2019 YEAR 6 CATCH UP
Our 2019 Graduates Catch Up is fast approaching. We will be hosting our 2019 Year 6 students on Monday 16th March at
4pm in the Orange gallery space. Invites have been sent to all secondary schools that our students
attend along with the invite being posted on our Facebook page. We would love for all of our 2019
graduates to attend as it gives us a chance to hear how
our students have transitioned to Secondary school.
YEAR 3 CAMP
Our first camp of the year at Oasis Camp in Mount Evelyn was a huge success. Camps are a wonderful opportunity for students to develop resilience, rise to challenges, develop new friendships and even try new
foods. Spending three days with this group of students, I could not have been more proud of how our students
represented our school and our values. Students displayed respect to camp staff, EVPS staff and each other at all times. The students had opportunities to
soar down the flying fox, a number of epic bush walks, be their best version of Robin Hood at archery and
interact with snakes, lizards, frogs and turtles in the reptile house. A new activity to the camp was laser
tag—with Kristian declaring that he was the laser tag champion. I want to take a moment to acknowledge the staff (Kaitlin, Leah, Stephanie, Con, Lauren, Adriana, Gary, Marc & Paola) who spent time away from their families and dedicated the last three days to be with
the campers.
Year 4 Camp (April) is up next, followed by Year 6 (May) and Year 5 (August). There are still places available for the Year 5 and 6 camps and we do
encourage parents to have their children participate in
the camping program.

WET DAYS
We had a very wet start to the day this morning.
Parents can be comforted by the fact that classrooms were open very early and students were able to come in out of the inclement weather. It is important on these days that you as guardians assist by talking to your children when dropping them off, about the need to
make good choices. Students that choose to go inside rather than gravitate to the puddles definitely had a
better start to the day!
EDGAR’S CREEK PRIMARY SCHOOL
A new school will be starting just around the corner in 2021. There is an opportunity for the local community to have their say in naming the new school. Please see
page 4 for details.
ATTENDANCE EXPECTATIONS
The Department of Education attendance policy requires students to be at school every day. Every day counts. If your child is consistently late 10 minutes
each day, this is 50 minutes a week, Over a year that’s 2000 minutes of lost instruction time. We open our
classrooms at 8:50am so that learning commences at 9:00am. Every minute counts. Through February we have had the following number of students in each
year level attend each day and be here ready for
learning at 9am:
Prep: 69 students
Year 1: 55 students
Year 2: 62 students
Year 3: 72 students
Year 4: 77 students
Year 5: 65 students
Year 6: 69 students
Please remember to advise us of absences via Compass
or at the office.
MONDAY PUBLIC HOLIDAY
A reminder that Monday is a public holiday (Labour Day). We hope families enjoy the long weekend and have an opportunity to get some family time in. The
extra day off provides students with a chance to refresh their batteries ready for the second half of Term
1.
School Mantras
Information from the Nurse
There has been a confirmed case of chicken pox in our school. If you child is showing any symptoms please see your Doctor.
1) Medication at school
Any student required to take medication at school will need to provide medicine in original packaging/ labelled with child's name and grade. Parent's or carer's will need to complete and
sign a "Medication Administration Form" available from the school office. This form is required for all medicine including antihistamine for hay-fever, pain relief
medicine, antibiotics, skin ointments, eye drops etc. and a new form for 2020 is required. This form is not needed for Ventolin for Asthma if a current Asthma Plan has been provided to
school.
2) Unwell children If your child is unwell with a temperature please keep them at home until resolved
If your child is vomiting they will need to be excluded from school for 24hrs after last episode If your child has diarrhoea they must be excluded from school until there has not been a loose
bowel motion for 24hrs.
3) Action and Management Plans All children with Asthma, Anaphylaxis, Diabetes, Epilepsy or other significant health issue will
need to supply a new Action/ Management Plan for 2020 signed by their doctor or paediatrician. Please ensure this is brought to the school office or the school nurse as soon as
possible. This will ensure we provide the best care possible for your child while they are at school.
Thank you for your support and cooperation. Please direct any questions to school nurses
Stacey Morris and Adriana Cargin.
Coronavirus UPDATE
INFORMATION FROM DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
The Australian Government has advised that there is no cause for alarm with respect to the
coronavirus and that the risk to the Australian public remains relatively low.
Everyone can protect against infections by practising good hand hygiene and respiratory hygiene. Cover your mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing with a tissue, or cough into your elbow,
dispose of the tissue into a bin and then wash your hands afterwards. Wash your hands
regularly, after using the toilet, and before eating.
Exclusion of well children or staff from school who have travelled to China, or any other areas where
there have been reported cases is NOT required, unless the following applies:
the person is a confirmed case of novel coronavirus; or
the person is a close contact with a confirmed case of novel coronavirus in the past 14 days.
Any family that has travelled overseas in these school holidays, we ask you to please advise the
office as soon as possible.
The latest recommendation from DET is: That parents/guardians/carers should ensure that any student returning from mainland China (not
including Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan) who was in mainland China on or after 1 February 2020 is
isolated at home and should not attend school until 14 days after they were last in mainland China.
This recommendation does not apply retrospectively. It applies only to students who were in
mainland China on or after 1 February 2020.
Our school Nurses, Stacey and Adriana, will be advising students and families on any additional medi-
cal advice required.

Want your say on the name of the new primary school in Wollert?
The Victorian School Building Authority is seeking community input into developing the name of
the new secondary school currently under construction and scheduled to open in 2021.
Edgars Creek Primary School (only an interim name) will open its doors to Year F -6 students in
2021 as part of the Government’s school building program that will see 100 new public schools
open over the next eight years.
You can forward any name suggestions to the Department of Education and Training’s North
Western Victoria Regional Office via email at [email protected] by Friday 27 March or
contact the office on 1300 338 691 to discuss.
A proposed name will be selected from a shortlist of potential names for formal consultation with
all surrounding schools and services before a recommendation is made to the Minister for Educa-
tion. School names can recognise and reflect culture, heritage and landscape and will be guid-
ed by the statutory requirements outlined in the Naming Rules for Places in Victoria.
If you would like further information about this new school and other school building projects you
can visit the Victorian School Building Authority webpage at www.schoolbuildings.vic.gov.au
