Arrival

• Students have the option of riding the regular school bus to school (it is best if the child has an older sibling). Most parents drop off their child in the parking lot (car rider pick up and drop off).

• Students will be lined up in the lobby and a student safety will walk students down to the classroom where students will put their notebook and folder in the bin and then come into class. In the beginning of the year we allow parents to walk down and drop of their child in the classroom however we have an “independence day” where students start to walk down independently. Please remember that if you are walking your child down to the room you must stop into the office to get a pass.

Dismissal

• All students have the option of taking the Pre-Kindergarten bus home from school. We dismiss at 11:10 am out of the side door located to the left of the front entrance. If you plan to have your child ride the bus home; please visit the office. (Just a reminder that you can not change the stop that your child gets off without several days notice and if someone new will be picking up please write a note so that we can let the bus driver know).

• Just a reminder, someone must come out to get your student off of the bus! If there is no one there to get your child, he/she will be taken back to school and you will need to have someone come to school to pick he/she up.

• If you are picking up your child from school each day please find parking on Pleasant Valley Drive (not in the bus loop) and walk up. If you will be getting your child early from school or someone else will be picking up; please write a note for us to send down the office to verify approval.

Behavior

•In Pre-K, students behavior will be monitored using a “stop light” structure. Each day, students will start on green. If a negative behavior occurs

and consistently happens after one warning, the child will be moved to yellow. (For serious matters such as hitting, biting, stealing, profound language etc, students will automatically move to red). Depending on the situation, students may have the opportunity to move back to green!•A behavior chart will also be glued in your child’s composition notebook

Page 14: Welcome Parents to Ms. Ensor’s Pre-Kindergarten class!

Behavior• We are implementing a new behavior system along with the Green, Yellow, and

Red behavior chart.

• All students start on green everyday. After two warnings a child will move to yellow. If the child continues to not follow directions, is not safe, or does not follow rules; a child moves to red. Each child has the opportunity to move back to green. Hitting, biting, kicking, spitting, and other behaviors that hurt other friends automatically go to red.

• 1-2-3 MAGIC (new)

• Counting 1, 2, 3, and then “timeout”. No teacher talking. STEP ONE

• Encouraging good behavior. Praise, positive reinforcement and charting. STEP TWO

• Active listening, shared fun, and class meetings. STEP THREE

• Your child must have closed toed shoes; preferably tennis shoes.

• If your child does not have the proper shoes to go on the playground, they will have to either walk around the playground or play with chalk.

• If necessary, please pack a change of shoes in your child’s backpack if they refuse to wear them to school that day.
