Q&A with BYRNEBYRNE answers questions about his life, experiences, and good memories

Which words describe your personality? Clever, amusing, logical, ambitious, exciting, creative, honest, optimistic, energetic, cultured, dominant, intellectual, earnest, open-minded.

Describe your strong sides: I have always been very goal-oriented. I try my best to perse-vere and to maintain a positive attitude. I have an excellent sense of humor, and I always try to make people around me feel good. I am an avid reader and I have a sharp memory, which has helped me greatly in school and work. I have com-peted at the national level in spelling and knowledge bowl competitions, and I am great with trivia. I have also held vari-ous leadership positions in both high school and university extra-curricular organizations. Though I can sometimes seem quirky, I tend to become the alpha male of any groups, and I have been told that I am very likable. I am an excellent public speaker, and I am gifted with words. I also handle stress well and stay cool under pressure. I try to learn one new fact or skill each day.

Describe your weak sides: I tend to have a high respect for the fun things in life, so I can sometimes get distracted by stopping to “smell the roses.” I am creative, and as such, I often keep my space messy. I am sometimes tardy and can have trouble taking some things seriously enough. I can also be impatient with people I deem illogical or overly emotional, and people can often tell if I don’t like them.

Which countries have you visited:United States, Canada, Bahamas, Peru, Italy, Germany, Po-land, Czech Republic, Netherlands.

Describe the best holiday you have had: I took a trip to Italy with my aunt. I really liked Italy. I learned so much and got to see great historical monuments. I had some memorable experiences and it was very beautiful.

What do you like the most about your own country:I really like the United States. Despite the incredibly negative picture our media creates, I feel very happy here. I am free to do just about anything I want. I can go anywhere and I can follow my heart’s desires, with the only limitation being money. As long as I work and make enough money, I can follow my dreams and make myself happy. I also love the individualism of the United States. We celebrate being your own person and being free to represent yourself. I also love the inventions of our nation, from Silicon Valley and beyond! Technology is a great thing. Plus, we have a wide variety of delicious food to choose from!

Who are your idols/heroes/heroines? I have great respect for people who serve their nation in the armed forces. They sacrifice and risk so much to keep other people safe. I also recognize teachers, who educate people and spread knowledge. In addition, I respect and honor doc-tors, who use their highly intelligent minds to save and prolong the lives of others. I have respect for anyone who speaks the truth publicly, even if their words will be unpopular. That is a true hero.

What are your goals in life? My main goal is that I live a happy life and gain as much knowledge and experience as possible. I love to travel and see new places and try new things. I would also love to create world peace (though that goal is admittedly a bit difficult). As far as a career, I would like to potentially start my own busi-ness and make a good living. I also want to make my family happy and proud.

What were your childhood dreams:Like all children, I wanted to be a firefighter and an actor, re-spectively at different points. Oddly enough, I have always harbored an affinity for maps and globes. I even learned (and still know) the capital city of every nation! I went through a pe-riod in which I wanted to be the leader of the world. I thought it would be fun, and I could visit every country whenever I wanted. It became a running joke through my life that I wanted to own the world!

Which values do you rank the highest?Integrity, honesty, loyalty, humility, humor, perseverance, log-ic, kindness.

Which childhood experience made the biggest impres-sion on you? When I was younger I worked in the countryside. I learned a great work ethic and how to keep things well maintained.

Which was your greatest experience or moment? My greatest time was when I visited California with my family.

Happiest: My happiest moment was when I graduated from college.

Funniest: I was performing a musical event on stage, and the stage was slippery. In front of approximately 1,000 people, I slipped and fell, knocking over tons of people and eventually falling off the stage. While it was humiliating, I can’t help but laugh about it now. No one was hurt, and it wasn’t a serious act anyway.

Scariest: When I was younger, tornadoes would routinely fall and pass near our house. The house would shake and windows would break. The sirens would wail, but over them I could hear the sound of the storm, like a thunderous train tearing through the countryside. Everyone would get down, hold their breath, and hope that our house was not the one to be struck.

Proudest: I was one of the founders of a Greek-letter fraternity while at my university. When we started, we were a group of ragtag college kids who had no idea what we were doing. Nobody would help us and people looked down on us, claiming we could never become a legitimate organization. Recently, that chapter was the best chapter of the entire fraternal international organization. They are also the best chapter at the university now. I have the honor to say I helped start and lead the organization to its current great standing, despite our meager beginnings.

Most dangerous: I was visiting with my friends and the apart-ment we were in was invaded by armed thieves. They held us up and terrorized us, threatening death. Luckily, no one was harmed. I lived in a rough city for a while and got held up, had my car broken into, and saw gunshot victims. It was a rough place.

Greatest sorrow: My greatest sorrow was finding my father deceased. Finding a dead loved one is never easy, and this really broke my heart. I still miss him, as we were good friends. I think of him all the time.

What is your favorite color? I like the color blue. It isn’t presumptuous or arrogant like so many other colors. It’s very pretty. It is the color or the sky and of the ocean. Some people claim it’s somber or melancholy, but I feel that is an unfair description. Blue is calming to me.

What is your favorite animal? My favorite animal is probably the hippopotamus. The hippo is big and silly and, despite its giant man-crunching jaws and huge form, is an herbivore. Greater apex predators and carni-vores have to respect the hippo and are rarely able to take a hippo down. That seems pretty awesome to me.

What is your favorite kind of food? I love all food! I have an eclectic sense of taste. I can eat a lot, I am not picky at all, and I really do love all kinds of cuisine. Pasta, pizza, tacos, I really can’t pick a favorite food. There are too many good options!

What is your favorite kind of music: I like conventional American pop music. I love the sound of today’s pop, which tends to be fun and upbeat.

What is your favorite kind of car: I like convertibles. I drove a Ford Mustang when I was young and I miss it!

What is your favorite kind of pet: I really want a pet panda dog. Technically, it’s a Chow Chow dog that has animal-friendly dye to look like a panda. Seri-ously, that’s a cuteness overload!

What is your favorite time of year: I like Spring time. The winter is finally ending and outdoor life “springs” alive again! It’s warm every day, the sun is out with only occasional rains, and it means summer is coming.

What is your favorite book and/or author:I love the “Harry Potter” series by J. K. Rowling. I think it is impeccably crafted, and Rowling really knows how to please her fans. This may be a common answer, but Hogwarts truly is where my heart is!

What is your favorite movie and/or director: I enjoy “Jurassic Park,” directed by the renowned American director Steven Spielberg. He really makes an exciting film. Plus, dinosaurs are always a good topic.
