Una nota del Párroco

Dear friends,

Once again our town is suffering from street violence and death.

It's easy to give in to the illusion that "no one is doing anything" ... but that's simply not true. The city is moving forward on several strategies. And so is the Catholic Church.

Do you remember the 4 strategies our diocese adopted some months ago? 1) Connect children and parents with each other and their Catholic faith. 2) Transform our churches into accepting sanctuaries where all young people, regardless of background, are welcome and encouraged to explore the life God has given them. 3) Promote trust between our communities and those responsible for public safety. 4) Bring the power of prayer to our work.

Recent staff and parish council meetings determined Sacred Heart had moved forward very significantly in all the strategies except # 3. That's why in two weeks we've in-vited the Chief of Police to speak at all weekend Masses --- so we can meet him and develop trust in him … and become more motivated to do our part to ensure public safety and the common good.

There ARE things going on ... all over town ... and eventually the balance will shift and we'll move towards peace again. Hopefully every parishioner wants to be part of that change.

Peace and All Good!

Queridos amigos:

¡Paz y Todo Bien!

Making a Positive Difference

In response to Mother Carmen’s (the Mother Superior) request for help, the Stewardship Committee voted to send the 5th Sunday collection from November 30, 2008 to the Monasterio de Nuestra Señora de la Caridad del Cobre, monastery and convent, in Tangancícuaro, Michoacan to assist with the refurbishing of that badly water-damaged convent. On August 11, 2010, Sacred Heart parishioner Julia Orozco attended the bene-diction of the Convent’s newly refurbished Chapel conducted by the local Bishop.

The completion of this first phase in that convent’s reconstruction is very worthy of rec-ognition of Sacred Heart Parish’s charitable efforts and cause for our celebration. How-ever, the Clarissa Sisters continue to need our help as they now attempt to upgrade the badly damaged kitchen and replace the broken down appliances that they must have in order to continue making the eggnog, cookies, cajeta, and other delectables that they sell to earn their livelihood.

The Stewardship Committee will be considering awarding them additional 5th Sunday support to help with their present needs. Please contact Julia Orozco (424-5419) if you would like to learn more (or to see additional pictures!) about this very worthy project.

CRS is also hiring residents in cash-for-work programs to restore clean drinking water by rebuilding water supply systems.
