Welcome
Parents
of the
Class of 2016!
Be the PARENT!
When we are raising teens we need to…
Adolescence is the time to step up and into parenting.
“Don’t you trust me ?!”
Degrees of trust are age dependent. Trusthim/her to make the best decisions a 14.. 15..16.. 17..18.. year old can make!
Love is a gift freely given. Trust is a two-waystreet built over time between people whorepeatedly endeavor to offer evidence of theirdependability.
What were you thinking!?! ?

Talk to your children about sex. Everyone else is!
We know that….– A. God invented sex!– B. Teens are not ready for the complications
and responsibilities of sex.– C. Ultimately, the decision about what their
sexual expressions will be and will mean lies in the hands of our teens.
It will help if we…..• Limit sleepovers and keep them to one gender! • Avoid creating in-laws.• Keep dates in family gathering areas not
bedrooms.• Supervise, Supervise, Supervise!

Extreme and Serious Danger
Who owns that device????
Mom and Dad !!!!!!
• Ask to see Face Book pages and require that your child “Friend” you!
• Recharge all electronic devices each night in the family room, kitchen or parents’ bedroom.
• Talk about and model safe and mature uses for technology.
We earn complete privacy
when we mail our first rent or mortgage check .
Leaving your teen home alone and
unsupervised is even more dangerous
than leaving your 10 year
old home alone!!!!
Party Planning for Parents!1. Call the parent-host of the party and offer to
bring brownies. Remember, no one has actually ever died of embarrassment!
2. Ask if the parents will be home and how many guests they are expecting.
3. Ask if they will be serving alcohol.4. Drop your teen off and then pick him or her
up. Some of the best conversations happen on these rides.
5. Establish a “safe zone” forchildren to call, admit they were drinking and get a ride homewithout recrimination. Natural consequences may follow the next day.

Be Present!
When we are raising teens we need to…
Be the driver.
Wait up!
Have your child sleep at home.
Know where your children are after school.
Make dates to spend time as a family.
A 2005 Columbia University study reported that teens in families that meet together five or more times a week for a meal are 42% less likely to drink, 59% less likely to smoke cigarettes, 66% less likely to use marijuana and 40% more likely to achieve A’s and B’s in school.
