Cape Charles Shopping & Dining – August 6th This year’s Eastern Shore dine and drive event will be to the Eastern Shore town of Cape Charles for some shopping at the quaint shops along Mason Ave and off for some delicious lunch at Kellys Gingernut Pub, which is a unique restaurant located in a 100 year old bank. We will meet at Mercedes Benz of Vir-ginia Beach at 9:30 on Saturday, August 6th. From there we will cross the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel (CBBT) on the way to the Eastern Shore of Virginia. The CBBT is one of the “7 Engineering Wonders of the World” and is truly an unforget-table experience. There is a toll of $12 to cross and $5 to return but the Mercedes Club is going to reimburse you for the tolls after lunch so don’t let that deter you from coming.

If you would like to attend, please contact Don LaBar at 757-620-6772.

Adopt-a-Street Report May 15 was a nice day to clean-up our Adopt-A-Spot. Windsor Babson and his wife Ramona were joined with Bob Vann, Jim Villers and Don LaBar and his two girls.

By 9:30, the street was clean and the group headed out with the satisfaction that we had given a little back to our community. Join us for our next clean-up on July 10.

Auto Haus of Williamsburg Tech Session Jun 18 Report MBCA, Virginia Chapter, had a second Tech Session at Auto Haus of Williamsburg on 06/18/16. We were met by Auto Haus staff, Stephen Hancock, Warren Metezger and Simon W. They had set out a spread of doughnuts and breakfast sandwiches to die for. We were able to see the finished Pagoda from Simon's last year done to perfection. Their new project is a 1966, 250 SE. We were able to see car almost stripped to the frame. The shops are spotlessly clean, a reflection of their product and work ethic. Thank you Auto Haus.

We had to tear ourselves away so we could get to Smoke BBQ on Warwick Blvd. The food was great and a good time was had by all. Those attending were: Dave Ostrom, Frank Shaffer, Jim Villers, Bob Hyatt, Dwight Finnie, Jerry Schonfeld, Steve Turner, Peter & Sherry Spring, Vince & Diane Figuenick, Bob Thomas, Eric Jacnor, Gwen Buckley, Mark Metzger, Don La-Bar, Rose Stewart, Leonard Powell, Tom Dawson.

Anyone Interested in a Lynchburg Overnight? Tom Dawson has proposed a overnight tour to the Lynchburg area of western Virginia. We would stay at the Craddock Hotel (built in an old shoe factory), eat at interesting restaurants and tour the Bedford WW2 Memorial and Thomas Jefferson’s Pop-lar Forrest home. If you are interested, please contact Tom ([email protected] or 757-434-1587). so he can deter-mine if we have sufficient interest to plan the event.

SummerFest 2016 Track Event - Jun 4-5 Report The Virginia Section hosted a High Speed Driving Event on North Carolina’s Center for Automotive Research’s (NCCAR) road course in Garysburg, NC.

Upon arriving at our host hotel, Hilton Garden Inn in Roanoke Rapids, NC, Section members set up the registration table and began the tech inspection on the cars to make sure they were safe for the racetrack.

Saturday dawned early, registration and tech inspections contin-ued at the track until the drivers meeting where everyone re-ceived a good overview of the track, layout, flags, passing zones and track etiquette. Then it was into the grid for the day’s first run group.

Throughout the day, four run groups were allowed on the track (with instructors for the novice group and intermediate group drivers who requested one). Around noon, we took a break for a catered lunch with delicious southern food. Some non-MBCA members were surprised that we had lunch available at the track but this is the Mercedes Club and socializing is in our blood.

All in all, a terrific weekend, and another fine job by the MBCA volunteers as well as the very professional NCCAR staff who made things go smoothly all day.

.Bulbs and Brew Tour Re-port - March 26 We began our adventures on a slightly windy morning in Norfolk Virginia with a tour of the Hermitage House main gardens. Don Labar drove in with his rather interesting 250 C. Unfortunately we did get to see a lot of bulbs and not a lot of blooming, but still very beautiful.

After our guided tour of the grounds and shore-line we then toured of the house itself. There we fell in love with the beautiful wood cravings throughout the Sloane family's residence and mu-seum. Our guide took us back to a much simpler time in history and regaled the generous events that the Sloane family would host in their home for the servicemen stationed in the local area. It was easy to see Mrs. Sloan's passion for art and all things of beauty, from the gardens to wood carvings on the dinning room doors.
