#14 SERMON NOTE 2013: The theme—‘THE HIGH PRIEST’

“I will go My Father and your Father”

(John 20:17) “Jesus said to her, Do not put your hand on me, for I have not gone up to the Father: but go to my brothers and say to them, I go up to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God” (v. 17 Bible in Basic English)

1. Consider the APOSTLE and the HIGH PRIEST of our _______________________, Jesus Christ. (Hebrews 3:1)

2. CONFESSION means ‘you say the same thing as God said’.

Notice: The angels say unto Mary Magdalene, “Woman, why you weep?” is the same as Jesus said, “Woman, why you weep?” (John 20:13, 15)

Notice: Jesus said to her, “…I go to My Father, and your Father; and to My God, and your God.” (John 20:17) is the same as Ruth said to Naomi, “Don’t argue me to leave you, or to return from following after you: for whether you go, I go; and where you stay, I stay: your people shall be my people, and your God shall be my God.”

3. Jesus said to her, “Touch Me not”. Other words: “Do not hold on to Me” (NIV), “Do not put your hand on Me” (BBE), “Do not cling to Me” (ESV)

Why Jesus did said to her, “Touch Me not”? What does it means to you? Examine the Scriptures:

Psalms 105:15—“Saying, ‘Touch not Mine ___________________, and do My prophets no harm.”

YES NO NOT SURE: Jesus is God’s anointed one?

YES NO NOT SURE: Jesus is God’s prophet?

Hebrews 7:26—Jesus Christ, the HIGH PRIEST who is _____________________________________________ _____________________________________________ _____________________________________________

Jesus first called her, ‘Woman’. This ‘woman’ represents who? ______________________________

Jesus then called her ‘Mary’. This ‘Mary’ means ____________________________________ (Ruth 1:20)

Leviticus 21:1 NCV—The Lord spoke to Moses, “Tell the priests, Aaron’s sons: None of you should become unclean by touching one of your relatives who has died.”

YES NO NOT SURE: Is this ‘woman-Mary’ a spiritually dead person?

4. Understanding the differences between the Lamb of God and the High Priest: Today: we focus on first part is LAMB:

Two important verses: Ephesians 1:14 NIRV: The Spirit marks us as God’s own. We

can now be sure that someday we will receive all that God has promised. That will happened after God sets all of His people completely free [redemption]. All of those things will bring praise to His glory.

Ephesians 4:30 CJB: …for God has stamped you as His property until the day of final redemption.

Abraham said to his son Isaac, “God will provide Himself a lamb for a burnt offering.” (Genesis 22:8)

The Lord God did make coats of skins unto Adam and to his wife, and clothed them. (Genesis 3:21)

“All we like sheep have gone astray: we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord has laid on Him (a lamb) the iniquity [means ‘to bend’] of us all.” (Isaiah 53:6)

The person must put his hand on the animal’s head and kill it at the entrance to the Tabernacle. Then Aaron’s sons, the priests, must sprinkle the blood on all sides of the altar. (Leviticus 3:2 NCV)

This happened so that what Isaiah the prophet said would be fulfilled: He is the One who took our illnesses and carry away our diseases. (Matthew 8:17 CEB)

Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by His own blood, He entered in once into the holy place, having obtained (get) _________________ redemption for us. (Hebrews 9:12 KJV)

5. Hebrews 9:20 KJV: “Saying, This is the blood of the testament which God has ________________ you.” The Greek word ‘en’ means ‘in’, and ‘join’ means ‘to fulfill’.
