A Christian Mediation Group regularly meets Mondays at 4:00pm in the Chapel. Please call Fran at 488-4229 to learn more about this program.

Legion of Mary. The Legion of Mary is an international evangelical organization dedicated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. There are weekly prayer meetings each Wednesday at 8:45am following the 8:00am morning Mass, in St. Anne’s Room Room (in parish office). Interested? YM NEWS & EVENTS Share what you love about being Catholic

We choose to be Catholics because we know joyful practice help us to become the people God wants us to be. A good way to help children to find the same joy in our faith is to share what we love about it ourselves: “My grandmother prayed the Rosary everyday of her life”, said Lisa. “When I was old enough she gave me my own Rosary and taught me how to pray it. This prayer has helped me through many though times in my life and I pray it often with my own children.” “I enjoy celebrating the seasons of the liturgical year and marking the milestones of our faith”, said Chris. “My children love changing the colors of our displays, singing seasonal hymns, and learning stories of saints from long ago.” “I fell away from Church when I was in college,” said Erica. Then I started dating a man who was devout a Catholic and I went to Mass a few times with him. We fell in love and he asked that I go to confession so we could receive Communion together. I did it for him, but felt such a thrill when I heard the words of absolution and realized that Jesus really did forgive me. Now we tell our children that Confession brought us together.”

Ordinary Time

Ordinary time…it sounds so plain after a long and beautiful Easter season. Yet Ordinary Time is what we call the long summer season where green is the primary color in the church. Why green? Green is a sign of growth and life to us Catholics. It sym-bolizes our ever-growing faith.

Why do we call it Ordinary Time? Ordinary Time is that part of the liturgical year when no par-ticular moment or aspects of the Christian mystery (Christ’s birth, death, and resurrection) is celebrat-ed. There are two phases of Ordinary Time. The shorter phase takes place during winter between the Season of Christmas and the Season of Lent. The longer one goes through the summer and fall be-tween the Season of Easter and the Season of Ad-vent.

So, delight in the summer season and the green. Let it remind us of our ever-growing faith and need and love for Christ. It gives us time to glory in his creation as we prepare to celebrate His Birth again!

Youth Participants to Steubenville Conference

Mary is a sophomore at Victory Christian High School. Mary has been involved in youth minis-try at OLA for 1 year and helps during the 11am mass as an usher. Mary is a great athlete and is very active on her school’s soccer and bas-ketball teams.

Fiona is a junior who is homeschooled. She has been participating in youth ministry at OLA for 5 years. Fiona as-sists during the 11am mass as a vocalist in the choir as well as a lector and a cantor. Fiona loves to bake and often brings treats to share during youth group.

Please continue to save the Box Tops for Education. Thank you to everyone who turned them in to the school. We earned $1,000.00 for the school with them!
