INDUGRAFF OFFSET

Dear ReadersA huge thank you to the many people who have already congratu-lated me on the recent appointment of being the official media part-ner of "EMAUS" I was overwhelmed with text messages and callsthis week after the news broke out. My thanks also to BluTelecommunications for their support and sponsorship in the part-nership. Together with support for the events from Terra Mitica,Mudomar and Aqualandia.

The heat wave here in Spain recently reported temperatures reach-ing in excess of 40 degrees and is set to last for the remainder ofthis week. The last time that these high temperatures were experi-enced to last for such a long period was in 2003, an episode thatlasted 16 days. I must say I have found it very hot indeed and some-times just too hot to be able to do much at all. Sleeping in the heatcan also be a nightmare, well that's if you can actually get off tosleep. Keeping the doors and windows open really is not helping sokeeping them closed at least helps with keeping the Mosquitos out.I use those plug in repellents but sometimes I think the little devilsare immune and still carry on their fun biting me throughout thenight. So what makes it all worth it? Is it just the fact we Brits just liketo moan a lot..... I don't know I'm really trying not to moan it justseems to be in our nature and without thinking, we are saying thesame old things over and over "it's too hot" so let all try and changeour habit and see how long we can last without moaning about theweather. Possibly a few hours, days?? Text me or write an emailtelling me how long you managed it for... [email protected] ortext 634310665

Alicante Airport DropOff Clamp Down

The new short stay, pick up/drop-off area has now beenimplemented at Alicante-Elche Airport. The area which issituated on the upper most level of the airport has beenabused for many years with the rules not being heavilyenforced. The area is meant for departures where peoplemay only need to quickly stop for5 minutes to unload passengersand luggage however many peo-ple use it for arrivals with somecars parking for hours.

For those who have abused the 5minute drop off period, you will nolonger to be able to continue asbarriers have been installed inwhich you take a ticket to enter, which will then allow you to park inone of the 80 allocated bays.

The first 15 minutes will be free giving time for people tooffload difficult luggage, and say their goodbyesthen you just have to insert the ticket into one ofthe pay machines – located in front of the parkingbays which will then activate your ticket so you canleave the area, however if you stay longer than 15minutes but no more than 30 then there will be acharge of €1 which isn’t so bad, this may be handy

for people who maybe travelling with people who havedisabilities or wish to accompany people to the start ofthe security area. So what happens after 30 minutes, welllet’s say you don’t want to push your luck or you will bepunished with €18 charge which you will have to cough

up if you want to leave.

This crackdown has cost over116,000 euros with its main goalto encourage people to use themulti storey car park which linksto the arrivals level so you canmeet friends and family in the ter-minal.

There are also number platerecognition cameras which ismusic to the ears of taxi drivers

who are still battling with people offering airport runs ille-gally.

But that’s as far as tradition goes withthe latest wine turning heads in Spain,GiK, which is not white, nor red, norrose. It is in fact bright blue.

The country’s first blue vino has beendeveloped by a group of six entrepre-neurs in El Bierzo, Leon, who betweenthem have absolutely zero pastexperience of traditional winemak-ing.

The aim was to cre-ate a wine thatwas notfocussed onthe tastesand prefer-ences of so-called con-noisseurs, butrather normal, cre-ative and daringpeople.

“We wanted to cre-ate a sweet anddrinkable product, intune with the changing worldwhere maybe the wine industryneeds a little revolution,” said aspokesman.

Two years of research in collaborationwith the University of the Basque Countrywent into creating the final product, which

undergoes a chemical process tochange the colour and flavour.

Unlike traditional wines, GiK hasno rules. It can be drunk at anytime of day, in any way and withany or no food.

THE PROCESS

GiK is producedthrough a pigmenta-tion process. Atfirst a base is cre-ated from a mix-ture of white and

red grapes,which is

thenaddedto two

labora-tory-

formed pig-ments;antho-cyanin and

indigo.

The last step is tosoften the wine using non-calorific sweet-eners.

It is now being produced and bottled invarious wineries across Spain, and canbe purchased online at www.gik.blue

Spain Officially Raises Age of Marriage & Consent

SPANIARDS younger than 16 will nolonger be permitted to wed, underthe newly approved VoluntaryJurisdiction Act.

In the past, Spain has allowed 14and 15-year-olds to marry with per-mission from a judge, while 16- and17-year-olds have been able tomarry with parental consent.

With the new law, 16 and 17 yearolds can still marry with permissionfrom a parent or judge. Over the ageof 18, anyone can marry.

The change comes after years ofpressure from children’s rightsgroups including the United Nations

Committee on the Rights of theChild.

New legislation has now officiallyraised Spain’s legal age of consentfrom 13 — the lowest in theEuropean Union — to 16 this is afterSpain's parliamentary justice com-mission approved the new law earlierthis year t which was then passedalong to the Senate for debate towhich we have this result.

In the first half of 2014, four girls andfour boys got married in Spain aged14, and a further nine girls and eightboys wed at 15.

This is a significant increase from

2013, when only one 14-year-old girland one 15-year-old boy were mar-ried.

Supporters of the changes expectthat higher minimum ages of mar-riage and consent will help preventthe exploitation of minors particularlygirls by adults.

Britons who are thinking of moving toSpain and are receiving benefitsshould remember to tell the authori-ties before finalising their plans.Failure to do so may well result in acriminal offence, warns theDepartment for Work and Pensions.

With the current strength of thepound against the euro, more andmore Britons are interested in buyinga property abroad, and Spain is oneof the most popular destinations ofchoice.

But if you receive a UK benefit, alongwith packing your sun cream and for-warding your mail, telling your bene-fit office you are moving should be atthe top of your "to do" list. Reportinga change in your circumstances suchas moving abroad or buying a prop-erty is your responsibility. By failingto do so you could be committingbenefit fraud, even if you do not livein Spain but have property here.

One fraudster who failed to report achange in circumstances is DeanStuart Ahmed from Cardiff, who after

claiming benefits since 1997 had notonly purchased luxury properties inMurcia, Spain and South Wales butalso rented them out to make a profit.Presenting himself as a single dis-abled person Mr Ahmed had, over 15years, accumulated a large collectionof property and assets. In Septemberlast year he was sentenced to twoyears and eight months in prison andhis properties and assets wereseized.

With large numbers of Britons mov-ing to and living in Spain, theDepartment for Work and Pensionshas a dedicated team in the countryto investigate benefit fraud abroadand make sure UK taxpayers' moneyis not being abused.

More than seven million pounds hasso far been recovered from Britishbenefit thieves living here. Much ofthis success is thanks to the free hot-line which members of the public cancall anonymously to report suspect-ed benefit thieves. Important detailswhich can help the team track downa fraudster include the suspect's

name and address both in Spain andin the UK.

If you know someone who you sus-pect is committing benefit fraud inSpain, please call the free andanonymous hotline on 900 55 44 40.The lines are open Monday to Fridayfrom 8am to 4pm. You will be doingyour bit to make sure that benefits –which is money that comes from tax-payers - goes to the people who real-ly need it.

A Valencian town is living up to it’s Spanish tra-dition sby enforcing a afternoon curfew! Thelaw is to ensure each citizen has the right toenjoy an afternoon kip and cut the risk of heat-stroke during the summer months.

The 1,400 inhabitants of Ador, have been toldto stay inside between the hours of 2pm to 5pmeach day in silence, so they can sleep.

A town hall spokesman told press that"Everything closes between 2pm and5pm,"Bars, shops, the swimming pool, every-thing."

Televisions and music must be turned down oroff and children are included in the afternooncurfew.

"Children should stay indoors between 2pm and 5pm sothat they do not go outside and play with balls and disturbolder people, stated the spokesman

There is a long tradition of taking an afternoon siesta inAdor, stemming from the town's agricultural history:

"Many people here work in the countryside, so it’s veryusual to take a long lunch break and have a siesta aftereating."

It is well-known that taking an afternoon siesta is good foryou and it was even scientifically proven in early 2015.

Now it seems that Ador, which is located between Gandiaand Denia is the first town in Spain to actually make tak-ing a siesta obligatory by law.

The people of Ador have proudly carried on the practice, cementing the summer tradition into a town custom thatthey hope to preserve for generations of future nappers.

Lifeguard Drones toPatrol Spanish Beaches

A new scheme in Spanish resorts maysee drone lifeguards patrolling beachesand going to the aid of stricken bathers.

The dronest are equipped with rubberfloats to drop into the water and can reachpeople having difficulties in thewater faster than their humanequivalents.

The idea is being tested in var-ious resorts around Spain thisweek, sponsored by VodafoneOne they are designed toreduce the estimated 400drownings that occur off Spanish beacheseach year.

The drones, which are equipped with

cameras are operated from the shore andcould save vital minutes in coming to theaid of those in distress."As soon as there is a sighting of some-one in difficulty in the water, both thedrone and the lifeguard will head towards

the sea. Arriving first thedrone will deliver a life-saving ring buying valu-able time for the life-guard to reach the swim-mer in distress and savea life," a spokesmanfrom the project toldnational media.

"It shows how such technology can savelives; a lifeguard takes triple the time as adrone to reach a swimmer in distress."

EMAUS, is designated by Social Welfare to care for and pro-tect victims of domestic violence through their aid programs,

here is a letter from a child to his father:Daddy... When you return home tonight, you'll find it empty. Somepeople came tonight from theValencianan Department of SocialWelfare, they were called by ourneighbours, and they have taken usto a house where we have been wel-comed with open arms – it is full offriendly people. Because we left insuch a rush we did not manage tobring any clothes with us, they havetold us not to worry, they will provideus with some. They have also saidthat I am going to attend school witha backpack full of materials neededfor my school year.

There are other children here whoare roughly my age; they all seemhappy, and they were playing with aman – they were not afraid, they sayhe is a "very cool guy" who takesthem to school, he accompaniesthem to the doctor when they needone – he even accompanies theirmummies too -because every childin this house lives with their mum-mies – he is there every morningtoo, to help give all the children theirbreakfast before going to school...

There is a lady here Daddy, she isyoung and has a very beautifulsmile. Her eyes are filled with loveand she asks me lots of questions. She is very friendly. The other chil-dren here have told me that, thanksto her, they are happier. She has ajob with a very strange name: 'psy-chologist'. I do not know what thatis, but I like her; well, I like all work-ers here in this home, they are sokind to us!

Mummy was embarrassed & uneasyto be here at first, so many peopleliving together and so friendly toeach other was a new experiencefor her and she was surprised at thekindness shown to her by everyone. We have been shown to our room, itis very large & clean, with our ownbathroom and a window overlookinga beautiful garden. I can hear bird-song coming from the trees.

This will be our home for a whileDaddy. Here we will look after and

protect each other; Mummy is alsogoing to adult college, so that she

can learn a trade; then when weleave here she will hopefully find ajob that allows us to support our-selves.

Of course, before all this, we mustheal our wounds, outside and inside.

I did not know that I also havewounds inside, the lady with the kindeyes told me that in no time at all Iwill be able to stay dry, and nolonger wet myself if I am anxious orscared, she said that this was one ofmy inside wounds and it was nothingto be ashamed of.

In this home we all dine together. Isit at a table with the other children, and Mummy sits with the otherMummies and social educators. I'mlearning new words Daddy –'socialeducators'- we have eaten a verygood soup and then we had batteredfish with chips, and custard fordessert.

I know you will now be alone Daddy, but tonight - we will not be afraid.

Our room is warm & cosy, and weare now in bed as it has been a veryintense day.

I cannot tell you where we are livingDaddy, it is for safety reasons. But ...I know that it is one of the centersthat EMAUS has in order to helppeople like us.

EMAUS, is designated by SocialWelfare to care for and protect vic-tims of domestic violence throughtheir aid programs.

So many new words for me Daddy!I'm tired now Daddy, goodbye.

The Dept. of Water Cyclefrom the City of Altea hasreleased a statement call-ing on the residents tomake a "responsible use ofthe water" due to the"extreme drought alert" inthe region.

For this reason, the coun-cilor of Water Cycle, RoqueFerrer, has asked resi-dents and tourists to avoid"at all costs" the use ofdrinking water for "usesthat are not basic"; such asfilling swimming pools orthe washing of vehicles.

This press release came afew days after the supplyproblems became public inthe urbanization Mimosas,a residential area of theSierra de Altea.

Ferrer acknowledged lastweek that Altea’s networkof water transport "is notoptimized for periods ofextreme drought", whichhas led to the town to haveto buy water to theConsortium of the MarinaBaixa instead of using theirown wells.

Meanwhile, the reservoirsof the region remain belowminimal levels. Accordingto the data of the JucarH y d r o g r a p h i cConfederation (CHJ) thereservoir of Guadalest ison 19.19 % of its capacity, with 2.49 hm3 of water. Orwe could say it equals tohalf of the amount of waterthat the CHJ to was sup-posed to have to ensurethe supply of the region.

Entrepreneurs Juan Ferri and JoséBaldo, imprisoned for being accusedfor the diversion of funds from theformer Bancaja to Switzerland andAndorra, have recently added a newhotel to their hotel group Marconfortbased in Benidorm. The hoteliers gothold on Altea Hills for twelve millioneuros, a complex of a hundredrooms, built under the brand SH bythe entrepreneur Andrew Ballester, but which had been divested by theproperty developers.

of the purchase took place in Madridweeks before both entrepreneursentered prison the 2nd July of thisyear.

The Altea Hills hotel, located on thesteep climb between Altea andCalpe, was Ballester’s first luxuryhotel but was soon overshadowed bythe Villa Gadea hotel, the Melia andthe french Pierre Vacances. At theend of 2014 it returned to SH andnow it’s part of the estate of theMarconfort group, with several hotelsin Benidorm. The businessmen John Ferri andJosé Baldo have been locked up in

the prison of Soto del Real, Madrid, since earlier this month, after havingbeen accused by the judge JuanPablo Gonzalez and after havinggiven their testimony on the pieces ofevidence that investigate the fund-ing, which the entrepreneurs weregiven by Bancaja and Banco deValencia to set up a business inMexico.

A case in which, together with thehoteliers, others were arrested, suchas the former president of theGeneralitat and the highest responsi-ble for both entities, José LuisOlivas, and the former executives

A Birmingham man accused oftrying to smuggle more than£800,000 worth of cannabis intoNorthern Ireland in pallets oforange juice must remain in cus-tody, a High Court judge ruledtoday.

Stephen Dainty, who used tomanage Britannia Foods inBenidorm, was caught in April2015 with hashish worth around€1 million found packagedamongst orange juice cartons

stacked onto a pallet in a whitevan.

Now refused bail in NorthernIreland under suspicion ofimporting 167 kilogrammes ofhashish from Spain.

Bail has been refused at everyapplication as Mr Dainty alleged-ly has connections to internation-al drug traffickers and wouldabscond if allowed out onrelease.

Mr Justice Maguire of the HighCourt in Northern Ireland said itwas clear this was "a caseinvolving organised crime," andthat Mr Dainty would likely re-offend if released on bail.

The consignment of drugs wastracked from Spain throughBritain to a house in Camlough inSouth Armagh, Ireland. Daintywas arrested along with threeother men in April 2015 ChrisConnaughton, 36 of Enniscorthy

in Ireland; Mark Fleetwood, 51,of Hall Green in Birmingham and62-year-old Paul Green alsofrom Birmingham.

Mr Dainty's house in Birminghamwas subsequently raided anddocuments allegedly relating tothe shipping of the drugs werediscovered. A lawyer for MrConnaughton, in whose van thedrugs were found, said his clientwas the "least-part player" andhad merely agreed to collect

unknown items using his van fora "200 euros cash in hand job".

CALPE

It is worth visiting Calpe even if onlyto look at the emblematic buildingsof the La Manzanera housing devel-opment. Designed in the 60’s and70’s by the architect Ricardo Bofill, the buildings represent a desire tomake buildings blend into their natu-ral surroundings. Since last summer,Calpe Town Council is taking a stepforward to protect this architecturaldevelopment, La Manzanera SocialClub, the Xanadú buildings and theMuralla Roja, declared Heritage ofCultural Interest. The project to revi-talize the urbanization of theManzanera, now open to the public, retrieves the Social Club. And itdoes so without changing a singleline of the design of Bofill.

In 1962, Ricardo Bofill’sArchitectural Design Studio beganto design a master plan to build atourist complex in Calpe, lookin out

to the Rock of Ifach (Peñón deIfach). The plan itself was similar toother already existing residentialcomplexes on the SpanishMediterranean coast, however itwas based around the idea of inte-grating buildings into the landscape.Design and construction were com-missioned tothe studio inphases; con-domin iums ,apartments,single-familyresidences, asmall hotel, abar, restau-rants andsports facili-ties.The uniquecharacter is-tics of thel a n d s c a p e ,

formed by stone terraces and plots, which are largely man made, thenatural formation of the valley’samphitheatre, and the expressdesire to formally create, were thebasic determining factors involved intransforming the landscape in anintegrated manner.

The Red Cross of Xabia had to rescue aman last Friday morning from the Cala delTango. The 49 year old man, had beenplunged into a rocky area of the covewhich was difficult to access by land. When the lifeguards arrived to the spotthey found the man covered with superfi-cial minor wounds. They immediately pro-ceeded to the evacuation of the man byboat and took him back to the green light-house.Once there, they were awaited by anambulance, whose staff took care of thevictim and cured his wounds. Despite thebruises, the man was in a perfect state ofhealth. The Cruz Roja de Jávea (Javea’s RedCross) wanted to take this opportunity torecommend "the bathers or hikers to swimand climb with cautiousness, especially inrocky places for it can be extremely dan-gerous". They also remind us of the pre-vention tasks offered by the staff in orderto prevent accidents that normally take

place during the summer period, such assunstrokes, sunburn, heat strokes, coldshock response or injuries produced byunderwater animals.

INDOOR SWIMMINGPOOL REVIVAL

Back in 2005 a proposalwas drawn up for sportsfacilities which includedthe construction of anindoor swimming pool.

However the plans wereput on hold after theMunicipal council at thetime opted to builed a ‘trin-

quet’ which is the specialcourt for the traditionalhandball sport of ‘pilota’which has been in opera-tion since 2010.

Mayor Jose Chulvi statedthat the proposal has hopeof revival and felt that therewas a good possibility that

the funds to build to poolwill be approved afterchanges to the local gov-ernment in Valencia. The pool originally wasestimated to cost €5 mil-lioneuros but the Mayor‘Chulvi’ said that theywould be looking at cuttingcosts where possible.

These little beauties are absolutely delicious if I dosay so myself. We've all been there: the poundingheadache of a hangover, the groggy nausea of an upsettummy, the throbbing rage of a stressful day at work. There are some challenges in life whose only resolutioncomes from a drive-thru window. Thus, in homage to theholistic powers of fast food, I've recreated the miracleelixir known only as "The Burger Sauce" It's remarkablyeasy to bring the quintessential flavor of a fast foodburger to your own barbecue. This sauce is obviously arock star on a burger, but it could also be used to ele-vate other meals such as grilled chicken, steaks or evenfish. Here I have made Slider style mini burgers but youcan also make big boys too!

IngredientsNumber of servings: 4For the Burger• 200g ground sirloin• 200g ground rump• 200g sharp mature cheddar cheese ( sliced )• 8 rashers of bacon • 2 level teaspoons of salt• pepper to taste • 8 pretzel buns ( or whatever you have to hand )• 1 romana lettuce • 2 ripe tomatoes• 50g melted butter for brishing• large bowl with ice and water

For the Sauce• 6 tablespoons of mayonnaise • 4 tablespoons of crème fraiche ( or greek yogurt ) • 2 tablespoons of finely grated onion ( juice squeezedout and discarded)• 2 tablespoons of chopped fresh tarragon • 1 tablespoon of fresh chopped parsley• 1 tablespoon of cider vinegar or white wine winger • 1 teaspoon of worcestershire sauce• 1 teaspoon of horseradish • Salt and pepper to taste

Method• In a medium bowl, whisk the mayonnaise with thecrème fraiche, cider vinegar, onion, parsley, tarragonand Worcestershire sauce and horseradish. Seasonwith salt and pepper to taste then cover and refrigerate.

• Grill the bacon over moderately high heat, turningonce, until crisp, about 6 minutes. Then leave to rest onthe warming rack.

• Fill a large bowl with ice water. Gently mix the groundrump with the ground sirloin, salt and pepper. Form themeat into eight 8-cm burgers, about 2cm thick.Submerge the burgers in the cold water and let soak for30 seconds. Immediately transfer the burgers to the grilland brush with some of the melted butter. Grill over highheat for 9 minutes for medium-rare meat, turning onceor twice and brushing occasionally with butter, whatchout for flare-ups. Top the burgers with the cheese duringthe last minute of grilling and let melt, now is when youcan also toast up your buns if you wish.

• Spread the tarragon dressing on the top buns. Set thecheesy burgers with the crispy bacon on the bottomhalve, top with lettuce and sliced tomatoes, then closethe burgers and serve right away. Enjoy!

“Hidden gem”Reviewed 30 June 2015Stumbled upon this nice little restaurant/bar strolling throughthe Old town. Just wanted a salad so opted for the chickentikka salad. My wife opted for a burger. Very tasty non greasyfood in a spotless environment. Great prices too.

“Food in the evening is most welcome”Reviewed 20 June 2015The new evening menu at Bar domino is very good, there arelots of restaurants in the area doing 3 course dinners howeverthis was something different whence you want a lighter meal.Andrew was the perfect host, serving drinks, taking orders andcooking the food with a friendly professional disposition withnot too long a wait. I had the Jumbo hot dog sausage withplenty of chips and it was not like a hot dog you get from avan, this was something extra special and I would defiantly goback and have another. The bar has a nice ambience with some good English telly on,but not too loud so you can still chat to your friends.

Restaurante SietelunasCalle Dr. Fleming 17, 03710, Calpe

“Enjoyment”Reviewed 12 July 2015Dress smart casual as the restaurant dictates it by its decor ,the service is excellent always with a smile. We had dinner which one dish was of fish and the other of asteak, both were cooked to a high standard, the wine was of agood quality, although not cheap to dine , the price was worthit, you can take coffee and a brandy on the tables outside onthe pavement it wanted, and an ashtray is there for smokers.

Reviewed 8 July 2015Reviewed 8 July 2015We visit this restaurant whenever we are in Calpe, the wel-come, the service, the food are all excellent. “Excellent meal”Reviewed 28 June 2015Great food at a fairly decent price in a lovely setting. Servicewas a little slow when we requested the bill at the end, however, the restaurant was pretty busy by this time.I recommend dining early around 7.30pm and booking yourtable. We had menu del dial which was great value in this topnotch restaurant.

“Make the effort and visit thisrestaurant”

Reviewed 21 June 2015We had read the reviews of this restaurant before we arrived inCalpe and we were not disappointed. Rather than try someother place we were so happy that we went back there for sev-eral nights during our stay. We eat early, around 7pm and whenwe called the first night the place was quiet at that point butbegan to fill in shortly afterwards. We just wanted a maincourse and while my wife varied her choice each night, I didn't.Try their spare ribs as a main course, you won't be disappoint-ed. My wife had the cod one night, the Cajun chicken and onanother visit had the Salmon, all were excellent. We werepleasantly surprised when we asked for the bill as there was afurther treat in store for us, not fair to spoil the experience onothers here but we felt it was a lovely touch to end a gorgeousmeal. Make the effort and go there, their menu is varied andwell priced for the quality of the meal. The hostess / owner is tobe complemented for her attention to her customers. Would goback any time but don't intend going to Calpe for a while atleast.

ARIES (March 21st-April 20th)

You’re in a happy go lucky frame of mind this week and that will be evident ineverything you say and do, so others will be happy to be around you. Let workslide a bit, and enjoy being with the people you love, especially if they’ve trav-elled a great distance to see you.

TAURUS (April 21st-May 21st)

Your communication skills are second to none, and the things you say and theway you say them will have everyone sitting up and taking notice of your quiet, calm yet confident demeanour. Home and family mean the world to you andyou’re glad to reinforce the love you feel.

GEMINI (May 22nd-June 21st)

You can no longer procrastinate over major decisions you have to make, so bitethe bullet and jump right in. Once you’ve got that particular ball rolling, everythingelse will fall into place, so follow your heart. Keep a low profile over the weekend. You need to recharge.

CANCER (June 22nd-July 23rd)

Minor challenges and confrontations at work seem to be the theme of this week,so you’ll need to bluff and double bluff with whoever is attacking you, to ensureyou keep people on your side. There’s more than one way to skin a cat, so trustour intuition to lead you.

LEO (July 24th-August 23rd)

You’re bolder than you’ve been in a while and you want to make some sweepingchanges across the board, whish is all well and good as long as the risks you’reabout to take are calculated ones. Are they? If singing official documents read allthe small print very carefully.

VIRGO (August 24th-September 23rd)

The lunar high boosts your confidence and helps you get others onto your way ofthinking. There’s a lot going on in work and play, but you know how to pace your-self, so don’t panic. Don’t be too quick to judge the actions of friends, but be flex-ible and suggest alternatives.

LIBRA (September 24th-October 23rd)

Use your energy and optimism to its best advantage on the work front this weekand you’ll be amazed at what you can achieve. Money matters still need a bit oftweaking, but the lunar high mid week gives you a confidence boost and youwont allow anything to hold you back..

SCORPIO (October 24th-November 22nd)

Professional trends are confusing, as one minute others are backing you to thehilt, then in the next breath they’re leaving you in limbo and saying they’ll getback to you. Maybe it’s time to take matters into your own hands. You hate allthis procrastination, so be bold and make a decision.

SAGITTARIUS (November 23rd-December 21st)

Thinking of going on a short journey or even a holiday? All signs point to yes, sobe prepared to be up and off in the blink of an eye. It’s a week where everythingwill start to pan out more productively, so let you of any tension you’ve been car-rying around and start to enjoy life.

CAPRICORN (December 22nd-January 20th)

If emotional issues have to be dealt with, then stop sweeping them under the car-pet and face them head on. That’s your usual approach, so why have you heldback this time? Rely on your intuition to guide you as it won’t let you put a footwrong. Time to clear the decks.

AQUARIUS (January 21st-February 19th)

Everyone knows you’re more than capable in a professional sense, but whatabout your one to one partnerships? How are they going? If not too well, it maybe time to focus more on what’s going on behind closed doors in the bedroomnot the boardroom. Focus on love and passion.

PISCES (February 20th-March 20th)

Keep all expectations at a realistic level and you won’t be too disappointed ifthings don’t quite pan out the way you’d envisaged. That’s not to say you’re set-tling for second best, you’re not, but if you don’t aim too high you wont lose sleepif things don’t work out perfectly.

The Latest BUZZ from the Motoring World

Peugeot 308 GT 2015 ReviewThe sporty version of the 308 getschanges such as the Peugeot lionemblem moved from the bonnet’s leadingedge to the front grille, with three horizon-tal blades on either side. For optimumvision in all circumstances, the 308 GThas been fitted with top-of-the-rangeheadlights made up of 62 LEDs.

Ride height has been lowered by 7mm atthe front and 10mm at the rear for a moredynamic drive. The revised suspension ismated to a choice of high-performanceengines, one petrol and one diesel, thatalready meet stringent Euro 6 emissionsstandards.

The four-cylinder 1.6-litre THP 205Stop&Start petrol engine is specified witha six-speed manual gearbox to make themost of its 285Nm of torque, availablebetween 1750 and 4500rpm. CO2 is130g/km and official economy 50.4mpg.

Alongside this is a 2.0-litre BlueHDi. Itdelivers its maximum power of 180PS at3750rpm and its maximum torque of400Nm at 2000rpm. CO2emissions are103g/km, equal to fuel consumption of70.6 mpg.

The previous Peugeot 308, much like the307 before it, was an also-ran in what isan extremely competitive market. The

family hatchback is a UK staple, with theVolkswagen Golf, Ford Focus andVauxhall Astra ever present in the top 10sales charts.

The current Peugeot 308 aims to changeall of that and it got off to a good start bywinning the 2014 European Car of theYear award. The GT specification isdesigned as the embodiment of what thecar is supposed to be - classy, quality, sporty, imposing, stuffed with high-techequipment – and with a price to match.

The GT range is simple: two engines, twotransmissions, two body styles. There aretwo five-door hatchback choices - onewith a 205PS 1.6-litre turbo petrol enginelinked to a six-speed manual transmis-sion, and the other with a 180PS 2.0-litrediesel and a six-speed automatic. The308 SW GT choice is even simpler – achoice of exactly one, with the diesel-automatic drivetrain the sole option.

Both engines are quick, naturally - 7.5seconds to 62mph for the petrol, 8.4 sec-onds for the diesel - plus they're econom-

ical, though the character of the GT ismore along the ‘warm hatch’ line thangenuine hot stuff. And that’s fine byPeugeot – it sees the 308 GT as more arival to the Kia Cee’d GT and SEAT LeonFR, rather than the Volkswagen Golf GTIand Ford Focus ST.

The problem is, it’s more expensive thanmuch of what it competes with. More thanthe larger and more powerful SkodaOctavia vRS, for example, and way abovewhat SEAT would charge for a (albeitslightly lesser powered) higher trim LeonFR.

The Peugeot also suffers from some han-dling issues, notably in the corners as thesoft suspension struggles to cope withextra horsepower. As a result the 308 GTis unlikely to hold much appeal to enthusi-asts.

Yet despite its limitations, the 308 GT isstill a likable and comfortable warm hatch. The cabin is refined, quiet and a bigimprovement over the previous 308, whilethe high-tech spec will make it an appeal-ing choice for company car drivers. TheGT is also cheap to run, with the dieselemitting 103g/km and returning 70.6mpg.The petrol isn't bad either, with 130g/kmand up to 50.4mpg.

PREGNANCY & ASTHMAThe effect of pregnancy on womenwho have asthma is unpre-dictable.

Around one-third of pregnant womenwill see an improvement; one-thirdwill see no change and unfortunatelyone-third will experience a worseningof their symptoms.

When a woman with asthma findsout she is pregnant she should makean appointment to see a Midwife assoon as possible. The Midwife willliaise with the woman’s G.P. toensure that her asthma is kept undercontrol. This is vital during pregnan-cy. Uncontrolled asthma puts boththe mother and the developing babyat risk.

Many pregnant women sufferfrom acid reflux which occurs whenstomach acid leaks back up into theoesophagus (gullet). This tends tomake asthma worse.

If a woman attends any preparationfor childbirth classes that are notgiven by her known Midwife, sheshould ensure that the courseinstructor

is aware that she is asthmatic. This isimportant as the severity of thewoman’s asthma will affect her suit-ability for certain breathing tech-niques in labour.

Whilst a pregnant woman can contin-ue to exercise and work normally, there are some steps that can betaken to try to prevent asthma fromgetting worse:

• avoid smoking (both active andpassive)• avoid allergic triggers such as petdander• avoid hay fever triggers such asmowing the lawnSigns that asthma may be gettingworse include:• a cough that is worse at night or inthe early morning• a cough during exercise • wheezing• breathlessness • tightness in the chest

A pregnant woman should see herMidwife or Doctor if she exhibits any

of the above symptoms or just gener-ally feels her asthma is gettingworse.

OUTDOOR EXERCISE IDEASFOR YOU AND YOUR DOG

Summer is here. Now is a great time to focus on the"Exercise" part of the fulfillment formula! Try newactivities, visit a new location, and enjoy the sun-shine and your dog's companionship.

No matter what physical activity you engage in, it is impor-tant to watch for signs of dehydration: lethargy, sunken orbloodshot eyes, dry gums, increased heart rate, pale-ness, and loss of skin elasticity. Make sure your dog hasaccess to clean, fresh water at all times!

Here are just a few activities to trywith your dog:

HikingHiking is a great way to make yourdaily walk more exciting and chal-lenging for your dog. Before you go,make sure the park is dog-friendly.Many outdoor parks and recre-ational hiking trails have restrictionson where you can take your dog

both on- and off-leash, and many National Parks don’tallow them on hiking trails at all. While on your hike, doyour part to keep the park safe and pleasant for others:clean up after your dog!

Safety tips:• Hiking can be hard work, so be sure your dog is physi-cally up to the task. If you have any doubts, contact yourveterinarian.• Remember, particularly in the summer months, youshould always carry water with you and watch for signs ofdehydration.• If you are going on a long hike, you may want to bringa small first aid kit with you, just in case.• Be aware that your dog has tender paws, so try to avoidrough terrain, such as sharp rocks or dense underbrush.• Be sure to use precautions against ticks and fleas, andcheck your dog when you gethome.Consider inviting other friendsand their balanced dogsalong. A group hike is saferand more fun!

SwimmingThe summer months are theperfect time to take a dip withyour canine companion.Swimming not only providesexercise and a great bondingexperience, it also providesrelief from the heat! Utilize

your private pool, find a dog-friendly (and dog-safe!)fresh-water lake nearby, or invest in a kiddie pool for yourbackyard.

Safety tips:• Always supervise your dog. You can even find doggielife vests in most pet stores for some extra peace of mind!• If you are unsure how your dog will react to the water, make sure to bring him to a controlled environment first. An enclosed pool area can be great, and for smaller dogs, your bath tub can also provide a great training experi-ence.• Chemicals and dirt in the water can be harmful to yourdog's coat and health, so you should always give yourdog a bath after you return home. If there is a showerfacility at the pool or lake, you may even want to give hima good rinse before you leave.• Drying your dog’s ears after swimming can help preventear infections.Planning a trip to the ocean? Read our beach tips!

Safety tips:• Make sure that there are no hidden rocks or other dan-gerous obstacles in the area where your dog will jumpinto the water.• Your dog should be a strong and healthy swimmer toparticipate in this activity. Start small, and consult yourveterinarian if you have concerns.• Before considering joining a dock diving club, makesure your dog is well-adjusted and supervise his socialinteractions at all times!• Watch for signs of dehydration and over-exhaustion.Your dog can get so caught up in this fun activity that heloses track of his own well-being. Keep an eye on hisphysical health, and be sure to take frequent breaks torest in the shade and enjoy fresh water.

FetchThis classic game is a great sum-mer time activity. Put a twist on theactivity by using a Frisbee or tennisracquet to make the object travelfarther. Remember, smell is yourdog’s strongest sense, so get hisnose involved: give him a goodwhiff of the object before you throwit. You should be in charge of therules of the game, and decide whenthe activity starts and ends!

Safety tips:• Take frequent breaks and provideaccess to fresh water to prevent dehydration.• Make sure that what you throw for your dog isn’t dan-gerous or sharp.
