If I Knew Then What I Know Now!Parenting can be so confusing. Often by the time you figure out what to do, it’s too late

Here are a few tips you may already know or may find helpful along the way:

• Listen, support, and encourage your child to handle their own age - appropriate challenges. • Resist the temptation to tell them what to say, do, and or how to solve the problem.• Instead, validate the issue and ask what they plan to do. “That sounds like it was unfair, what do you

think is the best way to respond?”• Nurture independence, it builds self confidence, persistence, and perseverance.• People learn at different rates and with many levels of interest and motivation.• Encourage laughter, patience, tolerance, and compassion for others.• Celebrate individuality, creativity, and imagination. We have enough followers already.• We often learn as much or more when things don’t go as planned. Children learn how to get over

the bigger hurdles/challenges in life if they practice on the smaller bumps, twists, and turns along the journey. Though you want to help them avoid disappointment, we actually hamper their growth when we hover like helicopters clearing the obstacles in their way.

• Avoid comparisons to other siblings or peers. Support setting/reaching individual goals.
