THE POWER OF “YET” AND GRIT At the Senior Prep Assembly this morning Mrs Mendes spoke about the focus on the word “yet” and the concept of having “grit. What a difference the word “yet” can make when used at times of challenge!

Having “grit” – the perseverance to hang on and keep trying is a valuable skill to have. We wish all the Somerset House pupils a fantastic year and hope that they will have courage to try new things and accept the lessons that come from facing challenges head-on.

GRADE 7 LEADERSHIP WEEK The Grade 7s of 2020 spent their first few days of school bonding as a grade and participating in various team building and leadership activities. The idea was to encourage unity amongst the grade, teach the Grade 7s valuable skills and give them an introduction to the year ahead and our expectations for them. Due to extreme temperatures this past week, we unfortunately had to cancel our hike up the Helderberg. However, the Grade 7s showed tremendous resilience and still participated willingly and enthusiastically in all team building activities despite the heat. A highlight for most was the Masterchef Braai-off, where teams had to cook their own boerewors rolls, as well as prepare a sauce from scratch and a side dish for a panel of judges. The standard was exceptional, and the Grade 7 teachers were blown away by the amount of effort each group went to, to produce such phenomenal dishes. Well done, Grade 7s! Here’s to a wonderful year together!
