REFLECTION

Funeral Services ~ Please call the parish office. If you have already made arrangements with a funeral director, a staff member will coordinate with them to meet your needs. Assistance with music is available on request.

FOR THE GLORY OF GOD The entire history of the Jewish people is directed toward one goal: that God might be glorified through the chosen people. Christians, too, are called to “do everything for the glory of God.” In today’s scriptures Paul reminds us that the best way for us to glorify God is to seek to benefit “the many,” as Christ did when he shed his blood for all of humankind. The reading from Leviticus explains one way the Jews sought to benefit the many, by keeping lepers and leprosy away from the chosen people. Jesus finds a better way. He cures the leper, who immediately re-enters the community to spread the good news about Jesus to everyone who will listen. In this way both Jesus and the leper fulfill their calling to glorify the God who fills us “with the joy of salvation.”

Your retreat is scheduled for Sunday, February 22 at the parish center. It will be from

8:30 a.m. through the regular 5:00 p.m. mass. If your sponsor can attend the Mass that night with you, it is ideal. Otherwise, your parent will need to serve as a proxy at the Mass. There will be a “Scrutiny” for you at that Mass - a time when the parish prays for your spiritual progress. PARISH NEWS

SMALL FAITH SHARING GROUPS

We are forming small groups using the Quest booklet, which is a reflection and sharing on the Sunday liturgies during Lent.

We have some small groups already formed and meeting on Wednesday nights at 6:30 and Wednesday mornings at 10:00. If you are interested in other days/times, please call Barbara Verdi at 323-6894.

The small groups consist of approximately 6 - 8 people. Facilitators are needed. If you were a facilitator during the time of Why Catholic?, you might consider this ministry again.

Lent calls us to make a conscious choice to change our hearts. This is a valuable way to do just that.

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Our diocese takes up the Collection for the Church in Central and Eastern Europe on Ash Wednesday. This Collection supports essential unmet pastoral needs in Central and Eastern Europe and areas of Central Asia formerly under Soviet control. Our assistance is vital to the growth and strength of the Church in these regions. For many in the Church in Central and, especially, Eastern Europe, the aftermath of 70 years of Soviet rule and state-sponsored atheism are still evident every day in the form of poverty and lack of access to pastoral care and buildings in which the faithful can worship and cultivate their faith. Your donations help strengthen the Church of this region through grants to Catholic organizations that help deliver pastoral care, form leaders, and build places where they can worship in the light of Christ. Please be generous in the Collection for the Church in Central and Eastern Europe, where your gifts are restoring the Church and building the future. Thank you and God bless you. Sincerely yours in Christ, MostReverendRandolphR.CalvoBishop of Reno
