Language Arts Goals• Student will learn decoding skills,reading strategies and phonemic

awareness.

• They will learn 226 new sight words.

• They will apply this knowledge to achieve fluent oral reading.

Writing Goals

• Students will write clear and coherent sentences that develop a central idea.

• They will work on informative, descriptive, narrative, and persuasive writing.

•I will assign about 30 minutes of homework every night. This includes 20 minutes of reading (read pink books sent home with phonics skills for that week to practice what is being taught in class).

•Your child should practice spelling,dictation, and math facts daily as you see the need.

•If your child is having difficulty with any ofthe homework. Please let me know. We can work together on a solution.

Homework• Students will be provided with a binderthat will go home each Monday and must bereturned on Friday.• Inside the binder will be a variety of toolsto be used for helping with homework(questions for reading, 120 chart, high frequency

word list, phonics spelling chart…). • There will also be a list of recommended websites for spelling and math facts practice.• Please keep these items in their folders.

Remove: pink books, flyers, tests, and notes from front pocket.

Opportunities• We are in need of parents to help with preppingclass projects, helping students learn to use the

computers, sorting grade level materials, as well as playing educational games with groups of students.

• If you plan to help in the classroom you need acleared TB (check with the office for the school giving

free tests in the district.)
