LEGACY PUBLIC SCHOOL
WEEKLY EBULLETIN FOR SEPTEMBER 27, 2013
VOLUNTEERING AT LEGACY We are thankful that we have many community members who volunteer at Legacy. This year we are working at ensuring the safety of our student, staff and community in aligning Legacy’s Volunteer Policy with the YRDSB Volunteers in Our School policy. According to Board Policy #280.0, any parent who volunteers in a York Region school must have a Vulnerable Sector Screening processed by the York Region Police. This can be obtained at its Community Resource Centre in Richmond Hill (Hillcrest Mall). The applicant must produce two pieces of government issued identification; one of which must have a photograph. The cost is $20. In each subsequent year, the volunteer can sign a Volunteer Annual Offence Declaration form at the school for no cost. We thank you for your understanding as we make the transition from our past practice to the new safety standard for volunteers. NUT FREE SCHOOL There are children in our school with severe peanut allergies. The students along with their families, would like to join me in thanking you for your understanding and co‐operation in not sending peanut and nut products to school. Since even a minute amount of the allergic substance can cause a life‐threatening reaction, keeping it out of the classroom is our best method of preventing a serious reaction at school.. Thank you again for your co‐operation in this important issue.
TERRY FOX FUNDRAISER On Tuesday, Legacy participated in the Terry Fox run. It was also the kickoff to our House Colours. The weather cooperated and it was a lovely afternoon to walk and to raise funds for the Cancer Society in remembrance of Terry and his wish for a donation of $1 from every Canadian. We are still accepting donations until the end of next week! SCHOOL COUNCIL We will be holding our first School Council Meeting on Monday, September 30th at 7:00‐8:30 in the library. At this meeting, we will be holding an election for Executive as well as voting members. I will also be sharing some of the observations I have made during the past month at Legacy and will begin to build a plan on how the council can support our students in our “Student Achievement” and “Student Well‐Being”. All parents are welcome to attend.
