He will speak about “My ‘New Normal’: Dialysis and the Presence of Christ.” Several years ago, Jim conducted a set of discussions on the “New Normal: Living into the Elder Years.” Well, Jim has now had to learn how to practice what he preached, a salutary experience! He will share his experience in thanksgiving for the prayers sent his way. Fr. Jim has served in five churches in the Austin area and as a consultant to several other Austin churches. He has also led Centering Prayer sessions at our annual Men’s Retreat, providing a rich experience to those attend-ing. That we might estimate food quantities & setup, please RSVP to [email protected] or call or text Don Neely (512-507-5023). For more information on “Men’s Fellowship” programs visit: http://www.stmattsaustin.org/Serve/zministry-directory.html. Offshoots Small Groups

Offshoots small groups are a chance for parishioners to share our passions with one another and our neighbor. This initia-tive grows out of the idea that wherever Christians are present, the body of Christ is revealed. So have some fun with these groups, get to know your fellow parishioners, and invite a friend to “come and see” a little glimpse of the Kingdom. If you want to form your own Offshoot with support from church staff and clergy, email [email protected] and [email protected]. Once you have the okay from Fr. Christian, please email the group info to [email protected] for entry into the WW and website. Formation of groups is a rolling process throughout the year, so keep your ideas coming!

And the pantry is bare . . . It was thrilling to see the contributions of non-perishable food items you all made last week for the Caritas Food Pantry. Thank you to all of you who read last week’s Weekly Word so attentively. This week the pantry is completely out of:

Canned ham

Spaghetti sauce (in plastic container or cans)

Hamburger/Tuna Helper

Other items to consider bringing this week are: canned fruit, canned mixed vegetables, cereal, and oatmeal. You are of course welcome to bring anything you can spare. There is also an ongoing need for shaving cream and shampoo. If you’d like to make a donation of a $1 or more toward purchasing food items, please leave it in the money box on the table in the Caritas Corner of the Commons. Thank you as always for your generosity. Submitted by Jane Baxter Lynn
