Call to Worship (new each week)

Prayer of Confession (new each week)

Prayer for Illumination God of unending surprises, This life is a tapestry of moments woven together, and we long to be weavers of love. Today we gather and pray that you would unravel our bias. Unravel our assumptions. Unravel whatever it is that keeps us from you. And as you do, clear space in our hearts for your Word. We are listening. We are praying. Amen.

Hymn of the Day (new each week)

Affirmation of Faith I believe in God, the Great Sewer— Who weaves us together in community, Collecting our loose ends and turning them into belonging.

I believe in the Holy Spirit— Who hems us in before and behind, Catching us when we fall and writing us into God’s holy narrative.

Weeks 5-8

And I believe in Jesus Christ— Who loved and claimed the people society had thrown out, refusing to disregard anyone as scrap.

I believe God has woven part of God’s self into the fiber of our being, Making us inherently worthy of love and belonging.

I believe the fabric of my life is weak, That I am prone to error and need God’s handiwork to remind me of love.

I believe in the Church, and that like a quilt of different fabrics, She is designed to be as diverse and beautiful as God’s creation.

And I believe that when life unravels, God is there to stitch my wounds together, To hold me in the palm of God’s hand, to tell me of love, And to invite me into a new journey. Amen.

Prayers for Ourselves & Others After each prayer: Lord, in your mercy, Hear our prayer… Including prayer prompt for writing on strips of cloth. Mail prayer strips to: ONE in Christ Lutheran Parish, P.O. Box 27, Greenwood, WI 54337, drop off at your church or share prayer with Pastor Elizabeth.

Sharing Peace The peace of Christ be with you always. And also with you. Take a moment to share a greeting of peace with others in your household. You may also text a person right now to share peace with them or call them after our worship service has ended.

Communion w/Lord’s Prayer Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temp-tation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

If you are with others, serve one another saying: The body of Christ, given for you. The blood of Christ, shed for you.

If you are alone, hear the pastor’s words proclaiming the good news to you: This is the body of Christ, given for you. This is the blood of Christ, shed for you.

Hymn

Communion/Offering Prayer God of goodness and growth, all creation is yours, and your faithfulness is as firm as the heavens. Water and word, wine and bread: these are signs of your abundant grace. Nourish us through these gifts, that we might proclaim your steadfast love in our communities and in the world, through Jesus Christ, our strength and our song. Amen.

Offering Although we may not be gathered for worship in a church building, as people of God we are called together to continue strengthening the mission of the church. As a household, here are some ideas for living and sharing generously. • Write a card or letter to a grandparent, elder, shut-in or a resident

at the care center. • Take your sidewalk chalk and make fun drawings, create geomet-

ric stained glass, or write Bible passages or other kind sayings at your house, in town, at your church or a relative’s house.

• Share something you are grateful for or give/send a compliment to another person.

• Take a moment now to prepare a monetary gift to your congregation: in the mail—P.O. Box 27, Greenwood, WI 54437; or digitally, at www.oneinchristlutherans.com/give or the Vanco Give Plus app. You may also ask your bank to request "Bill Pay" to your congregation.

• Give a special additional gift to our Good Samaritan Fund, Luther Park Bible Camp, ELCA World Hunger, or Lutheran World Relief.

Milestones & Announcements

Blessing & Sending Neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus. God, the creator, + Jesus, the Christ, and the Holy Spirit, the comforter, bless you and keep you in eternal love. Amen.

Blest Be the Tie That Binds 1 Blest be the tie that binds our hearts in Christian love; the unity of heart and mind is like to that above.

2 Before our Father's throne we pour our ardent prayers; our fears, our hopes, our aims are

one, our comforts and our cares.

3 We share our mutual woes, our mutual burdens bear, and often for each other flows the sympathizing tear.

4 From sorrow, toil, and pain, and sin we shall be free; and perfect love and friendship

reign through all eternity.

Text: John Fawcett, 1740-1817, alt.

Hallelujah! We Sing Your Praises

Refrain: Hallelujah! We sing your praises, all our hearts are filled with gladness. Hallelujah! We sing your praises, all our hearts are filled with gladness. (x2)

Now he sends us all out, strong in faith, free of doubt. Strong in faith, free of doubt, tell to all the joyful gospel! (x2) Refrain

Open the Eyes of My Heart Michael W. Smith

Open the eyes of my heart, Lord Open the eyes of my heart I want to see You I want to see You (Repeat all the first time) To see You high and lifted up Shining in the light of Your glory Pour out Your power and love As we sing holy, holy, holy (Repeat the above again) Holy, holy, holy Holy, holy, holy Holy, holy, holy (I want to see you) I want to see you (Repeat) To see You high and lifted up Shining in the light of Your glory Pour out Your power and love As we sing holy, holy, holy (Repeat) Holy, holy, holy Holy, holy, holy Holy, holy, holy (I want to see you) I want to see you (Repeat a few times)

I Heard the Voice of Jesus Say

1 I heard the voice of Jesus say, "Come unto me and rest; lay down, O weary one, lay down your head upon my breast." I came to Jesus as I was, so weary, worn, and sad; I found in him a resting-place, and he has made me glad.

2 I heard the voice of Jesus say, "Behold, I freely give the living water, thirsty one; stoop down and drink and live."

I came to Jesus, and I drank of that life-giving stream; my thirst was quenched, my soul re-vived, and now I live in him.

3 I head the voice of Jesus say, "I am this dark world's light; look unto me, your morn shall rise, and all your day be bright." I looked to Jesus, and I found in him my star, my sun; and in that light of life I'll walk till trav'ling days are done.

UNRAVELED Week 5 July 12

Liturgy for Exodus 5:1-2; 7:8-23 Pharaoh Hardens His Heart to

Moses’ Requests (When Humans Unravel God’s Plans for Justice)

Outdoor Worship, 10am, Greenwood, George Scherer Athletic Park/Grassland Bandstand

(E Schofield Ave, behind Cenex)

Bring your worship bulletin, chairs, sunscreen & bug spray!

Call to Worship Listen. I have a story to tell— A story of a God who longed for justice. A story of a God who pushed back the waters to make dry land. A story of a God who would not take “no” for an answer when it came to the safety of God’s own. For God’s people were suffering. God’s people were crying out. God’s people were shackled and bound by oppression. So God said to Moses, “Speak.” “Let my people Go.” And Moses spoke—Over and over again. Moses stood up for justice, But over and over again, Pharaoh said no. Power said no. The path to justice is never easy, is it? The path to change is never a straight line, is it?

So like Rosa, who sat on the bus, and Martin who had a dream, Moses kept trying. God kept speaking. Moses kept listening. Hope kept breathing. And when power tried to unravel justice, The people kept dreaming.

God longed for justice. God still longs for justice. So let us worship God— For human injustice will never be strong enough to unravel God’s dream that all might be free, And all might know love. Let us worship holy God.

Hymn Come, Let Us Worship God call & response 1. Come, let us worship God. (x2)

Welcome everyone, to the love of God.

2. Food for the hungry… 3. Rest for the weary..

Prayer of Confession One: God, you have asked us to be like Moses— Standing up for your people, standing up for justice. All: But too often we are like Pharaoh— Holding onto power, or holding onto privilege. One: God, you ask us to be like Aaron— Who stood by his brother to unravel systems of oppression.

All: But too often we align with Pharaoh— Saying “no” to change and unraveling your vision for justice and peace. One: Forgive us for all the ways we stand on the wrong side of history. All: Forgive us for the harm we do to your planet, and for the harm we do to your children. One: Help us to be like Moses. All: Forgive us when we’re like Pharaoh. Amen.

UNRAVELED Week 6 July 19

Liturgy for Acts 9:1-20 The Conversion of Saul to Paul

(Discovering a New Path)

Call to Worship God of mystery, You called Ananias by name, and he responded, “Here I am.” You called Paul to the work of your Church, and he responded

By giving his life to your Word. Similarly, you call us into community and faith, So we respond with love and time, energy and hope. We respond with worship. Let us worship the God of transformation and grace. Amen.

Prayer of Confession

God of new life, What would we give to have you appear with a flash of light and a clear voice like you did for Saul? Maybe then, our doubts would disappear. Maybe then, we would live as you called us to live. However, when our lives depend on faith, we forget your surprising grace. Instead, we draw lines around enemies and friends, who’s in and who’s out. We see the “other,” faster than we see our “neighbor,” and refuse second chances.

Pull the scales from our eyes. Help us see as you see. Help us live as you live, and forgive us when we fail to. Humbly we pray, Amen

UNRAVELED Week 7 July 26

Liturgy for Jeremiah 29:1-7 Encouraging the Israelites in

Exile to Plant Gardens & Build Houses

(When Dreams Unravel)

Call to Worship

Sometimes life takes us where we don’t expect.

Sometimes, God takes us where we don’t expect.

In worship, we gather to get in touch with God’s bigger narrative.

In worship, we gather to expand our hearts.

So let us worship the God of unending surprises.

Let us worship the God of love.

Prayer of Confession Creator God,

Being faithful has never been easy.

You asked Noah to build a ship.

You asked the Israelites to plant gardens and build homes while in

exile. You asked the prophets to speak challenging truths.

You asked the disciples to drop their nets and follow you.

And you ask us to love bigger than society wants to.

Being faithful has never been easy, and as a result, we often miss

the mark. Forgive us for holding tightly to human-made plans.

Forgive us for the times we say no to you so that we can say yes to

ourselves. Unravel the grip we have on our agenda so that we can

make room for you. Gratefully we pray,

Amen.

UNRAVELED Week 8 August 2

Liturgy for John 4:1-29 The Samaritan Woman

at the Well

(Unraveled Shame) Outdoor Worship, 10am, Longwood Park,

bring a family picnic; no current plan for shared food.

NOTE: We currently plan to have the King’s Countrymen Bluegrass Gospel group with us using just the Unraveled worship order

(this liturgy will then move to August 9). If they have to cancel we will still have outdoor worship using this liturgy on Aug.2.

Remember your worship bulletin, chairs, sunscreen & bug spray!

Call to Worship We come here to draw water— Thirsty for new life. We come here to draw water— Bringing our past and our present, our messy truths and our deepest scars.

We come here to draw water— Carrying shame, and in need of grace. Fortunately for us, God always meets us at the well. So breathe deeply and drink up. God is here. The water is clean. Let us worship God.

Prayer of Confession Like the woman at the well, we so often are unraveled by shame. We carry shame for broken relationships. We carry shame for being unable to balance work and parenting, tithing and bills, productivity and Sabbath. We get stuck in a comparison game and in critical self-monologues, Consumed with the nagging feeling that we should be able to do more.

Forgive us for forgetting that we are made in your image. Forgive us for forgetting that you see us and love us as we are. Unravel the shame that unravels us. Gratefully we pray, Amen.
