Welcome Back Lambton-Kingsway Lightning!

Keeping ourselves and our school community safe

You will see some changes around the school. It will take a little time to get used to them but they are here to keep us all safe. Let’s take a look at what we need to know.

In the morning you will line up at your entry door. You will need to make sure you are wearing your mask and are physically distanced from the other students in the class. You should not be able to touch the person in front of you.

Your teacher will ask the class some health questions before you enter. If you are not feeling well please stay home.

We just want to make sure that everyone is healthy and ready to learn!

You will see new signs on all of the outside and inside doors showing you which ones to use.

When you get inside you will have a chance to sanitize your hands. There will also be spare masks if you need one.

You will see new decals on the floor to remind you to walk on the right hand side of the hall.

Here are some other new signs you will see in the hallways.

ClassroomsDesks are set up to help with physical distancing between students. It’s important to leave them apart and to stay at your desk at all times. Since we will not be using lockers or hooks you will need to bring all your belongings into class with you. Only bring what you absolutely need.

Learning MaterialsWhen possible, you will be using your own individual materials in the classroom. That means we will NOT be sharing pens, pencils, erasers, etc. Materials that may have to be shared, such as a chromebooks, reading anthologies, etc. will need to be sanitized after each use.

Hand HygieneWashing or sanitizing your hands properly and often will help to reduce the spread of germs. Everytime you come into or leave the classroom you must sanitize your hands. Washing your hands with soap and water is better than sanitizing your hands.

Hand Sanitizing Hand Washing

Hand Hygiene

Hand hygiene refers to hand washing or hand sanitizing as actions and should be performed frequently with soap and water or hand sanitizer for 20 seconds:

● upon entering and exiting the classroom; ● before and after eating;● after using the bathroom;● after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing; ● after using classroom materials that may be used by another student; ● after coming into contact with someone less than two meters (students/teacher); ● before and after putting on or taking off your mask and shield; ● after participating in group activities or outings (where applicable); and, ● whenever hands appear dirty (use soap and water).

How to wear a non-medical face mask properly

Washrooms and Water FountainsOnly one student at a time is allowed in the washroom. When you get to the door call inside to see if anyone is there. If someone is, then wait on the stop sign outside. Remember to wash your hands before leaving! Water fountains are to be used for filling water bottles only. Do not fill your water bottles in your classroom.

Outdoor Learning and RecessEach day our class will be going outside in the morning and in the afternoon for learning time. It is important that you come to school prepared to be outside for longer periods of time. This includes bringing appropriate clothes and something to sit on (foam tile, small yoga mat or beach towel). For part of this time you will have recess. You will need to stay with our class cohort. When you are outside you do not need to wear your mask as long as you are physically distancing. Make sure you have a labelled baggie or container to put your mask in.

Lunch RoutinesStudents who stay for lunch will eat in their classrooms. When you are eating you will need to have a safe, clean place to put your mask (labelled container or baggie). You may want to have a tea towel or cloth napkin to put on your desk before eating. You will need to stay in your seat and take all garbage home with you. After lunch you will go to a designated space outside for lunch recess. You will need to stay in this space with our class cohort. Once outside, you do not need to wear your mask as long as you are physically distancing.
