A LITTLE ABOUT ME

My name is Alisha Johnson I grew up in northwest Arkansas My family lives close and I enjoy spending time

with them This is my 4th year to teach

1st grade all four years I love baseball! I like to do a lot of fun and creative things

with my students

DAILY COMMUNICATION

Behavior Log Green- Great Day Blue- Friendly Reminder Yellow- 5 minutes off of recess Red- 10 minutes off of recess, note home If behavior does not improve after these

attempts to correct it, all recess may be taken away, and/or a trip to see Mr. Gaffigan Please sign your child's behavior log each night.

HOMEWORK OPPORTUNITIES

Spelling Practice Sight Word Practice Math Practice (Optional)

If your child completes the math practice the whole quarter and they return it by that weeks Friday, they will be invited to participate in “Lunch Bunch”

Reading Group Books Reading Comprehension passages for the second

semester

SPELLING

Test Changes Your child will need to be able to identify 5

misspelled words, and spell the other 5 correctly. I will still send a list home of possible spelling words,

please practice all 10 each night

Please work with your student on writing letters the correct way (b,d,p,q)

SIGHT WORDS

To help with reading students will have 6 new words a week to learn

Each week we add 6 more Colored Sight Words

Red words are the pre-primer words Orange words are the primer words Yellow words are 1st grade words Green words are 2nd grade words

MATH

Problem Solving and manipulating numbers CGI

hands on math approach to help with problem solving

TLI higher level thinking questions to prepare

students for the ITBS in April Counting Collections on Fridays

My goal is for this time to have the students work on their number sense

WRITING

Writing Workshop- small group writing Sound Spelling Handwriting Writing Prompts

REPORT CARD

Our report card is skills based. E– excellent progress S– satisfactory progress N– needs improvement

Our report card will let your know what skills your child is mastering and which ones we still need to work on.

WATER BOTTLES

Please send a water bottle with your child to school to keep in their cubby. The weather is extremely hot and the water

fountain line gets to be very long with all the students trying to get a drink.

This water bottle can stay at school all year or you can send a disposable one. Any parents wanting to donate a case of water would

be greatly appreciated!

SNACK

Since our lunch is so early this year, we will be doing a small snack each afternoon.

Please send a class snack at the beginning of each month (fruit snacks, cheese its, goldfish, pretzels, etc.)

When we start running low, I will put a reminder in the newsletter.

REMIND 101

This is something new I am using this year. I will only use this for special reminders (field

trip reminders, picture day reminders, etc.) If you would like to be a part of this, please

SCHOOL HOURS

School is from 8:00-3:20 Students cannot be dropped off before 7:30 Morning First bell rings at 7:55 Tardy bell rings at 8:00 Afternoon Car rider bell rings at 3:10 Bus rider bell rings at 3:20

BUSES

Your child will not transition to another bus before getting home.

Bus discipline is covered in the student handbook. Routes 5A, 3A, and 13A will be dropped off around

7:10. Routes 3B, 5B, and 13B will be picked-up from

school around 3:45.

CAR RIDERS

Students must be dropped off and picked-up at the main door.

Traffic Flow must be followed. We will not release students at the door. Parents must be in car rider line. Parents without a car rider tag will be required to

come in the building and show ID to pick up their child

CAMPUS VISITS

Visitors are always welcome. You must check into the office anytime you are on

campus during school hours. There are no

exceptions.

TARDIES AND EARLY EXITS

A student arriving before 9:00 will be counted as tardy.

A student arriving after 9:00 but before 11:30 will be counted as a ½ day absence.

A student leaving after 2:10 will be counted as an early exit.

A student leaving after 11:30 but before 2:10 will be counted as a ½ day absence.

CHANGES IN TRANSPORTATION

● Please send a note with your child if they will not be going home their regular way.

● If a change needs to be made during the day, the office needs to be notified by 2:30.

BULLYING

A pattern of fear and intimidation, includes facebook etc, can become school issue even if begun outside of school, will be reviewed on case-by-case basis and disciplined according to handbook.

REVIEW OF SMART CORE CURRICULUM POLICY Smart Core Informed Consent & Smart Core

Waiver Forms by 6th grade Smart Core is default program Choosing Core could result in not qualifying for

certain scholarships or unconditional college admission

COMMON CORE STATE STANDARDS

Have been implemented in this school for 3 years Is now fully integrated throughout district www.commoncore.org www.corestandards.org

TITLE I

Our school receives federal and state funds to help assist our students.

The amount of money a district receives is determined by Free and Reduced Lunch Percentages.

How we allocate the money is determined through our Arkansas Consolidated School Improvement Plan. (ACSIP)

TITLE I

We use this money to help our students improve in literacy and math.

Paraprofessionals Class Size Reductions Technology Programs Materials

ARKANSAS CONSOLIDATED SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT PLAN (ACSIP)

All schools in Arkansas must submit their Arkansas Consolidated School Improvement Plan to the ADE each fall.

Our plan addresses Math, Literacy, Wellness, and English Language Learners.

Parent Involvement & Special Ed are embedded. Includes objectives for improvement, professional

development, coordination of funds, and program evaluation
