The Palatine Chapel is the royal chapelof the Norman palace in Palermo, Sicily.Architecturally, it is a mixture of Byzantine,Norman and Fatimid styles, showing thetricultural state of Sicily during the 12th centuryafter Roger II's father and uncle conquered theisland. The chapel was commissioned by Roger IIof Sicily in 1132 to be built upon an older chapel(now the crypt) constructed around 1080. It tookeight years to build, with the mosaics being onlypartially finished by 1143. The muqarnas ceiling ofthe nave and the chapel's rectilinear form showthe Fatimid influence in the building'sconstruction.

Wednesdays Evening Activities -Join us on Wednesday evenings for a delicious meal at 5:15 pm ($5/person,$10/family), followed by our Celtic-Inspired Eucharist and Healing Serviceat 6:10 pm where we will commemorate a specific saint each week. Stewardship UpdateWe have received a solid number of pledges so far. For all of you who have gotten yourpledge information to us, by card or online, thank you very much! We have receivedmany pledges with increases, and a good number of new pledges. For all of you whohave yet to make your pledge, this is a friendly reminder that we need you. Got Baptism?The next traditional occasion for baptisms will be Sunday,January 12, the Feast of the Baptism of Christ. If you areinterested in baptism for yourself or for a child, or are curious,please contact Mtr. Anne or Fr. Andy to learn more.

Time to CelebrateSt. Paul’s is a vibrant and growing parish. Ministries, committees, and groups arechanging and expanding. If you are staff, chair or co-chair of a ministry, program orcommittee we want to know what wonderful things took place in 2019 and what isplanned for 2020. SPY UpdateRegularly scheduled SPY groups are taking a short break. Stay tuned for when theywill resume. Look for special events here in the bulletin announcements, in the weeklyemails and on Instagram!

Evensong: Gian Carlo Menotti's miracleoperetta "Amahl and the Night Visitors" will bestaged in the main church at St. Paul's on January 4 at7 p.m. and January 5 at 4 pm. There is no service ofEvensong.

This child-friendly 50-minute operetta tells the story of a poor crippled boy and hismother who greet the three kings on their way to meet the Christ child During the king'svisit the boy is healed and joins them on their quest. Two pianos and two oboesaccompany this music gift to the community of Salem. The church will be transformedinto a theater with lighting and special costumes. Mikaela Starr plays the part of Amahland Brooke Brooks plays the part of the mother. David Nelson, Barry Nelson and SeanBrooks take on the role of the three kings with Ray Phipps playing the part of the page.Written in 1951, "Amahl and the Night Visitors" was the first operetta to be broadcastlive on television. The performance is open to the public. Contributions at the door aregratefully accepted.
