Why do we customarily eat dairy on Shavuos?
Numerous reasons are suggested for this practice, including: • To ensure that we have two distinct cooked foods, which is the definition of feasting. We have a dairy meal to fulfill this custom of eating dairy, and a separate meat meal for the general mitzvah of eating meat on Yom Tov. Also, this provides separate loaves of bread for the meat and dairy, so that we have two loaves of bread, parallel to the two loaves of bread brought as a korban on Shavuos. (Rama Orach Chaim 494:3, and see Igrot Moshe Orach Chaim 1:160) • On Shavuos we celebrate the presentation of the Torah. After the Torah was given, the Jews would have needed many steps to make a meat meal, both in preparing the meat and in preparing new utensils. Therefore, they made a dairy meal, which required fewer steps. (Mishneh Berurah 494:12) • Commentators explain the verse, "Honey and milk are beneath your tongue (Shir haShirim 4:11)", to refer to Torah, which we celebrate on Shavuos. (Mishneh Berurah 494:13; and see Devarim Rabbah 7:3)
According to Rama (Yoreh Deah 97:1), some people actually make dairy bread for the dairy meal of Shavuos. Even though we are normally prohibited from making dairy bread [lest one eat it with meat], this is not a concern at the dairy meal of Shavuos, since a limited quantity is prepared, to be consumed at a prescribed time.

QUESTIONS FOR PARSHAS EMOR BY: THE RAV
First Aliyah: (21:3) Why may a Kohen render himself tamei for an unmarried sister only? Second Aliyah: (22:2) Why is a verb associated with a nazir used to describe the Kohen’s obligation to protect the Korbanos? Third Aliyah: (22:18‐21) For the laws of blemished animals, why are Olos and Shelamim sacrifices listed separately if the law applies equally to both? Fourth Aliyah: Why does a discussion of the holy days appear here, right after the Kohanim’s duties to the Korbanos? Fifth Aliyah: (23:24) Why is Rosh HaShanah called a “zichron teruah” – a commemoration of shofar blasts, and not simply a day of shofar blasts? Sixth Aliyah: (23:39) Why does this pasuk begin with the word, “Akh,” “However”? Seventh Aliyah: (24:10‐23) Why is the story of the son of the Egyptian mentioned at the end of a parshah that is all about mitzvos?

BAYT YOUTH……. Always Something For Everyone
Dear Parents of BAYT Youth,
Here at BAYT Youth, your child’s happiness and safety is our number one responsibility. Every Shabbat, BAYT Youth offers a great array of programming geared towards every age from nursery to high school. We are very proud of the quality of programs we have developed over the years.
It has come to our attention that there are a large number of unsupervised children running around the shul every Shabbat . This is both a safety concern for the children and a distraction for people trying to concentrate on their davening.
Given the current world political situation, we are asking that all children either attend a youth program or sit with their parents during davening. Please know where your children are at all times. In the event of an emergency, G‐d forbid, it is crucial to know the location of all the children.
We hope we can count on your cooperation in making the BAYT an inviting and safe environment for our children.
