What do e-Portfolios represent?

“e-Portfolios focus on growth & development over time; they can be seen as concrete representations of critical thinking & reflection of skills & achievements;

implemented through the selection of evidence for goal setting and self evaluation..”

(Barrett, 1999, 2000)

1. What does the pile of file folders suggest to you about assessment? About the learners? 2. What role does the learner play?3. Who were the folders shared with?

Page 6: Welcome to -. An e-Portfolio is: An information management system that uses electronic media. (WORD/ web authoring platform/PPT) Learner builds/maintains.

Who can we share the e-Portfolio with? What are we assessing? What is the purpose?

• 4. What does the diagram to the right suggest to you about a learner centered approach?

• 5. How can these be shared?  What is now being shared with-in a digitized format?

Technology enables students to collect & organize more effectively.

• Through the use of technology, learners can use tools to record their progress over time.

• "A culture of evidence asks learners to think more deeply about learning to show what they have learned rather than simply choose an answer from a list of multiple choice options.” (Barrett)

facilitators, colleagues & advisors;3. Identify learning experiences that will help reach

their goals;4. Demonstrate what they know & can do;5. Learn to use, a progressive tool which will be

carried forward from year-to-year to recognize vital pieces of their personal, academic & career development process; plus

2. Provide a convenient way to collect and sort information that helps learners think about where they want to go;

3. Demonstrate, that the outcomes stated in the CCLDP Learning Program & University outcomes are being met;

4. Increase learner motivation & engagement by connecting learning, to the participants' personal interests & accomplishments; then,

Define the Need:

• This is the most important part of the process.

• This is where you would define the difference between what is really happening (is) & what you wish would be happening (should).

Page 15: Welcome to -. An e-Portfolio is: An information management system that uses electronic media. (WORD/ web authoring platform/PPT) Learner builds/maintains.

Performance: Should / Is

Should:• 100% complete an e-

Portfolio;• Each learner has

“artifacts” for the 3 categories;

• 100% goals met as set out by learner/facilitator;

• Receive credit for completing an e-Portfolio

Is:

What is happening in your program?
