Yordano Ventura 1991-2017
Yordano Ventura was born on January 3, 1991 in the Dominican Re-
public. After quitting school at the age of 14, he worked in construction to
earn money for his family until joining a Kansas City Royals academy.
Ventura signed with the Royals as an international free agent in 2008, re-
ceiving a $28,000 signing bonus. He spent the next 18 months training at
the Royals' academy. Ventura played for the Kane County Cougars of the
Class A Midwest League in 2011. The Royals promoted Ventura to the
major leagues to make his debut on September 17, 2013. During spring
training in 2014, Ventura won the final spot in the Royals' starting rotation
over Danny Duffy. During the 2014 regular season, Ventura went 14–10
with a 3.20 ERA. Ventura signed a five-year, $23 million contract with
the Royals before the 2015 season. In April 2015, Ventura was involved
in bench-clearing incidents in three consecutive starts. He was the cause
of many bench cleaning incidents with other players. He was ejected,
fined, and suspended many times. During the 2015 regular season, Ventu-
ra pitched to a 13–8 record with a 4.08 ERA. He finished the 2016 season
with a 11–12 win-loss record and a 4.45 ERA. In 2016, in a game against
the Baltimore Orioles, Ventura threw many pitches inside and plenty of
words were said. Sadly, before the 2017 series started Ventura died in a
car accident in the Dominican Republic on January 22, 2017. He was only
25 and left his family behind.

The Kansas City Chiefs: A Year in Review
By: Sam Kullberg The Kansas City Chiefs finished the regular season with a 12-4 record and a Division Title, their
first since 2010. Although the Chiefs lost 18-16 in the Divisional Round of the playoffs, on a con-
troversial holding call at the end of the game, the Chiefs season was a success. They found a new
prospect in rookie Tyreek Hill who can both run and catch the ball. He averaged 11.1 yards per
rush on 24 attempts this year and had 3 rushing touchdowns. He also had 61 receptions and 6
receiving touchdowns this year. He even had one kick return for a touchdown and two punt re-
turns for a touchdown. In addition to all of this, he had 7 tackles as well. He was a huge asset for
the Chiefs.
Quarterback Alex Smith had another effective season averaging 233.5 passing yards per game
and had 15 passing touchdowns on the season with just 8 interceptions. Our move to acquire
Smith, the former 1st overall pick in a trade, has paid off for the Chiefs. He is a good leader and
will keep doing what he does for the foreseeable future. Tight end Travis Kelce was once again a
threat with 1,125 receiving yards and 4 receiving touchdowns this season. In addition to the
great offensive players for the Chiefs, they also had some defensive stars. One of which was cor-
nerback Marcus Peters. After a great rookie season, he came back and had 6 interceptions and
combined for 45 tackles (assists and solo tackles). This was just his second season.
The Chiefs had a promising season and have some talent on their hands for the future. Even
though they went another season with not going too deep into the playoffs, they are still an
effective regular season team. They won 10 out of their last 12 games this season and had a five-
game winning streak in the middle of the season. If you look back to the 2013 season, they won
their first 9 games of the season, one of the only teams to do that. The Chiefs have hope. It was
a disappointing end to the season but we have talent, experience, and coaching. Watch out for
the Chiefs, because they’re coming.

NBA Opinions and Predictions
The NBA is about mid-way through their season so I asked a couple peo-
ple what their favorite team was, their favorite player, who they think
will win the championship, and who they think will win MVP. The best
parts about the NBA are the dunks, ankle breakers, and occasionally
buzzer beaters. Everyone who is a basketball fan knows these are the
most exiting parts about a game and most fun to watch.

College Basketball
By: Nick Carlson and Luke Jenkins
The college basketball season is already halfway done. The top 25 keeps moving
around and as of January 25, 2017, Villanova is number one. But they lost and so did
#2 Kansas and #4 Kentucky. So, Gonzaga will probably be number one. UCLA has
been a surprising team being one of the top in the nation led by Freshman Lonzo Ball
and T.J. Leaf. We asked some people around the school what they think about col-
lege basketball and this is what they said.

Although both the PS4 Pro and the Xbox One S are good, the PS4 Pro has proven wor-
thy to be the best. The PS4 pro can play true 1080p games but the Xbox One S can run
anywhere from 720p to 900p. The PS4 Pro is also way faster when loading games and
has a removable hard drive. But the Xbox one S can add external hard drives which can
be really fast (Ps4 cannot). The Xbox One S is more like a small computer and the Ps4
Pro is more like a laptop. Although the Xbox one is less expensive the Ps4 Pro has better
specs.

Super Bowl
By: Yanal Ramahi and Tristan Ojeda
The Super Bowl is where the top two teams in the NFL play against
each other. Last year’s Super Bowl was between the Broncos and
Panthers. The Broncos won 28-24. This year’s Super Bowl is be-
tween the Patriots and the Falcons. I think that the Patriots are go-
ing to win and that is whom I am cheering for. I think the Patriots
will win because they are good. However, I think it is going to be a
close game. Below is a list of students we interviewed and who
they think will win!
We think that the Patriots are going to win because they have had a good
season and Tom Brady is a better than Matt Ryan.
Joel Davidson Falcons
Jack Perez Patriots
Miguel Cooper Falcons
