WELCOME to the sixth annual Rolling Into Roanoke, hosted by Rolling Into Roanoke, Inc., a fundraiser for the town of Roanoke, the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Museum and the National Auto and Truck Museum (NATMUS) of Auburn, IN. This year’s theme is “That ’70s Car Show” featuring TV and movie cars plus one-owner classic cars... all wrapped up in a cool ’70s vibe.

Our new event kicks off the Rolling Into Roanoke weekend: Rock ’N’ Cars—a live concert/cruise-in is at Sweetwater campus! The Sweetwater All-Stars will rock, and registered VIP cars will be on display. Enjoy food trucks, beer and wine, and get your own Rolling Into Roanoke 16 ounce glass!

A big thank you to all the classic car owners and collectors. Your willingness to bring these fine machines to our event to be enjoyed by others is why we’re here today. Thanks, too, to the Roanoke Town Council; Phil Hibbert, Roanoke Superintendent; Major Sheaffer of CLJROTC, and all of our dedicated volunteers.

I can’t think of a better place to exhibit these wonderful works of automotive art than in our great community with its restored, preserved, and charming all-American Main Street corridor and city park. Experience our shops, eateries and small-town, family-friendly hospitality as you take in the cars and chat with their owners.

We thank you for coming, hope you enjoy the day, and we’re already looking forward to seeing you next year!

A one-of-a-kind history experience with an exhibit dedicated to Indiana’s automotive and racing heritage is coming to Hoosier communities across the state. We’re proud to present History on Wheels, a 53-foot double-expandable semi-trailer and state-of-the-art traveling exhibit that will visit festivals, fairs, schools and other special events.

“For decades, the Indiana Historical Society has dedicated resources to giving people a way to experience and enjoy Indiana history in their own communities,” says IHS President and CEO John A. Herbst. “History on Wheels allows us to expand on this critical part of our mission. It is the only traveling exhibit of its kind in the state – truly a new way to experience history.”

When it rolls into Indiana cities and towns, the custom trailer housing the exhibition Auto Indiana will expand to nearly 1,000 square feet of indoor space. Inside the mobile museum, guests will take a ride through the state’s far-reaching and personal connections to the auto industry.

The exhibit touches on the history of more than 100 Indiana automakers and manufacturers, such as Cord, Duesenberg and Studebaker. It also delves into the lives of Hoosier innovators and inventors, such as Carl Fisher, Elwood Haynes and Ralph Teetor.

In one section of the exhibit, guests of all ages can explore under the hood of a car modeled after a 1914 Marmon Touring Car. In addition, children can climb into the driver’s seat of a mini IndyCar and imagine what it would be like to cross the famed Yard of Bricks.

For information on booking History on Wheels for your festival or event, contact Mark McNees, coordinator, at (317) 234-2029.

HISTORY ON WHEELS

• Roots of the Auto Industry – Hoosiers were early automobile innovators and manufacturers. Using touch screen technology, kids and kids at heart will have a great time tinkering with the engine of one of Indiana’s earliest cars, the Marmon.

• Roadside Americana – As cars became more and more popular, the road system expanded and a wide variety of new businesses popped up all over the state. Visitors can lift-and-look into glove compartments through the ages and see objects related to auto history.

• Parts and Pieces, Modern Manufacturing – Hoosiers have adapted to the growing global automobile market with factories in Lafayette, Princeton and Greensburg, manufacturing Subaru, Toyota and Honda vehicles. An interactive map acts as a timeline for visitors to see the expansion of auto manufacturing from 1896 to the present.

• Racing, Muscle Cars and Monster Trucks – Visitors will rev their engines in the section dedicated to racing. From the Indianapolis Motor Speedway to local tracks and drag strips, Hoosiers have long loved to push their cars to the extreme. Children will love their chance to be the next Indy 500 winner in our miniature IndyCar.

• The Future, Innovation and Consequences – Explore modern manufacturing techniques, including the push to build more fuel-efficient cars, and examine the economic impact of the auto industry on communities across the state.

Indiana Historical Society launched History on Wheels in May 2017. Since then, the 53-foot, double-expandable trailer has visited 33 communities across the state and welcomed more than 48,000 visitors.

Featuring the exhibit Auto Indiana, History on Wheels is an eye-catching draw to your festival and fair attendees. In nearly 1,000 square feet of exhibit space Auto Indiana focuses on five topics related to automobiles in Indiana using historic photographs, newspapers, vintage advertisements and video panels:

INDIANA HISTORICAL SOCIETY

“The Indiana Historical Society people have been great to work with through this whole thing.”
