Kindergarten Sept 25 th - Sept 29 th Weekly News This Week’s Focus Apples Literacy -Students will identify setting, characters, and major events in a text. -Students will ask and answer questions about key details in a text. Writing -Students will create a simple thought and remembering the sentence. -Students will listen for sounds and write the corresponding letter in the sentence. Math Compose (adding) and Decompose (subtracting) numbers to 5 Explore different ways to get 5. Example 4 and 1 makes 5, 2 and 3 makes 5, 4+1=5, 1+4=5, 5+0=5, 5-1=4) Tell one more and one less of a given number Science/S.S. -What are shadows? -What makes a shadow? -Students will design a shelter to make shade. Phonics -Segmenting by syllables Things to work on at home Writing name Counting by 10s to 100 Count by 1’s to 100 Recognizing numbers & letters Cutting & Holding pencil Identifying letters and their sounds Sight Words: can, see, the, to, I, is, a, like, color words Johnny Appleseed Day is Sept. 26 Fall Break Oct 9-13 Parent Teacher Conferences Oct 17 and 19 th (You will be assigned a time when it gets closer) Fall Festival Nov 3 – Basket Theme is “Crock Pot Fixings” Reminders Upcoming Events Please send one or two apples if you have not already. Choose from Red Delicious, Golden Delicious, and Granny Smith. We are doing an activity with them this week as we are learning about apples and Johnny Appleseed. All Money needs to come in an envelope labeled with child’s name and what the money is for. We do not have change so please send the exact amount.

-Students will ask and answer questions about

Writing -Students will create a simple thought and

remembering the sentence.

-Students will listen for sounds and write the

corresponding letter in the sentence.
