The Consequences of Hidden Sin Scripture: Joshua 7:11 - 26

Joshua 7:11-1311 Israel has sinned, and they have also

transgressed My covenant which I commanded them. And they have even taken some of the things under the ban

and have both stolen and deceived. Moreover, they have also put them among their own things. 12 Therefore the sons of Israel cannot stand before their enemies;

they turn their backs before their enemies, for they have become accursed.

I will not be with you anymore unless you destroy the things under the ban from

your midst. 13 Rise up! Consecrate the people and say, ‘Consecrate yourselves

for tomorrow, for thus the Lord, the God of Israel, has said, “There are things

under the ban in your midst, O Israel. You cannot stand before your enemies until you have removed the things under the

ban from your midst.”

Joshua 7:12

12 Therefore the sons of Israel cannot stand before their enemies; they turn their backs before their enemies, for

they have become accursed. I will not be with you anymore unless you

destroy the things under the ban from your midst.

Joshua 7:14-2314 In the morning then you shall come near by your tribes. And it shall be that the tribe which

the Lord takes by lot shall come near by families, and the family which the Lord takes

shall come near by households, and the household which the Lord takes shall come near man by man. 15 It shall be that the one who is taken with the things under the ban

shall be burned with fire, he and all that belongs to him, because he has transgressed the covenant of the Lord, and because he has

committed a disgraceful thing in Israel.’”

16 So Joshua arose early in the morning and brought Israel near by tribes, and the tribe of Judah was taken. 17 He brought the family of

Judah near, and he took the family of the Zerahites; and he brought the family of the Zerahites near man by man, and Zabdi was

taken. 18 He brought his household near man by man; and Achan, son of Carmi, son of

Zabdi, son of Zerah, from the tribe of Judah, was taken. 19 Then Joshua said to Achan, “My son, I implore you, give glory to the Lord, the God of Israel, and give praise to Him; and tell me now what you have done. Do not hide it

from me.”

20 So Achan answered Joshua and said, “Truly, I have sinned against the Lord, the God of Israel, and this is what I did:

21 when I saw among the spoil a beautiful mantle from Shinar and two hundred shekels of silver and a bar of

gold fifty shekels in weight, then I coveted them and took them; and behold, they are concealed in the earth inside my

tent with the silver underneath it.”

22 So Joshua sent messengers, and they ran to the tent; and behold, it was concealed in his tent with the silver underneath it. 23 They took

them from inside the tent and brought them to Joshua and to all the sons of

Israel, and they poured them out before the Lord.

Acts 5:1-115 But a man named Ananias, with his wife Sapphira, sold a piece of property, 2 and kept back some of the price for himself, with his

wife’s full knowledge, and bringing a portion of it, he laid it at the apostles’ feet. 3 But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back some of the price of the land? 4 While it remained

unsold, did it not remain your own? And after it was sold, was it not under your control?

Why is it that you have conceived this deed in your heart? You have not lied to men but to

God.”

5 And as he heard these words, Ananias fell down and breathed his last; and great fear

came over all who heard of it. 6 The young men got up and covered him up, and after

carrying him out, they buried him.7 Now there elapsed an interval of about three hours, and his wife came in, not knowing what had happened. 8 And Peter responded to her, “Tell me whether you sold the land for such and such a price?” And she said, “Yes, that

was the price.” 9 Then Peter said to her,

“Why is it that you have agreed together to put the Spirit of the Lord to the test? Behold, the feet of those who have buried your husband

are at the door, and they will carry you out as well.” 10 And immediately she fell at his feet

and breathed her last, and the young men came in and found her dead, and they carried her out

and buried her beside her husband. 11 And great fear came over the whole church, and

over all who heard of these things.

• Numbers 32:23

• 23 But if you will not do so, behold, you have sinned against the Lord, and be sure your sin will find you

out.

• 1 John 1:9

• 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all

unrighteousness.

• Hebrews 4:13

• 13 And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are

open and laid bare to the eyes of Him with whom we have to do.

Joshua 7:2121 when I saw among the spoil a

beautiful mantle from Shinar and two hundred shekels of silver and a bar of

gold fifty shekels in weight, then I coveted them and took them; and behold, they are concealed in the

earth inside my tent with the silver underneath it.”

Joshua 7:24-26

24 Then Joshua and all Israel with him, took Achan the son of Zerah, the silver, the mantle, the bar of gold, his sons, his

daughters, his oxen, his donkeys, his sheep, his tent and all that belonged to him; and they brought them up to the

valley of Achor. 25 Joshua said, “Why have you troubled us? The Lord will

trouble you this day.”

And all Israel stoned them with stones; and they burned them with fire after they had stoned them with stones. 26 They raised over him a great heap of stones that stands to this day, and the

Lord turned from the fierceness of His anger. Therefore the name of that

place has been called the valley of Achor to this day.

Hosea 2:1515 “Then I will give her her vineyards

from there,And the valley of Achor as a door of

hope. And she will sing there as in the days

of her youth,As in the day when she came up from

the land of Egypt.

• John 10:7

• 7 So Jesus said to them again, “Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of

the sheep.

Isaiah 65:9-109 “I will bring forth offspring from Jacob,And an heir of My mountains from Judah;

Even My chosen ones shall inherit it,And My servants will dwell there.

10 “Sharon will be a pasture land for flocks,

And the valley of Achor a resting place for herds,

For My people who seek Me.

Jeremiah 30:7

7 ‘Alas! for that day is great,

There is none like it;

And it is the time of Jacob’s distress,

But he will be saved from it.

Romans 11:26

26 and so all Israel will be saved; just as it is written,

“The Deliverer will come from Zion,

He will remove ungodliness from Jacob.”
