2. Course Description The relationship between the investment and financingdecisions made by firms. Main topics include working capital and fixed assetmanagement. Concepts are discussed primarily in accounting terms. 3. Course Objectives Understand the function of managerial finance; Perform ratio analysis of corporate financial statements; Utilize the time value of money concepts; Understand the determinants of market interest rates andtheir term structures; Define and measure the risk and rates of return through thecapital asset pricing model; Use certain stock and bond valuation models; Engage in certain capital budgeting procedures includingpayback, discounted payback, net present value, and internalrate of return; Identify and calculate component costs of capital and theweighted average cost of capital. 4. Time Line Five week course: May 21 ----June 25 Week1: Review and Chapter 1, 2 Week 2: Chapter 3, 4, 5 Week 3: Chapter 5 (continued), 6 and Midterm Week 4: Chapter 7, 8, 9 Week 5: Chapter 10, 11 and Final exam 8. How to do well in this course? Read each assigned chapter. Watch the study video for each chapter, and fill out thestudent handouts accordingly. Read each chapter at least once more after youve seen thematerial presented and discussed in lecture notes. Clear uppoints of confusion. Follow the demonstration problems at the end of eachchapter. Solve or try to solve each of the end-of-chapter problems, ordo as many as you possibly can. This is the best way to judgeyour understanding of the material and to prepare for exams. 9. How to do well in this course? Work on the homework problems as they will be very similarto the examination problems. Learn how to use your calculator in good time to use it duringexams. Pay close attention to notices and materials available andposted on the course web site. Form a study group and help each other.
