Our reception staff will be at your disposal 24 hours a day for any additional information. Air-conditioning The entire hotel is air-conditioned. We kindly ask you to keep the doors and windows of your room closed as otherwise the air-conditioner will not be effective. In each room the air-conditioner may be turned on and off and regulated by +/-2°C. Animation Our animation team prepares all-day programmes for younger children in the mini club and teen room and also aerobics, aquaerobics, sports and entertainment for all. You can find more details on the animation information board by the entrance to the restaurant, as well as on the INFO-TV channel. Mini Club in the open air is situated next to the restaurant Grill Sirena and is open from 15th June to 1st September, between 10 am and 12.30 pm and 4 pm and 6 pm. Teen Room is situated in the neighbouring Aminess Laguna Hotel and is open from 1st July to 1st September, between 4 pm and 6 pm and from 8 pm to 11 pm. Arrival/Departure On the day of your arrival, your room will be available from 3 pm and on the day of departure we kindly ask you to vacate your room by 10 am. Bike services Aminess Maestral Hotel fully meets all the criteria for a bike hotel. The bike-hotel sign directs guests to a hotel, which is additionally equipped to receive cyclists. The bike room has video surveillance and a servicing workshop and a bike washing room situated at the Aminess Maestral Hotel. The card that opens the bike room is issued by the reception upon request of the guest. The bike corner, a corner intended for cyclists (available for reading of information about the destination bike offer, offer of packages, etc.) is located in the hotel lobby. Concierge service Concierge service is available to hotel guests in the period from 01 July to 15 September every day between 8 am and 12 am and 6 pm and 9 pm. Congress halls The Hotel has at its disposal two larger congress halls with a capacity of 180 and 80 places, as well as three smaller meeting rooms each with a capacity of between 10 and 12 persons. Detailed information is available at hotel Reception. Credit cards You may pay your bill with the following credit cards: Eurocard/Mastercard, Diners, Visa, and American Express. "Do not disturb" sign A "Do not disturb" sign on the outside of the door will be strictly respected. If you do not wish to receive telephone calls please notify Reception. Doctor Doctor's surgery is situated within the neighbouring Aminess Laguna Hotel. Doctor's services are charged for. Opening hours: Monday, Wednesday and Friday: 7 am to 1.30 pm Tuesday and Thursday: 1.00 pm to 7.30 pm Eco list Please leave towels which you wish to reuse on the towel rail. Towels left on the floor or thrown into the shower tray or bath means that they need replacing. Tons of towels which are washed daily in the hotel or outside laundry facilities use enormous quantities of electric and heat energy, detergents and other chemicals. Despite the fact that all cleaning products are biodegradable, this does not mean that they do not affect the environment; biologically degradable cleaning products only have a lower negative impact on the environment. Emergency exits In each room, next to the entry door, there is an evacuation plan with your exact position marked. In the halls, along with evacuation plans, there are also evacuation directions (arrows on green signs). In the event of a fire, the emergency doors open automatically. Hairdresser Hairdresser is situated on the hotel ground floor. Opening hours: from 11 am to 7 pm. Closed on Sundays. Hotel card Upon arrival, each hotel guest is given his/her own Hotel card. The Hotel card enables you to include all your restaurant and bar services into your room's overall bill, subject to a prior check of your name and surname. You can also use your card to pay at various points within the Hotel complex, without having to carry money with you. We charge HRK 50 for the lost key card. Internet Wireless internet access is free. To connect, simply enter your e-mail address and your country of residence. Guests can also use laptops for free. Simply contact the reception desk. You need to enter your email address and country to connect to the Wi-Fi network. Istralandia Waterpark A unique North-west Istria attraction, Aquapark Istralandia is an interesting water world spreading over a surface area measuring 81,000 m² and situated only five kilometres away from the hotel. For more information, contact our Camp concierge or look it up on www.istralandia.com. Laundry/ironing In your room there is a bag for dirty laundry, as well as a price-list of services. Please leave the bag with your laundry in a visible place and fill out the attached form. We will return your laundry within two days at the latest. We have 17 tennis courts, beach volleyball, mini golf, trampoline, Aqua Park, paintball range and 1 large football field with artificial grass with FIFA Quality PRO standards, 1 large with natural grass and one smaller with artificial grass. Apart from this, we also offer jet skis, banana rides, tubes, parasailing, boat hire, windsurfing, bicycle hire, bike tours, kayak hire and we also organise guided kayak tours on the River Mirna. Novigrad The town of Novigrad is situated on the north-west coast of the Istrian peninsula, 25 km away from the border with Slovenia. The nearby town centres of Poreč, Umag and Buje are 15 km away respectively. The area of today's Novigrad has been inhabited since antique times, which is witnessed by many monuments and archaeological localities. In written documents, Novigrad is mentioned as Neapolis in the 7th century, i.e. as Civitas Nova in the 9th century and, since the 12th century, in church sources, as Emona, Emonia and Aemonia. As an ancient residence of a diocese (since 5th/6th century until 1831) Novigrad bishops, as suffragans of the Aquilean /Gradeska archbishops, had jurisdiction over the territory which extended as far as the River Dragonja in the north and to the River Mirna in the south-east. Due to its position on a small island and its fertile natural inland areas, Novigrad was often found on the crossroads of rich historical events. The town experiences its renaissance between the 8th and 9th centuries, when, as a residence of the French prince John becomes a starting point for spreading feudalisation, thus joining the European cultural scene. Due to frequent wars and infectious diseases, the town goes through a period of stagnation in the period between 16th and 17th centuries, when it was almost deserted. Passing through the periods of the Byzantine (6th-7th century), French (8th-9th century), German (10th-12th century), Venetian (1270-1797), Napoleon (1805-1813), Austro-Hungarian (1814-1918) and Italian (1918-1943) administrations, the town was adjusting to the given situations. Each period was leaving behind its silent witnesses, which, today, make up the rich cultural heritage of the Novigrad area. It is still insufficiently explored and provides a rich source of future knowledge. TOWN WALLS Although Novigrad is a settlement with just over 4,000 inhabitants, today it holds, as was the case in the past, the status of a town. This is supported by the historical terminology which interprets, if we disassociate ourselves by a brief explanation, that a town is a place which is encircled by walls and which has an independent administration. Novigrad had both. The preserved manuscript "Statuto Municipale Decret:, Ter:, Sentenze, Sovrane Ducali, e Conseg: della città di Cittanova" from 1754 talks about it and it contains a copy of the Novigrad Statute from the year 1401 as a fundamental legal act which regulates the legislative life of a community and the entire legal procedure, as well as the jurisdiction. The statute witnesses the fact that, at the beginning of the 15th century, Novigrad had had the status of a town-commune. In the Statute, in several places Novigrad walls and the concern of the town authorities relating to their maintenance are also mentioned. The walls with toothed crowns were built in the course of mid-13th century. They were renovated during different periods. They were reinforced by round renaissance towers and, by the former main town gate there stands an older, square tower.

Since June 2005, Novigrad has been a member of the international association of walled towns - Walled Towns Friendship Circle (WTFC). The WTFC association was founded 16 years ago, with the aim to stimulate friendship among the residents of walled towns, promote tourism and support protection and preservation of the walls. BELVEDER The only loggia in Istria, is located by the sea. Most probably it was laid on an older defence wall (tower) structure. It is believed that it was built in the 16th century and it was renovated in the years 1860 and 1930. Next to the loggia, on the western side, there is a semi-circular passage Porta a marina, which leads to the sea. The arch construction of the passage carries the date of 1649 inscribed on the head stone, but it was installed there in the 19th century, transferred from the north-west part of the town during the landscaping of the town garden (Giardino pubblico). NOVIGRAD LAPIDARIUM The Lapidarium is a museum collection of 93 stones of monuments from the antique times and from the early and late Middle Ages, one of the most significant of that kind in Croatia. GALLERION – Our Austro-Hungarian navy A maritime collection dedicated to our ancestors' war navy. Garments and arms, paintings and models, photographs, maps, drawings and nautical instruments. ST. PELAGIJA and ST. MAKSIM PARISH CHURCH Today's three nave basilica (a cathedral until 1831) obtained its original shape during the Old-Christian period (5th-6th century), at the time of the founding of the Novigrad diocese. The traces of that period can be read on the north longitudinal wall of the basilica, where Old-Christian window frames were discovered in 1972. BELL TOWER The free-standing bell tower of the St. Pelagija and St. Maksim parish church was constructed in 1883, modelled on St, Marks bell tower in Venice. On the top of the bell-tower pyramid there is a statue of the town's patron, St. Pelagija, installed in 1913. The statue is made of wood and coated in bronze sheeting. During the summer months, the bell-tower is open to visitors and it is possible to climb to its top, from where a beautiful view unfolds of Novigrad and its surrounding area.

Aminess facilities use separators for waste oils and fats, green areas around the hotel are planted with local vegetation fertilised with pressed horse manure, and used fabric and furniture are donated to associations and institutions. Guests are also offered alternative modes of transport – bicycles for rent, which they can use to ride into town along the well-kept coastal promenade. Solar panels installed in the campsites mean an increase in the use of solar energy, and the campsites also systematically recycle waste.

For 15 years, the beaches at Aminess facilities have been flying Blue Flags, an international environmental, sea, and coastal protection programme whose main goal is the sustainable management of the sea and the coastal belt through ecological education and informing the public of the importance of protecting the sea and coastal belt. Mirna River delta – a special ornithological reserve Together with Tarski Cove (Tarska vala), the mouth of Mirna River covers an area of some 465 hectares, abounding in flora and fauna of which several-hundred bird species, and numerous amphibians, lizards and mammals are protected by law. The lagoons of the Mirna River delta and Tarski Cover are vital to the migration, overwintering and nesting of birds of water habitats. This is where the Dunlin, a Siberian nesting bird, stops over as it flies across Croatia during summer migration in flocks of about 30 specimens. This area is soon to become a special ornithological reserve, giving it the formal framework needed for providing protection not only to the wide diversity of birds of living there, but also to the wetlands, one of the few remaining in the Mediterranean.

In some aspects, the regime of special reserves is more stringent than even that of national parks. Regulations consistent with the environmental needs of protected nature areas will apply to the Mirna River delta – Tarski Cove area, soon to be the second special ornithological reserve in Istria. Mramornica Cave - a karst beauty When passing through Brtonigla don't miss the opportunity to visit Mramornica cave, considered by many speleologists to be one of Istria's largest and loveliest subterranean structures. Mramornica Cave was first mentioned in the writings of travel writer Albert Fortis in 1770. Today, it is open to both the young and the old seeking for adventure. From the very entrance of the cave, a steep stairway leads down to a large chamber filled with dripstone formations of different colours and huge stalagmites some 13 metres tall and up to 10 metres wide. The trails leading through the cave are well-maintained and equipped with safety railings from which you can peer into the cave’s mysterious but inaccessible parts that reach down to inconceivable depths. To find your way to Mramornica Cave, just follow the signs leading to the Sterle agritourism farm where the cave is located. Nature lovers will enjoy the refreshing chill of the cave’s underground chambers, and the whole family can take pleasure in the various activities offered at the Sterle farm. Bats – a part of the world’s eco-system In addition to land crabs, several specimens of the bat species Myotis myotis roost in Mramornica Cave. Bats form a part of the global eco-system. In the Umag and Brtonigla region with its favourable climate and terrain, bats pollinate numerous nocturnal plants. These small, secretive animals have a great impact on the numbers of active nocturnal insect populations, a confirmation of their role in helping to maintain balance in nature. The greater the number of bats in a given area, the higher is the area’s health index. Although bats have eyes and fairly good eyesight, they use echolocation to navigate in the dark. Bats emit ultrasounds through their mouths and noses, and listen to the returning echoes, which enable them to tell where buildings, trees and other obstacles are located. This system allows bats to perceive and create a very detailed image of their surroundings. Mramornica Cave in Istria is known as a roosting place for these useful nocturnal animals, which also live in forests, feeding on spiders and a variety of insects.

Nature Park Škarline To residents of the area, Nature Park Škarline is an inseparable part of local identity and holds an indelible place in the collective mind. Visitors to the area sometimes fail to discover this perfectly preserved nature park located only two kilometres from Brtonigla and named Škarline after the stream that springs in the park. Along its course to Mirna River, several kilometres to the south, the stream has created a luscious, green canyon, one of a kind in Istria. A two-kilometre macadam track leads from the village of Nova Vas, near Brtonigla, along the edges of vineyards to the nature park. In dry weather, the nature park can be reached by car. To find out how to reach the park directly from Brtonigla, contact the local tourist office. The canyon is not immediately visible from the park entrance. First, you will encounter a tame, spacious landscape with meadows, two small lakes and a bridge. Several benches and a tap for potable water make this picture-perfect area a great spot for a picnic, and fun and games. To hike through the green canyon and follow the stream to where it flows into Mirna River, cross the bridge and carefully climb down the steep sides leading from the small lake. If uncertain which direction to take, just follow the gurgling sound of the stream. Once inside the canyon, you will enter into a new world with a cascade and a pristine watercourse meandering for several kilometres towards Mirna River through thick, shady woodland. The freshness of the air will catch you by surprise. The villagers of Brtonigla say that Nature Park Škarline is an ideal haven against the summer heat. Nature Park Škarline excites the imagination. No one looking for adventure or an invigorating hike will be able to resist following the stream’s course to Istria’s largest river. It would be wise to bring food and beverages with you on this journey through the lush and uncharted regions of green Istria. Giants of Motovun Forest The luscious Motovun Forest tickles the imagination not only because of its soil in which the peculiar association of truffles and the roots of proud oaks takes place. The forest is also linked to tales of Veli Jože, an Istrian giant that legend says lived near Motovun. The legend inspired the Croatian writer Vladimir Nazor to write a story entitled Veli Jože. In one of the story’s episodes, the giants use the forest’s oak trees as brooms to sweep away the enemy in a battle against knights and their army. Throughout history, many special laws were written, and committees founded, to ensure protection for Motovun Forest. The Venetian Republic built canals to regulate water supply to the forest, whose massive trees were used to build many Venetian palaces. Motovun Forest is a remnant of native lowland forests called longoze. These are ecosystems of hardwood, deciduous forests that emerged from the soil of river valleys and plains of the Mediterranean littoral deposited by rivers flowing to the sea.

In the past, longoze could also be found in the Neretva valley of Croatia, and in the Po and Rhone valleys. Today, however, they have been preserved in only two places in Europe other than Istria – the Black Sea and Skadarsko Lake. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that Motovun Forest is an extraordinary cultural and historical monument, an inspiration to artists and gourmets, and a favourite site of lovers of nature and outdoors activities. Motovun Forest is home to a very rare species of brown frog and a large number of plant species, one of which is the very rare Italian clematis (Clematis viticella). Known as trtor in Istria, it is easy to recognise by its lovely violet blossoms.

Rules for swimming pool use

Before entering the pool area, each guest is required to take a shower and disinfect their

feet.

Persons suffering from skin or contagious diseases or who have open wounds are not

permitted to use the pool.

Access to the swimming pool area is permitted only in bathing costumes.

Persons with long hair are required to tie their hair up when using the pool.

Non-swimmers are not permitted to use the pool.

Smoking or food and drink consumption are not allowed in the pool area.

Persons under the influence of alcohol are not allowed in the pool area.

Glass or easily breakable items must not be brought to the pool area.

Running around the pool, jumping into the water or use of balls or similar equipment are

not allowed, except with the prior permission of pool staff.

Children up to the age of 10 must be accompanied by a responsible adult when entering the

pool area and must wear swimming costumes in the pool area and when using the pool.

It is forbidden to bring pets to the swimming pool area.

Guests who fail to comply with these rules will be asked to leave the swimming pool area.

The Hotel management will not be responsible for lost or damaged money, other valuables

or personal property.

House rules Dear guests, In order for your stay in our Hotel to be as pleasant as possible, we would kindly ask you to observe

the Hotel house rules:

You can deposit your money and valuables for safe keeping at reception, with written

receipt, failing which the Hotel will not be responsible for their loss.

While leaving your room please lock the balcony door and the room.

Visits are not allowed in the rooms, except with prior permission of the Hotel reception.

Bringing flammable, explosive or similar materials into the Hotel is not permitted.

Use of household appliances in the rooms is not permitted. As our voltage is 220 V, we would

kindly ask you to adapt your personal electrical equipment to that standard.

Please take care of hotel property. Items deliberately damaged will be charged for.

Costs for use of mini bar will be calculated according to the price list in the room. The bill will

be payable at reception.

Children younger than 10 years of age are not allowed to use the elevator without the

presence of an adult.

Smoking is not allowed in the rooms, restaurant, and public spaces in the hotel.

Pets are not allowed.

Please do not take towels outside the room.

Please do not take food outside the restaurant.

Please personally sign your invoices for any kind of hotel service.

It is considered that guests are acquainted with the House rules upon taking over the room

allocated for their accommodation.

In the event of failure to observe the House rules we reserve the right to cancel your

accommodation, charging the full price of the booked service.
