Behavior Expectations BWF Way
Be Safe. Be Respectful. Be Your Best.
This year we will follow the 6th grade Responsibility Plan.
6th Grade Responsibility Plan
• Friday Incentive – Students will earn a Friday incentive if he or she exhibits the BWF Way throughout the week. Students will have the opportunity to select from various choices. If a student earns 10 positive behavior marks in one month, they will receive an extra incentive (extra recess, vending voucher, preschool/office helper, etc.).
• Responsibility Calendar – The purpose of the Responsibility Calendar is to inform parents of weekly student behavior and incomplete assignments. Positive and negative behaviors will be noted in the student agenda on each monthly calendar. Parents are expected to sign the calendar every Thursday after school.
• Isolated Lunch – Student will eat lunch in an assigned classroom isolated from their peers.
• Detention – Detention lasts 45 minutes after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:00-3:45 in the assigned classroom. Detention will not be used as a Study Hall. An appropriate assignment will be given. After serving three detentions, a behavior conference will be held with the parents. If necessary, a referral to the Child Study Team will be scheduled.
• While no plan works for all children, this plan is in place for children in 6th grade. At any time this plan is not working for a particular student, a new plan will be developed.
• Some students may require an individual behavior intervention plan, which will be developed by appropriate school personnel.
• Students are required to have a parent signature if an infraction occurred during the week. If it is not signed, Friday Incentive is automatically lost.
Conferences
• We are available for a conference as a team Monday-Friday from 11:10-11:35 and Thursday and Friday from 2:10-2:50.
• If you have a question relating to a particular subject area please contact that teacher.
• In October, we have student led conferences which will inform you of learning progress.
Report Cards
• Report cards and interims will continue to be available electronically.
• Usernames and passwords have already been sent.
• If you have not received your information or need technical support, please contact the office.
Dress Attire
• Students may want to bring a light sweater or jacket for the difference in room temperatures.
• Tennis shoes are required for P.E.
• Please make sure undergarments are not showing.
Snacks, Lunches and Party Foods
• Students are allowed to bring a healthy snack and water to their second period class (9:25-10:15).
• Due to some severe peanut/nut allergies, please refrain from sending anything with peanuts or nuts.
• You may bring birthday treats to share during our lunch time.
A note from the nurse
• We need a new Blue Immunization Form reflecting that all students have had the TDap shot which is required for 6th grade.
Mountain Brook City Schools Foundation
• The Mountain Brook City Schools Foundation provides an ongoing and dependable funding source for critical academic "extras" (i.e. technology, teacher training and development, and library enhancement). These extras benefit every grade level and every academic subject area.

Thank you PTO
We appreciate your continued support and commitment to our school. We love our
new library!
The next PTO meeting will be September 3rd.
Reading
• Our theme this year is “Building a Reading Life.” We hope to support students with a strong reading foundation by customizing instruction.
• Students need time for us to care about their independent reading. We need time to show concern and celebrate together.
• Students need time for explicit instruction and application in researched based strategies that proficient readers use.
