Welcome! Believe it or not, the writers of the famous Motown song, “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough,” are not Diana Ross or Marvin Gaye, the ones who are famous for singing it. This song was written by Nikolas Ashford and Valerie Simpson. This married couple (who also wrote “Ain’t Nothing Like The Real Thing”) had moved to New York in the mid-1960s. One day as Ashford walked through the city, he said he looked up at all the tall buildings and realized how overwhelming the city was. He said the words, “ain’t no mountain high enough,” popped into his head. He was determined to not let the city overcome him. I bet you have felt overwhelmed too at some point in life. The psalmist offers us incredible hope for the mountains of life, God is in our midst. My prayer for today is for this Psalm of the Summer to offer each of us the assurance and comfort that indeed the Lord is present. Welcome!

Believe it or not, the writers of the famous Motown song, “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough,”

are not Diana Ross or Marvin Gaye, the ones who are famous for singing it. This song was

written by Nikolas Ashford and Valerie Simpson. This married couple (who also wrote “Ain’t

Nothing Like The Real Thing”) had moved to New York in the mid-1960s. One day as Ashford

walked through the city, he said he looked up at all the tall buildings and realized how

overwhelming the city was. He said the words, “ain’t no mountain high enough,” popped into his

head. He was determined to not let the city overcome him.

I bet you have felt overwhelmed too at some point in life. The psalmist offers us incredible hope

for the mountains of life, God is in our midst. My prayer for today is for this Psalm of the

Summer to offer each of us the assurance and comfort that indeed the Lord is present.

WELCOME

PRELUDE Festival piece on NICAEA arr. Jerry Westenkuehler

GIVE PRAISE TO GOD’S GLORY

* HYMN 260 A Mighty Fortress Is Our God EIN’ FESTE BURG

Love Come Down Casey Darnell VBS Children (11:15)

I will sing forever of your love come down,

with my hands to heaven shout your praises loud.

I was lost in darkness when you pulled me out.

I once was blind, I could not see,

chains of sin had shackled me.

But God in heaven heard my plea,

Jesus, Jesus rescued me.

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Almighty God, you brought forth the world for the love of Christ,

yet we fear that the earth will change and the mountains around us might crumble.

We have acknowledged the Lordship of Christ with our lips, but we have not honored him with our lives.

We have served the idols of wealth and privilege and wrapped ourselves in fear.

We have not loved our neighbors, nor sought reconciliation with our enemies.

Lord, break our rebellious will and center us in your word.

Help us to be still in rest in the knowledge that you are our refuge and our God.

Now, hear me, as in silence I confess to you my personal sins...

SILENT PERSONAL CONFESSION

Welcome to Worship!

Last week at Vacation Bible

School, nearly 700 children & volunteers spent a week learning that they are created by God and built for a purpose. Each day, kids participated in small groups and

discovered practical ways to let God’s love

guide them. This week of VBS taught them that God made them for a reason;

God is for them; God is always with them; and God will always

love them.

Our Bible passage today is written by the sons of Korah. In this

passage we learn that God is our

strength and that we have nothing to fear.

We are always protected by the Lord.

Can you think of a time where you felt protected? Does it

comfort you to know that God’s strength can protect you?
