Who is Mrs. McCarthy?

Thank you for coming tonight!

We are working very hard this year to prepare for first grade. Students will be expected to know and write all of their letters and sounds in order to write sentences by the end of the year! Students will be expected to read at a level 4 or above. Students should be able to count by ones and tens to 100, identify coins and patterns, and begin joining and separating numbers. In order to accomplish this, we will be working together! Please complete homework and reading every night, and let me know if you have any questions. I will be working in small groups and one on one when needed. We will also have Cougar Buddies and PALS to help.

*On a side note, I would also appreciate any help in buttoning pants, tucking in shirts, and tying shoes. It will come with time. *

Accelerated Reader Accelerated Reader • AR is not our reading program, but a tool we use

to help students practice and improve reading skills.

• A committee will be meeting soon to discuss guidelines and incentives.

• Increased vocabulary is crucial for learning in all subjects.

• Students will be reading before and after school while waiting for the bell to ring.

• The more we read, the better we get, and the more enjoyment it brings.

• Kindergarten must read at a level 8. Our yearly goal is 10 points with an 80% average.

Attendance

It is very important for your student be at school everyday unless they are sick. They miss important instruction when they are absent.

Our tardy bell rings at 7:50. Students need to be in the building by this time. Please leave early in anticipation of traffic around the school. There are consequences for your student if they are not here on time.
